oh, I guess it needs to make a new virtual memory card. Ok that makes sense. This sure is taking a long time though.

Why the frick does every virtual card need 8 "channels" (virtual memory cards)

Why the frick does it take 5 years to write a new fricking channel?

WHY THE FRICK does it want to do this FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL GAME?

Who needs 8 cards for 1 jak and daxter save? Why the frick is it so slow? I just wanted something I could use to put all my saves from all my different cards on and have them all in 1 place and occasionally back them up to my computer. Who needs all this extra bullshit?

      Wow, great feedback

Seriously though, please explain to me why you need an entire empty card (let alone 8 empty "channels")per game for 1 game save. Who fricking benefits from this?

Anon, /vr/ is comprised of mostly poorgays and turd worlders that will tell you to emulate. Asking for help with a real hardware device here is just opening yourself up to ridicule. Especially when you aren't even checking the manual and other shit for this thing first.

I have an infinite space memory card.
    It's called a USB stick

      >I wonder what this button does

      >Frick! I don't need another card right now.

So you didn't read the instructions and are complaining that you don't understand how to use it... galaxy brain right there.

      >Why the frick does every virtual card need 8 "channels" (virtual memory cards)

Easier to switch between sets of 8 cards than switching across individual cards. Switching a channel takes a single button press, switching a set requires more complicated input. Since you can literally crate millions of PS1 memcards on this thing, switching across individual ones would take ages if you had a lot.

      >Why the frick does it take 5 years to write a new fricking channel?

How shitty a MicroSD card did you use?

      >WHY THE FRICK does it want to do this FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL GAME?

It auto-creates a switches to a dedicated virtual memcard for each game if you are using an ODE or other software that are compatible with the memcard pro1/2, this is a feature so you wouldn't have to manually manage your cards and know what virtual card has saves for what game, it just gives each game it's dedicated card that doesn't have it's space taken up with saves from other games and auto-switches to it.

You would have known all this if you read the manual.... or even did basic research. I don't even have one nor have read the manual and I know all this, because I actually researched this thing.

      >I have an infinite space memory card.
      >It's called a USB stick

Does your USB stick work on a PS1? Does it auto-switch the virtual card to the current game you are playing if using an ODE? Does it have 100% compatibility with every PS2 game and not need any modifications on a PS1 or PS2 to work?

why the frick would you use this thing on a ps2 ?

The Memcard Pro 2 works as both a PS1 and PS2 card, the original was just a PS1 card.

Why not just get a SD2PSX?

More features, better support, no risk to short out your PS2 if you forget what mode it's in.

        >The Memcard Pro 2 works as both a PS1 and PS2 card, the original was just a PS1 card.
I was under the impression you're using OPL which uses vmcs to save games. It makes more sense to use it on a PS1, but even then you can just backup your saves on a ps2.

          >I was under the impression you're using OPL which uses vmcs to save games.

Not every PS2 game works with OPL's virtual cards though, I still use physical cards on my PS2 even with iso loaders.

          >It makes more sense to use it on a PS1, but even then you can just backup your saves on a ps2.

So buy a PS1 card, and manually juggle your saves to a PS2 every time it's full? Sounds pretty annoying, and that's ignoring the fact that if you have an xstation in your PS1 it can auto-juggle those cards for you among many other features.

It's not like this thing is expensive either.

true, I also use a memory card for those.
            >So buy a PS1 card, and manually juggle your saves to a PS2 every time it's full? Sounds pretty annoying
It's not a huge issue for me, It's not like I fill up a memory card every play session. I backup my saves like once a month maybe.

        >More features, better support, no risk to short out your PS2 if you forget what mode it's in.
I think you meant PS1. Just out of curiousity, is it more likely to damage the card or the console?
I don't really understand the reason behind that, but I don't wanna risk it to find out.

