i'm convinced that most of them only think the games are these super hardcore masterpieces because they either stupidly rush into traps and encounters like it's fricking skyrim or they watched their favorite youtuber or streamer play them.
It is because the younger Souls fans grew up playing movie games on the 7th gen consoles so the concept of a video game being a challenge to the player was mindblowing.
i mean most people who were high school age (or going into HS) by the time demon souls came out would've still grown up on 6th gen gaming and would've been aware of RPG mainstays as many of those franchises still had fairly recent games out at that time.
also it's not like we didn't have games like the souls series in 7th gen either. hell, CRPGs went through a revival period near the end of 7th gen.

I've beaten all of them except 4, and I've also beaten the first shadow tower. Why is it so hard to understand that some people just like niche stuff? I've never seen a game with as many secrets as KF2, and something about the runescape tier lowpoly graphics and haunting atmosphere combined with the complete sincerity of the storyline is comfy as frick. KF isn't really similar to Souls at all, either. Souls is based on fighting and big bosses. KF is based on exploration.
