I always used to shot on the Switch. Got one recently cheap from a friend who upgraded to a OLED.
I really underestimated how good it is and comfy it is just taking it from room to room and such.
DQ11 is almost a different game now the convenience of not having to be tied down to a tv.

It's not too small like older portable consoles, but not too big that it's uncomfortable either (for me). I love playing games handheld, but not outside; I prefer playing it in the comfort of my own home. The Switch is perfect for this and I love it.
Switch is to gaming what Tablets are to PC's when it comes to browsing the internet / watching video's and such. Gaming with picrel feel.
Switch Lite is closer to a traditional handheld but I still feel you need a bag to carry it.

Makes sense, most the PS5's library is graphical updates for PS4 games, which you can buy for like $30 a pop.
I don't think everything needs to be high fidelity visuals, but I do think games should take the target hardware into consideration. In the case of Xenoblade specifically it very much seems like a game designed for a console of higher power than the Switch actually is, there are details in the game design that vanish because of the low performance.
They made a game that looks too good for the target hardware and it's painfully obvious to anyone who has played it. I think if you're making a game for a weak system, you ought to make sure the game visuals are low enough fidelity to satisfy the hardware, and make up for the low fidelity through other means.
The Switch for example, in my opinion, is an excellent platform for 2D games, or games with simple, low poly graphics.
It's the mismatch that I notice the most, when developers don't seem to take the hardware into consideration when designing their games.

Neither has a library of games worth the expenditure over just buying the multiplat games on PC. The Switch wins by virtue of being affordable, having a load of exclusives, and having a hardware gimmick that can't easily be duplicated. If you own a previous-gen console, especially if it's a PS4, there's currently absolutely no reason to shell out for current-gen successors.

But clearly, I underestimate the Nintendo fanbase from previous generations. Having some the most famous game franchises as exclusive is a huge incentive. But then, how come the Wii U was a failure? Were the titles just bad or was it the console itself?

Regular old handhelds were getting pushed out by phones, but the gap between phones and chunkier laptops that you can actually run games on is pretty wide, and apparently a tablet sized console is "just right" for a whole lot more people than previously thought, if the crazy sales of the switch, deck, and assorted company are to be believed.
