it was ahead of its time and still is
It was just a shit version of morrowind which was released first and on xbox but not overhyped and oversimplified for normies
it really isn't anything like morrowind. you're comparing two pretty distinct games trying to do different stuff. they're just both wrpgs.
No at the time these were the only two types of those "open world rpgs" for console and fable sucked then and sucks now
It was the ultimate dumbed down consumer easy mode normie open world rpg with overpromised under delivered features
fable is not an open world game. like at all. i was never lead to believe it was either iirc.
>can go anywhere when you want once you visit the places
>open world
The actual combat and difficulty of both Fable and Morrowind are both braindead so I'm not sure why you're bothering to speak as if that is the only metric to measure the quality of the gameplay.
If I didn't want to play a dumbed down easy mode normie open world rpg, I certainly wouldn't play Morrowind.
I appreciate the humor of
>overpromised under delivered features
though since we all have the context of those pre 2000s Todd Howard posts hyping up Elder Scrolls.
Yeah this is during the time period focusing on the og xbox only you moron of course you wouldn't now
The original post was that fable was ahead of its time and it wasn't even close to morrowind its closest competitor
We got some really moronic OP here who didn't even play the topic subject
Shortly after this game was announced, I read an interview in some gaming magazine about it. It was with the two brothers who were designing it. They talked about how you would have to manage your backpack, how you could cram it full of loot but if you crammed it too full things might fall out. They talked about how you'd be able to plant trees and they'd grow as you progressed in the game. They talked about how you could own a business and sabotage your competitors by smashing his goods shipments. I was blown away and became obsessed. I practically lived on the gamefaqs Fable forum after that. I constantly checked for news, couldn't wait to hear the official release date. It was gonna be the greatest game ever made, I just knew it. I pre-ordered it as soon as fricking possible. Then when it finally released... well, suffice it to say I have not pre-ordered a single game since.l, and suspect I never will again.
did you ever finish it? its graphics, gameplay and story are super boring thank god im playing it on gaypass not sure if i can stomach it
that is a pasta
How dare you? That's an actual original account of my moronic history with this game and you have the nerve to pull "that's a pasta" out of your ass, knowing full well you've never seen it before. You absolute knave.
Then youre a moronic zoomer
Yes, I did finish it. I felt obligated for obvious reasons. It's not a bad game. It's so-so. But so-so was a colossal disappointment to me after how much I had hyped it up in my mind. It did very little in the way of innovation, and what innovations it did contain were not very fun or interesting.
god I hate it when "what the devs want to do" ends up being a far cry from what the game ends up being
>didn't know about any of this shit
>it's one of my favorite games till this day
You are one of the lucky ones, anon. We could all learn a valuable lesson from your example.
Had the exact same experience, except they started releasing some red flag statements before it came out. Like they said if you were evil a boulder might fall on your house and kill your family, or that it might have multiplayer but the other player would be some will-o-wisp thing. All the news coming before the actual release was so awful and confusing that the game was already dead to me before it came out. Ended up liking it for what it was, but that whole experience led me to becoming the bitter cynical man I am today. Now I just have fun watching the innocent and ignorant get hyped and then crushed over shit like No Mans Sky or Cyberpunk not knowing that game devs will literally tell you any lie to sell a game.
Fable or not, people need to learn that having expectations for anything is moronic and is of zero benefit. Enjoy what games are already out instead of fixating on something that does not yet exist. When the game comes out, you can only be pleasantly surprised where expectations are either disappointed or met without contributing anything for having had them.
I simply see no upside to getting 'hyped' about anything when you can be just as happy, if not more, ignoring a game until it comes out and either enjoying it, or it being bad but having no expectations to be let down.
How do you ignore a game until it comes out
Do you live in a cave in the mountains or something
Frick catching a train to work you're gonna browse something on your phone and read about an upcoming game you're looking forward to
I'm aware that an upcoming game exists, obviously, but I have plenty of things to do in my spare time rather than read moronic articles trying to sell something that isn't finished.
If I'm on the train, I have plenty of other things I can read or watch such as, for example, threads on Ganker that almost certainly aren't discussing video games.
>read about an upcoming game
Why would I do that. It's not out yet so it's just marketing bullshit.
> It was with the two brothers who were designing it
wasn't it just liar peter molineux?
it's incredible, EVERY game he designs he talks all this shit about what it's gonna be and then it comes out and it's nothing like the promises, see GODUS another one of his lies
Got some rage comics to go with that? xD
>They talked about how you would have to manage your backpack, how you could cram it full of loot but if you crammed it too full things might fall out. How are any of things fun in an action game? I swear you idiots are more obsessed with stupid novelties and gimmicks than you are actually playing a game
It has fantastic boxart.
This. I enjoy the game well enough, it does have charm underneath its flaws. But the boxart is probably one of my all time favorites.
Bullfrog must've had some some kind of leash on Molyneux. Black & White was the first hype bullshit I bought into and that was a complete disappointment. Then Fable seemed like it'd be everything I'd ever wanted from an RPG, so I once again fell into the hype rabbit hole and wouldn't you know, history repeated itself.
Because back then children played it, who had no idea about the lies Peter Molyneux came up with. And it's a comfy, mediocre RPG, which is easy and fun to play through. Better than the two sequels, which simplified the combat mechanics and made it completely boring.
