This gimmick shit is so stupid.

I feel like ever since Itsuno perfected Character Action stylish combat with DMC 5 everyone now has to rely on this stupid gimmick shit to even try to keep up now.

KEy Example: Astral has to make this Jojo knock off with garbage controls that don't even make sense. It's sad really. This isn't "innovation" it's stupid gimmick shit. All you need is weapons and style switching, just do that.

I can go on and on all day and tear down other games like Wonderful 101 and how the very concept of that game is fricked or the complete shit show Bayonetta is and how it never even had a shot to catch up. Or how Metal Gear Rising has nothing but memes and the stupid sword gimmick.

Do other Character Action games even have a chance at this point? I don't even think Ninja Gaidne has a chance at this point (remember when that was rumored to come back.), what even set's it apart?

Exactly. It's like making an open world game that isn't GTA. GTA already prefecterd it so no matter what stupid gimicks you add to your game no one wiill ever care.

dmc5 also has you control multiple characters at once. it just sucks dick because V is terribly designed and you have almost no control over the summons.
ass chain is a masterpiece by comparison.

can you make them move left or right? come closer to you? unsummon them?
you can in astral chain, and your player character has their own attacks so you can work together with the summon, instead of standing back and occasionally doing a God of War fatality

Nignog take. Bayo3 offers something entirely different from DMC with alternate weapons and demon forms, combat with kaiju demons in tandem with Bayo fighting. DMC5 had something somewhat similar but not really with V's gameplay, but Bayo's is highly distinct in the sense that you can go into bullet time while also ordering a giant demon while also fighting other enemies.

Action games have always had gimmicks
    >God Hand: RE4s-esque tank controls meets 3D beat-em-up
    >Chaos Legion: DMC5 V before V was a thing
    >Viewtiful Joe: 2.5D beat-em-up side scroller with time manipulation
    >Tales Of: Action RPG series that takes direct influence from fighting games, including the linear motion (before Arise fricked that up)
    >Kingdom Hearts: FF menuing translated into a real-time action combat setting complete with Disney characters
    >TWEWY/NEO TWEWY: control multiple characters at once at the same time, alternating between different pin/psych combos
What ultimately matters is the execution, much like any piece of work.

This isn’t even getting into the amount of games that were directly inspired by DMC but with their own twist such as Bujingai or the Nightmare Before Christmas games

      Legion: DMC5 V before V was a thing
That’s an insult to Chaos Legion since the summons in CL actually have room for interactivity between them and their summoner.

                1. does not increase your stats. it's just another way to get moves.
                2. sucks dick and they removed it in 4
                kingdom hearts, twewy, tales
                1. let you get 99 strength, 99 defense etc so you can face tank shit and mash your way to easy victories instead
                2. have item farming, gear and other mechanics to make it even easier to win without any skill
                3. these things are not punished at all i.e. there's no acknowledgement that you beat the level without using a potion, compared to someone who used 4 elixirs. tales sort of cares but not really

So, like how leveling up pins in TWEWY can make them evolve into stronger/different moves.
                >have item farming, gear and other mechanics to make it even easier to win without any skill
I like how say this when DMC has you be able to farm items out the ass and even get some ones that just kill every enemy in the room if you don’t care for getting the max ranking.

I love KH2 and Lingering Will is a cool boss, but I would say a problem with ARPGs over standard character action games is that you can break them if you know how. I never played TWEWY, but Lingering Will has multiple ways to cheese him and you’re rewarded the same way if you were to beat him legitimately

Cheese strats are commonplace among all action games as well and not at all exclusive to ARPGs. If anything ARPGs are the games that offer more player control and stronger enemy forms to mitigate cheesing and add more challenge to the game, while other games are shit out of luck and just have to ignore portions of what they offer.

      Both are almost the same.
Its just that DMC is freestyle by letting you change weapons mid combat while MonHun has you stick to a single weapon through out the mission. DMC weapons have as much complexity as the MonHun weapons, mate.

It mogs the bossfights of 99% the action genre, cooler weapons than basically the entire fps renge, and absolutely everything that actually matters for the gameplay being built towards making sheer action and combat.
