<1% of total installs are modded. But at any given time before the fallout TV series released and after the release of all fallout4 DLCs, Id imagine more than 50% of installs are modded.

Dont forget that creation club is basically modding. Its just paid. This patch that "doesnt change much at all" adds a whole bunch of cc esp's.

Which is the entire reason Todd keeps making these updates. Break all the existing mods, introduce your shitty paid creation club mods. The funniest part, at least with Skyrim, is that those CC mods are so shit that people have actually started modding them just to bring them up to vanilla quality, forget about mod quality.

I don't think there is any malice involved. Todd and other boomers just update the game with new stuff they think people will like completely oblivious that it breaks regular mods.
Even then how do you explain to them that (content) updates are bad because mods need a particular version to work. People screamed at Beth for updates on FO4 and Starfield launches. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Even mod creators don't think it's a big deal or malicious outside of the inconvenience of having to update.

I know a lot of tech illiterate people who played modded Terraria or Minecraft. I've even instructed complete normies how to install some mods like co-op mods. A frickton of people play Pokemon romhacks.
Most playthroughs aren't modded and that 1% number might be accurate there. I mod a lot but even I probably played more than half of all games completely unmodded however a lot of people have modded a game or a few. If you are a PC gamer you are almost guaranteed to have installed a fix at least once in the past.

Today it's laughed at but at release Oblivion was genuinely impressive and that level of reactivity was unheard of before. Yes the main quests in these sucked but Skyrim and Fallout 4 do exploration and scavenging better than almost any game before or since.
I know it's popular to dunk on Bethesda on Ganker but they haven't made a bad game outside of Starfield, everything before was anywhere from good to amazing.

Whats really bad isnt that it breaks modded saves, its that it breaks mods in general. The esp changes and included CC mods frick up all the community mods made before this version.
Modders are fickle individuals and quickly move to new projects abandoning their last for any reason. In a game that hasnt updated in years these mods are at best fully functional, and at worst incompatible with newer mods.

        >There are many explanations as to why roughly 37% of Fallout 4 gamers are missing the game's easiest achievement. Besides the previously mentioned possibilities, it could also be that there are some gamers who have only played Fallout 4 with mods on Xbox. Mods disable achievements, and so that could also account for some of the individuals that have apparently played the game but somehow missed out on getting its easiest achievement.

A few games do stupid shit like that, I'm pretty sure it was to make console players not feel too inadequate because SSDs were forbidden alien technology for them until like three years ago. I remember Mass Effect 2 doing the same thing, it loads in half a second but the loading screen video is prerendered and the game won't continue until the video's over, so if you use a mod that makes them play at quadruple speed you load the next area 4x faster than an unmodded game.

You can't blame developers for updating games and breaking mods and you can't blame mod creators for not updating immediately.
The fault is on Steam not easily allowing you to choose the game version you want. The system is already in place, all I'd take is Steam allowing you to download previous depots. Developers can already blacklist certain ones so if they don't want people downgrading they can stop that.
Minecraft has a very large modding scene and has had the option to choose the game version since forever for that reason.

Holy shit why is the pc version so abysmal? In order to have a good experience you have to:

-wait for script extender to get 60+ fps
-mod proper mouse controls, because the x and y axis are not equal for frick's sake
-change resolution to ultrawide in an ini file because frick everyone who uses 3440x1440
-disable nvidia flex physics, because it crashes the game every 30 seconds
-lower godrays quality if you don't want to lose like 30 fps

I'm consistently becoming more convinced that Bethesda might be one of, if not the most based developer. They release half-baked products, let autists and troons make them playable (for free), then consistently re-break all the autistic troon efforts when they feel like it and do so without elaboration. Yet the modders keep slurping it all up, to Bethesda's profit.
