Literally every update to every game that someone puts on itch.io gets added the dats on a daily basis now. You could shit out some crappy NES tech demo in an hour and it will get added to the official NES dat tomorrow. There's 6362 roms in just that dat right now.

I don't mind this for NES, Master System, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear... I mean, it's a small file size anyways, so it's barely noticeable.

Having a complete Master System ROM set is so comfortable, such an underrated console... even today and especially here on /vr/, it's was stellar.

There's no way to even filter out prototypes and betas if you want to download the entire dat set. Their website only lets you do that on individual dats so you would have to tediously go through each system one by one and nobody has the time for that.

For the last time for you morons, it's a preservation project, not Random homosexual's All Killer No Filler Romset. Their job is to dump everything possible, not find excuses to exclude things from the database.
So why aren't they adding translation patches or romhacks? Many of them are nearly contemporaneous with the original game.
Retroplay does rom translations so that project already exists.
Romhacks might be too much but ideally there should be some kind of standard for them, considering that it's not uncommon for some romhacks to use rare or no longer common roms as their base, making patching them yourself more difficult and potentially resulting in bad patch jobs. I would support a "retroplay but for romhacks."

Their job is to dump and database original games and revisions, not modifications. No-intro's entire point of existence was to get rid of modified copies of rom dumps, not archive them. Goodtools is for all the hacks and trainers and other modified copies.
Homebrew releases aren't physical roms though. Their mission was always limited to only dumping what existed in a physical rom chip somewhere. Now they've even added floppy disks and flux images, which is particularly moronic because the latter is an analog capture of something that isn't even going to be the same if you capture it twice in a row on the same exact floppy disk.
