The PS3 ended up having the most exclusives worth porting/emulating, and in that sense can feel like the winner in retrospect. But most of those titles came towards the end of its life. At the midpoint and (especially) early on, the 360 was better. It was cheaper and games tended to run slightly better, apparently because it was easier to program for.
Also the Wii
Wii won
Switch won
>switch/wii
Nintendo hasn't attempted to seriously compete in the traditional (i.e. dedicated enthusiast/"hardcore") space since arguably the Gamecube. The Wii was explicitly targeted at non-traditional markets. It was for young children, empty nesters, retirement homes, etc.
It won in terms of sales figures but that's like saying the Toyota Corolla is the best car because it sold the most.
>the traditional (i.e. dedicated enthusiast/"hardcore") space
Sony and Xbox also left that space since the 8th gen, they're know in the casual dudebro COD/FIFA space. Real enthusiast play on PC and maybe get a Switch for the exclusives.
It genuinely doesn't. I'm not trying to be disingenuous or bring back the console wars, it's simply a fact that post-gamecube nintendo devices are aimed at different audiences.
No-one in late 2006 was torn between buying a 360 or a wii.
The bulk of the gaming audience was choosing between the 360 vs ps3.
Serious enthusiasts were choosing one or more of the 360, ps3, or upgrading their PC.
Retirees and parents of 4 year olds were choosing between the wii (or a handheld) or nothing.
The Switch is similar although portability does broaden appeal and complicates things a bit. I'd guess more people have a switch as a secondary system than would ever have considered a secondary wii.
Windows you fricking moron lmao you pc niggles can b***h and moan all you want but at the end of the day lugging your rig down to the family room to play cp2077 at ultra is COPE
Not that anon but- speaking as someone who's occasionally tried it- PC gaming on a couch is absolutely possible but far from ideal.
You can't use a gamepad for everything (even with Steam Big Picture), so you need to have a bluetooth keyboard+trackpad thing on hand.

>Nintendo consoles aren't hardcore enough >PC is too hardcore!
Do you know how poking holes in arguments work? I'm not actually claiming PC should win generations. I'm just saying the argument that Nintendo can't be counted because they aren't "hardcore" enough is objectively moronic. Who wins a console generation should be purely a function of sales figures and game quality, not the fricking demographics of buyers. If anything, a wider sales demographic should be an argument for why the console is better as it shows it can appeal to all types of gamers. That's why PS1 is always placed on top because everyone bought it and it had a ton of games for everyone.
>Who wins a console generation should be purely a function of sales figures and game quality
I interpret the question as "if someone bought a console at the start of the generation and kept it to the end, which one proved the best buy?".
I think that interpretation is fair, realistic, and interesting but it does mean the answer depends on the individual purchaser's needs.
In 2006, a 16yo whose favourite PS2 game is God of War obviously shouldn't buy a Wii, while a mid-40s empty nester couple who've never played a video game before shouldn't buy an xbox.

>The PS3 is way worse than the 360 when it comes to library.
Nah, PS3 had all the good western titles available for the 360 (only a few missing) + all the quality japanese games.
On the contrary, 360 had all the quality japanese games.
PS3 only got late, lazy port releases than ran like shit.
Sony exclusives were dogshit, and this was the one gen where MS exclusives were good.
Ninja Gaiden, DoA, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Infinity Undiscovery, Eternal Sonata (timed), N3, Lost Planet and Dead Rising were also originally only on the 360, please tell me what did the PS3 have because I can't think of anything.

also, some games run like shit on the PS3, Bayonetta was 30fps vs 60 on x360.
I owned both during the entire 7th gen and it's absolutely ridiculous to me that anyone thinks the PS3 won.
Most of the good games weren't releasing on it, the only Japanese exclusive titles it had were the absolute bottom of the barrel crap like Neptunia, even the 360 had more and better Japanese exclusives. Sony games were Uncharted and tons of failed attempts at trying to make a Halo Killer. This is without mentioning that most multiplats run like crap on the PS3.
Me and my brother also had both 360/PS3 and my peers at school mostly had a 360 to about a 4:1 ratio in the 360s favor. The only JPN game that the PS3 had that the 360 didn't that is of interest to me off the top of my head would be Demon's Souls.
In no way did the ps3 win the 7th gen. Wii did but 360 was a way more influential console, Xbox literally became a household name because of it and then they threw it all away after.
NES
SNES
PS1
PS2
Wii
Switch is the third best selling console ever but it came out in the middle of a gen, so I'm not sure what to do anymore. If Wii U is on the same gen as the PS4, then the Switch is on the same as the PS5? Or maybe both the Wii U and Switch are the same gen?
Either way I think it makes less sense to compare Nintendo sales to the other 2 anymore.
PS3: Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, God of War, Demon's Souls (best souls), MGS, TLOU, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet + any PS1 games (and PS2 games too if you owned the most expensive model)
It mogged the 360 hard, if you think otherwise you're in denial
Oh yeah, I remember the PS3, I had to suffer through all of those fricking mediocre Sony games.
Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, LBP are all CRAP that I bet you will never in your life replay.
Halo 3, Gears 1-3, Ninja Gaiden, Lost Odyssey, Forza, and all the fricking games that came out late (and bad) on the PS3 were just so much better.
Unlike you I actually owned both consoles.
holy shit taste
every single PS3 multiplat port was awful, PS3 started Sony's deranged lust for walking sims and all of those "exclusives" are not worth playing besides Infamous and LBP
I agree up until PS3, I think Mario Galaxy and all the other games that came out then kind of mog Halo, Uncharted and whatever the hell else came out then, I also think the switch is better then 4, with PS4 it was just... bloodborne? Rest was over the shoulder open world games with like 12 minute cutscenes, not unless you consider the Wii U then okay but it's hard to say
Early 360 dominated 7th gen. It was so good even europe was starting to buy into microsoft with most british homes having it over a sony console. I'd say around 2010-11, with kinect and sonys harsh price cuts they managed to save it in the end.
Looking back, ps3's library is a lot more fun and has more variety in games.
>PS4
Lmao, Switch won hard
Also the Wii

