This is probably the best tactical game I've ever played. Not much randomization and a lot of ability triggers for units as well as extremely fun and varied maps. Music is also great.
Why does no one ever talk about it?

I have this game, it's pretty fun but some of the mechanics could use some tweaks.
The number one thing that stops this from being something I play often is the 6 unit limit in battle. I just don't like it.
Indeed I feel you should have been able to increase unit limits because I ended up with so many fully-equipped characters doing scavenging missions instead of actually fighting.
Exactly my issue. Especially with how the game dumps special/unique units on you quite often, you feel like you are missing out on using guys you have built up, or the super-strong special units you get. The core gameplay to it is very fun, however.
Because it's slavjank and Battle Brothers ate its' lunch. I own it and I found it quite fun, but I never managed to finish a game because it gets tedious after a while.
The world also has less appeal than Battle Brothers. Once again, I like it, but it's very underbaked. I was disappointed with how actually little there is to know about this fricked up world and why it's like this. So it's in a bad spot where it's not appealing to a wider audience, but also not explored enough for weirdos like me.
The hard coded party limit like others have said is a big issue, too. I went through a huge effort to get a big fricking crossbowman, and I can't use him because I'd have to replace a fully built ranged unit.
The turbo speed is nice, and I wish more games of this kind had it, but I wish it weren't mandatory in this game.
That's true, it definitely needed some more lore and/or character quotes that aren't just generic phrases.
But I feel there's no other game in the genre that's so fun to stack up tons of buffs on units and have them survive ridiculous odds.
'S good
Thanks OP, I was on the fence about buying that sometime in 2023 and you've convinced me to bite the bullet.
I got it from the last sale and I'd say it was well worth it.
At first you might end up in some fights you'd think you need to grind levels to beat, but strategy alone can overcome most challenges from the get go.
For example the swamp boss felt like absolute bullshit at the first 6 or so attempts but some targetting priority + terrain elevation shenanigans and the fight was over with no casualties from my end.
It's a good game anon, you'll have fun with it. The devs are pretty receptive to feedback on their steam forums if you want to ask anything.
As everyone in the thread is saying, the biggest gameplay issue is the cripplingly small party size for battles. It is exceedingly common to have a fight be 6v14 or more. I understand that the game has to balance for the fact that you are gonna make 6 rape trains. Still, that can be fixed, I did bring it up on the forum previously and the dev said he will most likely increase it in the future.
Another similar game was Expeditions Conquistador, which also turned me off due to limiting you to 6 people per battle.
How pozzed is Expeditions Rome? Worth a playthrough?
Never tried it.
I pirated it and found it incredibly boring and then deleted it.
>This is probably the best tactical game I've ever played.
It's an okay game, but unless it's the first tactics game you've ever played, this is a ridiculous statement.
The limited gameplay, shitty roguelite elements, bargain-bin enemy AI, and broken random level generation keep it from being actually good.
Used to play this in early access, twas fun. You can get this perk on your guy where your crit pushes enemies away. Since your guys automatically crit when standing on opposite sides of an enemy and get a free hit when an enemy is pushed into them, you can literally ping pong an enemy to death with this set up. Guess devs must have patched that out by now?
Artstyle is also pretty cool.
I heard the overmap layer was pretty anemic on this one, but that might have been during the oily access period.
Looks like shit
