The PS3/360 era action game was cool, too. I believe you could unlock the older arcade games when you beat the game on hard difficulty or someshit but yeah...Shame that 360/PS3 era Splatter House game never really took off.
Simple beat'em up with the whole gimmick being that it's really violent and that's kinda it. It's fine I guess. Obviously made just to suck quarters though.
>US version of 3 is just one move spam
This. Unfortunate, because it could have been a classic had they bothered to balance it. Each stage allowed you to take various routes to the goal, with actual consequences for advancing too slowly (hence the one move spam).
At least it had some genuinely creepy moments and potentially depressing endings:
>Thoughts on Splatterhouse?
It's been on my backlog for so long, I should give it a fair shot at some point, where should I start? I've always been more of a SEGA Genesis fan, so is it alright to start with the 2nd one or should I start with either the arcade original or PC-Engine port of the arcade original? All of 'em look good.
Will do! It's about time I played a PC-Engine title afterall, I was always curious about this console, but never gave it a fair shot, so it's finally time to put all of my saved up ROMs to good use I guess.
I first heard about it as a kid from the HVGN video on the series, I've only played the arcade version on the namco switch port and it seems okay. I've never gotten terribly far in it though.
zoomer take. Its a solid game, cool music, Splatterhouse 2 is were it got really good though, especially the OST, can't belive we don't have it on vinyl yet.
Good. It's a very entertaining bmup. there's only a nice handful of really well done bmups that arent a slog nogger and splatter house is definitely one of them.
Love this series. Simple, gory, fun. Recently played the Splatterhouse mod for Doom, and while it was very cool presentation-wise, I find melee combat in Doom to be frustrating and not much fun.
I remember a girl who who was pretty proud of her extraordinarily large attributes at 13 and her favorite game was Splatterhouse. Never did ask her if she played the sequels.
3 is massively under-rated. A huge departure mechanically for sure, but it's one of the beat em ups on the Genesis/MD and honestly one of the best em ups period. Rock solid fighting fundamentals, a cool / unique time based dungeon crawl setup, and all that on top of the series great aesthetics.
That dude on the right has weirder musculature than a Rob Liefeld character.
>liefeld thighs
>mcfarlane toys elbows
I always have fun playing splatterhouse.
jason voorhees meets kung-fu master

The only hard stage is the heart of the house stage. It's very manageable to 1CC Splatterhouse.
A fun action side scrolling romp. Great looking bosses, plenty of monsters to bash.

2 is more trial and error than 1 despite the fact that it was an arcade game
US version of 3 is just one move spam
the original is cool tho

The JP balance is perfectly fine, just grab a JP rom. I got a 1cc without too much trouble, though I haven't done all the extra difficulty modes.
strongest slide kick in the business, extremely satisfying when you land it on the dual chainsaw boss and he dies quick
Was playing it for the first time the other day, and it's much better than I expected.
classic
pc engine version keeps almost all the great gameplay but it misses a lot of the background detail

start with the first. try the pc engine version
the 2nd one is a bit more frustrating with trial and error type levels

>pc engine version
Isn't that one censored?
A little bit. There's no axe at the start of the game to chop off monster heads with like in the arcade game. You start with a wooden board instead.
The axe shows up for a boss fight and that's the only time you see it in the PC-Engine/TG-16 game.
The Turbografx-16 version is even more censored. Religious symbols like crosses are removed entirely.
theres a romhack that adds in the cleaver and you can chop off heads
it's a much harder hack than the original though
I love it. I got the rare PC version and I also have the 2010 remake for both Xbox 360 and PS3.
One of those series that peaked with the first game, like Final Fight, but none of the games are bad.
My favorite version is the PC-Engine release. The music is better than the arcade for the most part and controls better to me.
I first heard about it as a kid from the HVGN video on the series, I've only played the arcade version on the namco switch port and it seems okay. I've never gotten terribly far in it though.
basic b***h game only remembered because of its le gore. the mortal kombat of beat em ups
Basic is fun

2 is the best. 3 dropped the ball.

Lots of style, little substance. I expect better from Namco although I guess they're not known for their beat-em-ups.
I remember a girl who who was pretty proud of her extraordinarily large attributes at 13 and her favorite game was Splatterhouse. Never did ask her if she played the sequels.
Good. I hope she grew up to spread her genes around.
it was aight. Had a lot of style. MC moved like a sack of bricks, but that wasn't uncommon at the time.
