When I was 15 I played quake 2 on 360 because it came with Q4. I had a lot of fun & the progressively naster ways the strogg treated humans like in OP was the most entertaining part.

They used to sell game boxes with no warning that the game is even required in steam, like Supreme Commander 2, GOG even turned the multiplayer off on this game because the only multiplayer it has, is Steamworks, and Gas Powered Games didn’t even bother to make this one (the original creators of supreme commander 1, which wasn’t that good tbh). They gave it to Square Enix, and that is why it became literally a Steamworks zombie on Gog that has no online multiplayer. Can you say gay?

Quake 2 was always filled with insane marines that made you wish there were other marines. Well, there always was! It is called LAN (Local Area Network) you plug your computers into a router together and can play from separate monitors and keyboard and mice on different desks. There is also Direct Connect. Also in the original version, they don’t add gay canon that your marine doesn’t make it home at the end of the game. It up to you and the cinematic to decide. Bethesda think he is lost. No, Bethesda is just gay that why they removed connect.

Not that anon but I really can't. There's no wrong answer for picking either 2k4 or 99. I prefer 99 myself for the bot customization and this is probably placebo, but tighter gameplay. Also Lava Giant. 2k4 has more bang for your buck, more modes and a more fleshed out single player. I love both.

I'm playing the game and having a decent time but is it just me or is the mouselook not 1:1 accurate? It feels like theres smoothing or a delay or somethign and I checked the settings but don't see anything turned on.

You want a short but sweet challenge, go tackle Quake II 64 campaign. That shit was already kinda hard on the original N64, but with the enemy AI changes, or cranking this fricker up to Hard here? The amount of Iron Maidens, Gunners, Berserkers, Gladiators and Flyers they fricking spam at you is obscene, and they're all real annoying buttholes. I'm struggling to even hold onto shotgun and machinegun ammo most of the time and have had to get cheeky with the grenade launcher and railgun a fair bit.
Doesn't help that the maps love to drop zerkers and flyers behind your ass for cheap damage, sometimes even completely silently.
Can you play the 64 version with a buddy,for some insane reason they seem to have cut that from Quake 1?
Yes. It's built into the game unlike Q1R's add-on system so it has co-op support. Dunno how the cutscene stuff for each level end may work though.

I turned on texture smoothing. Normally I play without it, but 64 campaign is designed with it in mind; not doing so kinda breaks the visuals.

Played Quake 1, first time playing 2. Source ports, or this? This version seems pretty good.
Normally, I'd say source port.
But they did a really good job with Quake 2. The only two real issues are