Yeah, I meant PS1. And not sure what is more likely, but console damage is possible, apparently there is a fuse it can blow. I forget if this fuse is just for the memory card port or both the memorycard and controller port, or even BOTH memorycard and controller ports. It's apparently one of those tiny SMD fuses. I believe a PS2 memorycard will attempt to pull more current than a PS1 can handle and blow the fuse, normally a PS2 memcard would be physically impossible to plug into a PS1.

          >Not every PS2 game works with OPL's virtual cards though, I still use physical cards on my PS2 even with iso loaders.
true, I also use a memory card for those.

Fair enough, I always wanted something like this so to me it's great, especially for backing up saves which depending on the system can be a hassle. It's also $40 which feels almost cheap compared to the insane prices a lot of modern accessories and mods for retro consoles go, so I consider the price more than worth it.

          >Does your USB stick work on a PS1? Does it auto-switch the virtual card to the current game you are playing if using an ODE? Does it have 100% compatibility with every PS2 game and not need any modifications on a PS1 or PS2 to work?
Why would I want a PS1 when I have a PS2? Why would I care about 100% compatibility when you're about to tell me that Winnie the Pooh Kart (Korean version) is the one that's not compatible? Wtf is an ODE and why would I care?

          >Why would I want a PS1 when I have a PS2? Why would I care about 100% compatibility when you're about to tell me that Winnie the Pooh Kart (Korean version) is the one that's not compatible? Wtf is an ODE and why would I care?

          >"Why would I care other than the very reasons someone would actually care that don't count because I said so as well as massively exaggerated?"

Sounds like you exactly know but want to be a b***h defending your poorhomosexualry. So I will tell your moronic ass anyway:

Because not all PS1 games play on a PS2, and even some that do have compatibility issues, enen with major games... and that's if you have the fat version, the slim's list of compatibility issues is three times as big. Also last I checked there is no known way to load PS1 isos on a PS2, you need to use burned disks, while there are several ODEs for the PS1. So you don't have to poorgay your way by burning a binder of slow-loading dollar store CDs.

Can you actually disable the card-per-game feature? I actually never cared about that stuff as I like seeing a bunch of save icons on each memcard.

Unfortunately not yet, but it's planned in a firmware update.

            >Unfortunately not yet, but it's planned in a firmware update.

Actually, nevermind, this might be outdated information form the manual for the first memcard pro. Can't find the manual for the Memcard PRO 2, but the manual for the first one is everywhere.

With both models they only create a VMC per-game if you use an ODE or FreePSXBoot/OPL.
Even then you can still just load a different memory card on the fly, or create a new one, if you want.

and yeah the manual as far as I can tell is only linked from a QR on the box, there isn't a support page on their website from what I can tell

Thanks. You would think they would just have a link on their site pro product page.

Looks like you can disable the GameID feature now, although it doesn't mention it in the GameID section but the settings section.

Sure thing, contradiction man. You wouldn't be using ISO's to shill for a useless device for an obsolete system if you owned the original games, that by the way would run fine on a PS2

It's called OPL you moron (and well well before OPL was called HDL), why bother fiddling with my collection of games every time I wanted to play something different instead of just dumping a copy of them all and choosing them from a list? ODEs and ISO loaders were discussed several times now, are you too poor to even pay attention?

Always thought these were borderline worthless products, especially for the price. The only system it really makes any sense for is PS1 since those memory cards barely hold anything however you can just get like 20 real memory cards for way less money if youre fine with swapping them out like I am. Makes even less sense for PS2 and Gamecube, even the standard 8mb PS2 memory cards can hold plenty of games 30-50 depending on what youre playing, if you just get one for each card slot you really should be just fine. And on Gamecube there are those cheap third party ones that have a comical amount of space on them(people claim theyre unreliable but mine has worked just fine) and can fit so many games the only limitation is the limit programmed into the gamecube itself which is like 100 or something. I guess its nice to be able to have the saves on an sd card and bring them to PC but there's other much cheaper ways to go about that and be honest with yourself how frequently are you doing that anyway.
