Not him, but I prefer Shadow Warrior over Duke 3D. The arsenal is more fun and the combat is absolutely balls to the wall, frick hitscanners, everything fires explosives.

SW popularity is a recent revisionism, like Doom 64. Nobody ever gave a shit about it when it was new.
Yeah, it was an overlooked game when it came out because who cared about a new Build engine game after Quake came out.

To be honest, Quake wasn't an overnight success. Its initial and first year sales were much worse than Duke Nukem 3D, for example. Many dismissed it as a graphical tech demo that lacked Duke 3D interactivity and fun. It's only the QuakeWorld multiplayer, GLQuake 3D acceleration and popular mods like Team Fortress earned Q1 a genre milestone award. There was still a big demand for Build engine games in early 1997.
Shadow Warrior never became popular, but the only revisionism is people like you saying that's because it was "bad".

Back in the day, Redneck Rampage sold a lot more than Shadow Warrior and Blood and was better recieved than SW
Shadow Warrior was kinda obscure. It was released even later than Redneck Rampage but had a graphical style of an early Build or Doom engine game.
Redneck Rampage had decent fake lighting pre-baked into some textures. It didn't look as ancient as SW or Blood in a post-Quake world

The "post-quake world" you speak of wasn't was only in the minds of people at the time. Nowadays nobody gives a shit. In fact, outside of its engine, Quake 1 was highly overrated, and its gameplay was largely inferior to Duke3D.
It's a Xatrix game so the damage calculations for each weapon range between 1 - 100. Usually being on the low end.

I love the theming and music, but the level design is ass when compared to Douk.
Very weird, unless you're big into redneck humor it won't appeal. Guns feel pretty basic and the levels are poorly thought out messes with items you can barely see, including the keys.
