One anti piracy measure I remember is back when Pokemon black/white released and the portes copies had pokemons that could not gain expérience.
HGSS had a finite amount of doors you could pass before the game crashing.
Chrono trigger on DS had an infinite time travel screen the first time you jumped in a portal during the opening sequence io the game.

it kind of stopped when consoles started having completely locked down OS with digital signatures and shit, last anti-piracy I remember was on DS, then 3DS was unhackable for a few years and even then nintendo just took vulnerable games out of the shop and issued patches

Phantasy Star 0, also for the DS, has a fricked up anti piracy measure that I encountered. It nerfs the drop rates of everything to the ground, so you can still play the game normally and get weapons and items only they are all bad.
Coming from Phantasy Star Online the drop rates were super weird because the amount of items dropped was huge, which is not like PSO at all, but they were all level 1 garbage even 3 hours into the game.
It made me look up a playthrough in confusion only to see that even within the very first chest you can open in the game people find way higher quality weapons than I had found so far. I couldn't even find a patched copy of the game and had to apply a decade old AP patch to it myself. Ever since then I have a lot of paranoia about AP measures in RPG type games.
So if you want to get PS0 just know that the version on Cdromance is NOT AP patched.

I hate all those fricking fake "spooky" anti-piracy screens that everyone was uploading to YouTube years ago. They make it so much harder to find actual examples of anti-piracy measures implemented in old games and I find those very interesting.
