Assuming this isn't bait, you're limiting yourself extremely to genres. Like listening exclusively to metal or rap, except those two are genres that stand on their own while soundtracks necessarily are tied to other products. Even worse, its most likely that said background music is nothing more than just surface level takes on whatever genre they invoke because their nature is mood setting for another piece of media. Its just lounge music but tied to weeb shit (much worse), and you're telling you listen to that exclusively? I mean liking some of it is fine, and there are exceptions to this, but they aren't the rule.
video game music is great but it always loops after like 1 minute which really limits it
Honestly video game, show (including anime), and movie OSTs are varied enough that it doesn't HAVE to be an issue. Realistically most people only like particular genres of games/shows/movies so they end up with extremely narrow music tastes, but in theory you could have a broad music palette from those sources exclusively. Expand your horizons but pay no mind to the pretentious doofuses in this thread that insist you're not "properly engaging with music" (absolute weeny shit)

Idk to me there's something appealing about the creative challenge of making music that hooks people quick and conveys the story in a compact way. It often has some decent complexity to it and the constraints make it a creative playground for the good composers. If it's the ONLY thing you listen to, then yeah, that's picky listening and pathetic the same way picky eating is, but you're being a bit close-minded imo
most of those constraints are because they need to fit neatly within a level, which is another factor as to why it isn't music. it is required to be in tandem with the area that the player is in.

Look I'm one of those big bad autistic people that listen to anime music. Ok? So what? I dont "get" music. Its just noise to me. It doesnt make me feel anything, the anime does, and the music is part of the scene to me. My favorite music album is the soundtrack to my favorite series Nichijou. I love the Kon girls but I dont understnad the music parts. Ijust like the cute girls. I also like the music in the show Fruits Basket. I love Tohru and her friends!
But I tried one day to be come more "cultured" because my friends and my mom said I should get more hobbies and broaden my horizons. So I came here to learn about music. Made a little trip to the music board over a few months and tried your classics. I dont understand it. How people just listen to music without a visual or doing something else. With just the music there isnt anything there to grab on to. I dont get it. I listened to the Beatles and it sounded so silly to me.

2. autistic person here, it can be difficult to visualize music sometimes. I have a hard time understanding some concept albums and it gets difficult to get into an album. But it really just takes time. Like with anime, it takes a while to get into a show. You know the three episode rule? think of it like that. you gotta give the album a couple of listens and see if it clicks? it doesn't? then move to something else.
