I have played other games and the other 2 FPSes that made me feel things was Titanfall 2 and Quake Champions one was a dying game and the other was another cheater infested game that had to be saved by the community by introducing their own matchmaking servers something I feel is about to Happen to TF2 wherein someone is going to make a custom launcher that has the old quickplay function where it just took you and placed you in a random live server in the browser that which accounts your distance and ping.
These bot hosters have no idea how close they are from basically being sugically removed from the game with a single act.
I want that to happen but valve would hella not allow that on TF2. The closest you will get is TF2C and Open Fortress but those have their own issues and also the fear of it getting removed AGAIN is very real
I can open up Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash right now, go into worldwide matchmaking, and not find a single living human to play with. Since my game of choice is long dead and abandoned, guess where I'm going? TF2.

The Finals and Friends vs Friends are the closest things that have gotten here and Quake Live is a ok distraction because I have history with that game but none of em have scratched thst itch still. They only ever changed the UI, and kept adding and removing Turbine to the map pool. It was a complete shit show and never even tried to be a comp mode. comp was for no one and valve was too chickeshit to pick a direction, ANY direction would have been better than what they did.
NTA but what pisses me off the most about Valve comp is the forced changes to your settings everytime you join it. It fricks up my viewmodel FOV, it raises all my graphics settings so my potato PC runs modern TF2 even worse while playing Comp, and the loading times for it are insane. I can deal with the queue times and the shitty map pool but let me play with my fricking settings, holy shit how is Valve this fricking stupid?

Its a bit more complicated than that, Overwatch has protected class heroes who are nerf/rework immune even if they're objectively garbage for the game. A lot of Overwatch's core problems stem from the fact that Reinhardt got classified as one of these, resulting in the creation of Orisa as well as starting the snowball effect that eventually lead us to the Double shield meta.
Obviously OW has so many issues you can't boil down the major things to just one reason but a lot of what caused 5v5 was Blizzard being genuinely moronic with balancing the game ever since Brig came out, who honestly shouldn't have even been a character to begin with beyond the moderately cool concept of "melee support".

It trivialized gameplay too much, and overly streamlined early map design to "SHIELD GOES INTO THE RECTANGLE HOLE", it also heavily limited what tanks you were actually allowed to play due to how overcentralizing it was for a very long time. Dive was a brief respite from Rein's shield, but as soon as they started to try to bring him back the game fell apart because his core impact on the game just isn't fun.
Its not surprising that in the move to OW2 chasing more dynamic gameplay less about attacking shields, he's total ass because they refuse to rework him still. So I can't say I see why its desirable for him to be like this.
oh i never said it was good, or even a good idea, but as i remember, a large part of overwatch's marketing was how you were actually going to fight like a team rather than random skirmishes like in COD or even TF2 to an extent, and the image of the team pushing forward behind Reinhardt's shield was a core example of it, so removing it would both greatly confuse players when you can't do what the marketing said you could and also reduces trust in the game and it's designers when it's core design doesn't work and is removed or changed
I think that ultimately all of overwatch's problems stem from them initally thinking that the MOBA style where the tank pushes and everybody follows really was a good idea for a shooter when it really wasn't, and thus when they had to tone it down the game constantly changed metas and they had no idea how to balance heroes or even how the core gameplay and strategy should be because the core design of the game just didn't work and so they have to retrofit the game to be whatever the frick they think it probably should be at the moment when it clearly was designed around a tank pushing the team down a hallway. the shield itself was just the most obvious and effective instance of this design.

they don't HAVE to run in text mode, but text mode is what's usually done since it's easier literally as there's no graphics needed to be loaded, and just client's code in the backround, almost the same as the 1 pixel thing but newer. CS2's updated engine made this not possible to do, so that's why all the chink vids of CS2 all actually have a client of the game running, graphics and all

Because winning and losing isn't the point of the game, it's about close games that last a good chunk of time. Compgays do not comprehend the romance.
A lot of the nocrit games are just too stale. If either team is getting their shit pushed in there is zero resistance and zero fighting back when things get bad. Pub groups can't rub their braincells together to do anything until they've been camped for a few minutes or the timer is running down to the last minute or two.
Random crits are an out of that still benefits the winning team, but can stop pubstomper teams from goofing around bullying the team with 5 spies on dustbowl for about a minute. It's not just about stalemates centering around the objective, it's about stalemates anywhere like getting pushed to spawn.
There are some games where things line up where neither side would be able to do or take enough damage to matter. That is where the mechanic excels in breaking those guarantees. You are rewarded occasionally for trying instead of giving up, and if you can aim a little too.
That being said random crits almost never actually determine the ending state of a round in practice, it's only good at shuffling things around a little. If anything it's only good for delaying the inevitable. You would have to have some very insane luck to actually do anything noteworthy with a random crit. Even kills with them can be incredibly insignificant.
I think they're fair and balanced unironically. It's all about the macro vs. micro scale of their use and impact on a match and most people can only think of the micro. I think they're more interesting to have than not, they get people (shit-)talking pretty often.
Also I can't lie, it's also pretty easy to troll the people who have critkill apology binds and actively clamor against crits because any crits involved instantly enhance my (un)lucky shithead banter. It's probably my favorite social dynamic in TF2, luck vs. skill. Can't really have that in nocrit land.
New games suck; Devs don't know how to please people who actually play games. No other game fills the niche that tf2 occupies so there is really no where for them to go. For a minority it's not wanting it to die so their cosmetics don't become as worthless as they actually are.

TF2 is literally lightning in a bottle, both gameplay and aesthetics-wise, and any attempt to recreate it would just be met with "it's a TF2 ripoff". Making a "replacement" for a game like TF2 simply isn't feasible.
It's gameplay was just a refined version of TF/TFC at launch. Believe it or not, there was a massive fraction of the TFC fanbase not happy with the looks of the game dismissing it as 'pixar kiddy shit' on top of the lack of conc nades ect.
The industry has been pumping out 6v6 e-sports slop for so long, with even Valve being guilty of it with Deadlock, that a game returning to the roots of TF2 would surely find an audience.

Community servers die off the older a game gets, that's well known. Not everyone is capable of hosting. Even most Ganker community servers that sprang up with the games launch started dying off by 2011-2012 (idorts, FoF, Toycove, Aids Pool ect). Some games last longer than others, but those that continue staying up no longer appeal to the core game and usually have alternative gameplay and gamemodes (Like CSS being full of zombie and surf maps) or stick to a 24/7 your 2forts, Dust, or your Strike At Karkands

I mean, what do they have to lose at this point? Valve is unlikely to shut down the official casual servers because they're still releasing new MTX every year. They will also never kill the game entirely because that would eliminate the item market. I'm convinced anyone still holding onto this game will just be playing it until they drop dead at 65. No amount of neglect from Valve will ever kill it for people still clinging on in current year. There's a total of 4 different Counter Strikes on Steam that you can choose from 1.6, Condition Zero, Source, and 2. 3 of these games do not have matchmaking and are completely driven by community servers. If you don't like nu-CS, you stick with CSS or 1.6.
