I expected Helldivers 2 to be good, but not "unforeseeable appeal that knocks out back-end servers and leaves players in a weeks-long login purgatory" good—similar to how I couldn't imagine Baldur's Gate 3 consuming the entire gaming consciousness for the tail end of last year.

Helldivers 2 is the most undercooked game i have ever been tricked into buying. It’s a buggy, crashy mess. A few weeks ago, they pushed an update that caused EVERY mission to crash. They said “we’ll fix it some time next week” and the game remained unplayable for 6 days.
It baffles me that people are heralding the game as a “triumph of indie gaming” even though it’s published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and requires players to be unpaid alpha testers.

It doesn't even have inter party interactions with dialogue and interactions with what the main character is interacting with, unlike Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect and even SWOTR yes the MMO.
