7 was fantastic for the first 1/3, then it falls off a cliff. The stupid Saw puzzle area, the boat, the salt mines, they were all garbage. There isn't a bad area in 8, though the factory does last a bit longer than needed.
Depends what you're looking for from RE I think 7 handled the horror, level design, and resource managements parts much better