Peter Molyneux had nothing to do with the success of these games. It's people you never heard of, who actually worked on the game itself, doing their job in the background. The more freedom and agency Peter Molyneux is given with his games, the more moronic, unfinished and bad the product gets.
See Godus, which is worse than Popolous, despite that game already being multiple decades old at his point and Peter Molyneux having full creative freedom.
>Because back then children played it, who had no idea about the lies Peter Molyneux came up with. And it's a comfy, mediocre RPG, which is easy and fun to play through. Better than the two sequels, which simplified the combat mechanics and made it completely boring.
Nailed it. It's nostalgia from dummies who played it as kids. It was also an action RPG on console so a relative rarity at the time
hero bellybutton and tummy boxart
I respect Fable for annoying me enough as a kid I discovered Morrowind via console.
fable 1 and 2 are good video games. 3 is an abomination that killed the series it was so bad. 3 at that point was the most disappointed i had ever been at a video game.
I completely agree anon. 3 was horrible
>still no way to play fable 2 on pc
it hurts.
>Everything is broken meaning you cannot frick up character building
>spells are actually different and interesting in all being different flavors of frick up everything
>because everything is capable of wrecking face, you can build your character however you want and early game building your character around a theme and choosing spells that compliment that theme is fun
>the game altogether has plenty of fun shit to find and collect
>great soundtrack, good aesthetic (the graphics are ugly but the style is pleasant) and lots of small things like npcs lines, emotes, kicking heads around, makes the world feel comfy
>short and doesn't overstay its welcome
It's not amazing by any stretch but it still has good gameplay and is short enough with good character variety that it's easy to pick up and playthrough every now and again without feeling stale.
It was one of my first RPG and I really liked it. At least you can't deny it's pretty kino
cool ideas but the combat is crap. absolutely brainless garbage kiddy shit.
Almost any action rpg had shitty combat back then tbh. The only one salvageable I can think is gothic.
about as brainless as any of the Souls games, KH, and really 90% of games.
It's not like the combat needs to be difficult for the overall gameplay to be enjoyable.
i had a lot of fun the 3 times i played it
agree its fricking trash. its like Spore in terms of what it actually is vs what (not moronic) people expected. was a huge let down for me.
>in terms of what it actually is vs what (not moronic) people expected. was a huge let down for me.
So you're saying only morons didn't believe what they were hyping it up to be? Either way, hype is for morons.
>2004 was 19 years ago
i kill u moron Black person
You can marry your sister
no you cant lying Black person
Everybody laugh at OP for being a Chicken Chaser.
Something about being good or evil
I never had the game myself so I could only play it on my friend's Xbox, but I remember it blew my mind when I noticed that the character had started to grow little horns after being evil for some time.
Babbys first "RPG". That's all there is to it. Kinda like Halo was babbys first FPS.
It was so bad, Fable 2 was also shit. These two games were the worst fable games in the series
It wasn't until they made Fable 3 that they got their shit together and created a solid 10/10 game.
I recommend getting Fable 3.
It’s disappointing but it has its charm
If you’re able to separate all the hype and lies surrounding the game from the game itself it’s okay
The answer begins with, n and no, before you get too excited; it isn't Black folk.
>Fable 2 still not on PC
>Xenia can barely emulate it
You're not missing anything
But I am missing Fable 2 on PC.
Yeah that's what I said. You're not missing anything.
>Fable 2 is not on PC
>therefore it's missing from the PC library of games
I wasn't talking about the quality of experience, merely its lack of presence.
Can't you play as a girl in 2? I don't want to stare at a dude's ass for 30 hours, I'm not gay.
You're worse - you're a troony
Fable 2 is the best one of the trilogy, pleb.
No, that would be Fable 1 and even then that's an extremely low bar.
>fable 2
>better in any way besides graphics
frick off you moronic homosexual.
Already runs at 60 fps. Google search before posting newbie
It still crashes often, homosexual. Hence my saying Xenia can barely run it. Why would I give a shit about an emulated version which works poorly instead of a native version that can at least be fixed by fans if not the devs of the port?
I used to play this game all the time and only now i notice the demon reflection in the water
Still annoyed that Fable 2 isn't on pc
This is the video that made this game Popular
No
this is
I miss this era so much bros
each generation had an acclaimed action-adventure that took the industry by storm
>gen 5 Ocarina of Time
>gen 6 Fable
>gen 7 Skyrim
>gen 8 Witcher 3 Wildhunt
it has a nice artstyle.
it's moron accessible being that easy.
had some cool features that were solely for roleplay and atmospheric reasons.
and personally it takes me back to the days when I was anticipating the game, the good old days.
>summer before i left for basic
>stayed off drugs but entertained all my drugged out friends by playing fable
>beat the game as a good guy then became a fat, over the hill drunk who hits everybody
was fun, i guess you had to be there
they don't test for psychedelics
>so desperate for Fable that I'm playing Fable 3
Fricking zoomer
You need to be a child with the ability to waste hours fricking around and not care about efficiency to enjoy it.
I found out via a gif on Ganker that you can vulgar thrust while using lightning.
needless to say Thunder was lucky his defeat took place in a cave away from prying eyes.
its hard to explain it has this black comedy thing it nails but at the same time is told like a childhood tale no other game has left that impression on me its like the perfect balance
so any whats going on with the new one stuck in development hell?
the npc are comedic but the world is slightly grimm
as were the fables and fairytales of old.
the other games in the series did not have this and it was all just lumpy people spouting tired quirky humor being unable to get properly gored.