What? I have a PS5 and a Switch. Nintendo is a secondary system to play Zelda and Metroid and Mario. 3rd party games I play on PS5.
>I play all the 3rd party garbage on PS5 so switch is my secondary console
I'm more of a Wall of Voodoo guy, myself.
>Only count consoles for "hardcore" gamers
Well by your shitty definition, a PC hooked up to a TV should be at the top of every generation since you could start doing that.
Damn, you guys are moronic sometimes.
PC is not for couch gaming
You wanna back up that claim a bit so I'm not arguing with a dumb as shit brick wall?
Windows you fricking moron lmao you pc niggles can b***h and moan all you want but at the end of the day lugging your rig down to the family room to play cp2077 at ultra is COPE

Neither is hardcore/enthusiast gaming.

The WiiU was the PS4 competitor tho
Wii won
Switch won
Unless you're a child, consoles have been irrelevant since the mid-00s.
>not since 1979
You mean till videogames stopped being good? Really makes you think
>adult bragging about playing videogames on his peesee
Actually true, the NES, SNES and PS 1-4 have the best library of games of their respective gen. Still too early to declare PS5 a winner though
The PS3 is way worse than the 360 when it comes to library.
The PS5 is a complete joke.
>The PS3 is way worse than the 360 when it comes to library.

Bait? What did the 360 have? Ninja gayden? homie please

Wrong, No halo, no Gears. No Dead Rising.
>halo
MASSIVELY overrated.
>No gears, no dead rising
True, i'll give you that. But there was no metal gear solid or god of war on 360.
Halo 3 and Reach weren't overrated at all. They're both still amazing.
MGS4 was the worst one at that point, pretentious movie game. Goy of Slop gets mogged by Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2.
Also, the MGS HD Collection came to the 360.
So is the xbox series
Both consoles are complete jokes with no exclusives. Playing on pc and switch is better than ever
360 > PS3
Series X > PS5
PS3 was a great bluray player, that's about it
Japs are cancer. Nothing they have ever done is original and every copy they made is shit.
Xbox 360 beat PS3 in the west and the majority of that gen. This was made by a snoy.
Xbox360 mogged the shit out of PS3.
It should be Switch instead of PS4.
For current gen it's too early to say.
From a purely "AAA" perspective aka PS vs Xbox. I think the PS2 and PS4 are undeniable at least. Nintendo is a different beast altogether
>no gaems
>winning
?
>Nintendo winning any generation
Name 1 good Nintendo game
Citizen Kane
Correct but the Switch is trashing the PS5
>ps3 and ps4
In no way did the ps3 win the 7th gen. Wii did but 360 was a way more influential console, Xbox literally became a household name because of it and then they threw it all away after.
The PS3 not only lost, it's one of the worst consoles ever made.
The PS5 has no games. Even the PS4 had Bloodborne at this point.
NES
SNES
PS1
PS2
Wii
Switch is the third best selling console ever but it came out in the middle of a gen, so I'm not sure what to do anymore. If Wii U is on the same gen as the PS4, then the Switch is on the same as the PS5? Or maybe both the Wii U and Switch are the same gen?

>PS3
>PS5
do snoys really believe this shit
Saying ps3 won that generation is peak moronation. Everything else is correct except maybe switch instead of ps4 if you consider them the same gen
I agree up until PS3, I think Mario Galaxy and all the other games that came out then kind of mog Halo, Uncharted and whatever the hell else came out then, I also think the switch is better then 4, with PS4 it was just... bloodborne? At the time even Mass Effect and Bioshock were 360 timed exclusives. Before 2010 it was ridiculous how much you were missing out by only having a PS3.
and the PS3 ports were all notoriously shit
the only good gen 7 game is valkyria chronicles
lmao 360 clearly won no one cares Sony managed to pimp out to thirdies for years after the gen was done. Also switch.
I'd say 360 won over ps3
I agree with the rest
After PS2, no one wins
>PSX
>PS2
>360
>none
>none
PC above all due to emulation and mods
Early 360 dominated 7th gen. It was so good even europe was starting to buy into microsoft with most british homes having it over a sony console. I'd say around 2010-11, with kinect and sonys harsh price cuts they managed to save it in the end.

>Console thread
>pcshitters start jerking themselves off
No one cares that you guys get half broken ports and then beg modders to fix them.
Blame the idiot that said Nintendo consoles aren't hardcore enough to be considered to win generations.
Theres no winner this gen. Everything is shit. Neither the PS5 or Xbox or Nintendo have games.
