Why do you say it's bad? Sure gameplay was nothing special but it more than made up for it in other ways. I played the Dreamcast version a couple years ago (played the PS1 version as a kid) and thought it still held up. The game had almost every major Spidey villain at the time, tons of fanservice to other Marvel characters, a great costume lineup, and featured actors who were actually from the shows.
Full of soul, had almost all of Spider-Man’s best foes in one game and they were all properly paced, something Insomniac needs to learn instead of having the entire Sinister Six fight Spidey one after the other and in tag-team battles too.
The comic book collecting was so influential that many future Spider-Man games under Actvision implemented that mechanic, even as far the game based on the first Amazing Spider-Man movie.
SURF THE WEB SURF THE WEB Played it again a couple years ago worried that I only liked it the first time because I was a kid, but was pleasantly surprised when it was still really fun.
The only Spider-Man game in existence that understood who Venom is, SURF THE WEB meme aside his character is actually on fricking point, he wasn’t a villain when he debuted in the comics, Eddie was a man full of hate and thought Peter ruined his life and the symbiote hated being abandoned, for Venom the beef with Spider-Man was personal but in some twisted fashion Venom actually wanted to prove himself to be a superior hero, same thing happens in the game where Venom screws Spider-Man over by kidnapping Mary Jane but only because he thought Spider-Man finally revealed himself to be the villain Venom thinks he is.
The EEL NATS cheat code, never forget. Really a great game but the level with the symbiotes in the library was just obnoxiously hard compared to everything before it. Me and my bro would have never made it past if it wasn't for the legendary EEL NATS
PC has the best graphics, PS1 is for nostalgia, N64 is simply fricked, it was way too limited in just about everything, in music, in cutscenes and even graphics despite the N64 having better capabilities on real-time rendering than the PS1.
DC is the better version, it is the same PC version where you can emulate it easily while the PC version today needs a ton of workarounds and fan patches to run in a modern PC.
>it is the same PC version where you can emulate it easily while the PC version today needs a ton of workarounds and fan patches to run in a modern PC
Honestly, I think I remember having problems trying to get it to run on Windows XP at the time and this was probably back in 2002 or something. Like, the game played but it would glitch out in weird ass ways that would make it impossible to play. At least from what I remember.
It may interest you to know that the PS1 version is the only version the original developers (Neversoft) touched, and the ports were handled by other studios, without Neversoft's direct involvement. So, if you'd prefer the original developer's vision rather than whichever is pushing the most polygons, go for the PS1 version. Otherwise, I suggest the DC version. If you decide to go with the PC version, use a frame limiter program of some sort to lock it to 30fps, to mitigate some of the bugs.
No matter which you choose, avoid the N64 version. It's very heavily cut down. Off the top of my head, less voice clips (including no "I'M ALREADY AT FULL HEALTH", a mortal sin), no FMVs (replaced with screenshot slideshows with text and sound effects, as shown in
PC > PS1 > N64
The cartridge size limit butchered the n64 version.
), no What If mode, the training mode with the cardboard cutouts of characters (whatever it's called eludes me) is gone, no Amazing Bag Man or J. James israeliteett, and probably more I'm missing. The only upside I can think of is faster load times, but you could just use fast forward in an emulator if that really bothers you so much.
It works in the PS1 version, though from a quick look online, it seems it was removed from all of the other versions. Sadly, I can't find a proper screenshot or footage of it online, but here's footage of it re-added to the PC version:
The "J. James israeliteett" in question is Joel israeliteett, the co-founder and (former) president of Neversoft.
I love the N64 because of course it was the version I played as a kid. Of course the PS version is better. But I can say 1 positive thing about the n64 version. The slideshows that replaced are worse than the cinematics I agree. But the good thing about the slideshows is that you can hear different samples of the music of the game that you can't find anywhere else. For example in the "masterminds" slideshow, you can hear Carnage theme, but only the first instrument. In the next slideshow you can hear the same song but now with the guitars. I think it suit the slideshows really well.
Still the best Venom in games/TV/movies. Probably the best comic book game in terms of story and scope as well. Extremely peak comfy 90s comic rock soundtrack help immensely.
Very kino but held back by sluggish meme controls and a product of its time. Man the police chase on the rooftops was one of the slowest things imaginable in a spider-man game.
Fantastic, fun, humorous, artistically sound, and highly influential for the future of Spiderman games.
This game and Spiderman 2: The Game (based on the movie) were the two most influential Spiderman games that made Spidey games a viable business.
Also credits to Ultimate Spiderman for introducing crossovers and playing as Venom, and Web Of Shadows for having the best combat, branching story and wall combat.
I'M ALREADY AT FULL HEALTH
NO ONE CAN CONTROL THE SYMBIOTES, NO ONE.
WE NEED NOT CONTROL THE SYMBIOTES SPIDERMAN
TIME TO DO A LITTLE PEST CONTROL
one of the best spider man games
>THE best Spiderman game
ftfy
Better than 2, besides the costumes
THE SUB-MARINER
box art is cool... that's it
HEY SPIDEY CAN YOU GET ME CAPTAIN AMERICA'S AUTOGRAPH
>that reflection of the window
WTF? I didn't know ps1 could raytrace
Played it about a month ago, lot of nostalgia for it from my childhood. Its not good.

I thought it was great at the time but I suspect it is one of the rare times a game hasn't aged well
I love surfing the web
Kino. That sequence at the end where you're running from Carnage had me shit myself as a kid
WHERE’D SPIDERWUSS GO
>WATCH THAT LAST STEP PARKER, IT'S A DOOZY!
Absolutely kino game.
Full of soul, had almost all of Spider-Man’s best foes in one game and they were all properly paced, something Insomniac needs to learn instead of having the entire Sinister Six fight Spidey one after the other and in tag-team battles too.
pretty cool
Look at that amazing atmosphere with that hand-placed light from the window, they even got shadows for the chairs
>game chapters used comic book covers
kino

far better than insomniacs shit.
kino supremo
that bank vault bomb mission in the opening gave me anxiety as a child
WHERE ARE YOU BOOOOOY?DIEEEEEEEEEEEE
SURF THE WEB SURF THE WEB
Played it again a couple years ago worried that I only liked it the first time because I was a kid, but was pleasantly surprised when it was still really fun.
HURRY UP, PARKER
I'm surprised how many skins this game had, and the cheat menu was fun too
admit it
it scared the absolute shit out of you
i had to ask my dad to beat it for me
Yep.
I never really thought games were scary as a kid. I liked them too much.
You fight monster ock in the Game Boy Color version.

PS1 since it has what if mode.
PC had what if mode too though.

>J. James israeliteett
Pretty sure that's non-functional in all versions, no?

Best Spider-Man game. Best Venom incarnation.
Terrifying ending sequence/
Making Venom become a comedic buddy cop guy halfway through was based as frick. Also Monster Ock was terrifying to me as a kid.
K-K-K-KI-KI-KID MOD-KID MODE!
was expecting him to pop up and give a thumbs up
TOE, toe, toe...
A lot of cheesy voice acting for its time and lots of helicopter noises. Also Venom had the best development.
my only knowledge of how Venom acts as a character is from this game
Still the best Venom in games/TV/movies. Probably the best comic book game in terms of story and scope as well. Extremely peak comfy 90s comic rock soundtrack help immensely.

Best spiderman game. Amazing ost, good combat, exploration, enemies and bosses.
It as good as Atari Spiderman.
It always haunted me that the back of the game case says you can play 1-2 players but I never found where this multiplayer existed

Is the best Spiderman game out there.
