This Emulator is actually really good!

I don't understand the meme about it being shit. Every PS2 game I throw at it works flawlessly with very minor glitches which is expected from emulation. What's the deal guys?

That's what people who "emulate" are doing: they take a 4k screenshot of some Mario game running on xbox series x and then post it on R-eddit and write something stupid comment like "This is so MINT and runs PERFECTLY" just to get more upvotes. In reality these are morons who have no idea what they are doing and if they actually played the same games (on that platform) they'd know it doesn't even run that well.
Most people who emulate don't have any fricking clue what they are doing. This is one of the reasons why people call a software "shit" or "bad"...
The biggest issue with the PCSX2 is the dev and how nasty he is irl and the second issue is there are no alternative emulators.

If you're using the nightly builds, it's getting into a pretty good state now. The past couple of years have really cleaned up quite a few of the major issues that plagued the emulator. It got a bad reputation because it was so terrible for so long.

Granted, things still have a lot of problems depending on the specific game. Fatal Frame 1 is a great example, where ghosts don't render properly in hardware, and the game locks up on the final boss if you look in a specific direction. It's still got a long way to go in some places.

Define mid tier build. I have a i5 6600 and GTX 970 and it runs the games I care about (Armored Core, Dragon's Crown, Demon's Souls) reasonably well. I say reasonably because I don't know if Demon's Souls can actually run any better.

99% of the problems don't even need software mode to fix. And the reason software mode isn't advised isn't because of the resolution but because of the performance cost. It's extremely demanding on your hardware in most cases.

actual non-troll answer: because for fricking YEARS the PCSX2 homepage only showed you the "stable" version of the emulator, which was years out of date and well before the devs got their asses in gear and made it actually worth using, and hid away the actually good "development" version behind a menu that no mexican idiot trying to emulate king of fighters would have ever found. therefore it got this reputation as a shitty emulator when in fact the website itself was hilariously shit for its entire lifespan.
same shit happened with Dolphin until they updated their website with the "beta" versions
