DMC2 Dante pretty much isn't Dante. Even his design doesn't fit with the ones in DMC1, 3, 4 and 5.

I almost agree, I don't really like 4s design for Dante, but I do think it's better than 3s. I'd do something like 1>5>2>4>3 or 1>5>4>2>3 I don't know.
Honestly wish they made that design the standard going forward.

For its time it was cool, matrix early auts trench coats and the like. It had its time. Dante coming back as an old uncle makes sense for the progression of his character. He's not the young edge lord he used to be. He got his revenge, he found all the answers to his past, reconciled with his brother and obtained all the power he could ever want, the edgy phase is over.
