Is it even possible to hit the enemy? I've done 12 clears now and not a single time has the cpu gotten hit by a single bullet, and not a single screenshot I've seen has shown the cpu between 0 and 5 hearts.
it's possible, just kind of rare because fights generally don't last long enough to get your ex/boss level to a point where you can actually hurt them
I also forgot about them having barriers. Not sure why ZUN did it this way where a clear takes like 15-20 minutes or so. It makes it feel like there's no point to charge except to raise your barrier back up, though online it'll mean much more I guess.

PoFV has a lot of weird quirks when you get into the nitty gritty, but it's simple enough that anyone can get started.
With VS shmups, it's hard to avoid getting near-undodgeable patterns due to RNG. In PoFV, it's easy to explain how the game expects you to handle this (use your L2), but for UDoALG, I haven't got the slightest idea of how you'd win except by producing undodgeable garbage faster.
So a newbie to PoFV will be satisfied by just dodging as best as they can and won't feel that something is amiss (even though they don't know about reflecting bosses, scoping affecting fairy spawn rates, etc), while a newbie at UDoALG very soon will want to know how they can generate more garbage.
And yeah, I know reflecting bosses is very important in PoFV, but I've never had a new player ask about it since they don't feel as if the game is incomplete without knowing this.
Obviously, I'm speculating about how high level UDoALG will play. I could be very wrong.

Chiyari is a badger called a chupacabra that likes to drink blood and lives in blood pond hell for that, Zanmu introduced her to Yuuma as fellow blood drinkers

It left a bad first impression since the damage you do without cards is a bit too low. First impressions aside, the card mechanics just aren't very deep. Not enough to ruin the game, but it feels like it didn't live up to what it was trying to be.
100th black market tried to make the cards more interesting, but feel short due to balance, and probably due to and lack of scoring/replays.
The games have such glaring flaws that I think almost anyone could have pointed them out to ZUN, if he just had people playtest for him.
I hope he'll patch TH19.

Most notably, that game introduced the Hell plotlines before 16 added Okina to the mix as a major player. The style has definitely been pretty consistent for better or worse since 16, and we've seen repeated story beats like in the preceding era. The latest games have also had the card gimmick.
In short, there's around four overarching eras of the series. It's not the end of the series, but I could definitely see a new era beginning next time whether it's more transitional like LoLK or just an obvious refresh.

The stage design was always shit. It's the bosses people want to play. The stages are just filler to make it feel like a game and not a boss rush mode.
The real reason for the stages is actually to give us fantastic stage themes.
Most of the early ones are remixes from other songs though. So you can't call him a "music savant", at best you could call him a "remix savant" because he's really good at taking existing things and remixing them.

I realized this after experiencing proper arcade STGs. And then after that realized most of this also applies to them where if you don't happen to fit into those ultra-specific niches your interest just bounces right off past a certain point
Touhou is way better than most "classic" arcade shmups. Shit like Parodius or Salamandar can be extremely cheap to make you feed it quarters. Touhou is also way more accessible than even competently designed more modern games like Ketsui.
The real winner is modern PC shmups, which are typically made by people who know what made the classics good, and where there is no economic incentive for them to kill the player because they didn't yet memorize where the solar flares are going to appear, etc. They also typically have a ton of accessibility features, to make sure new and old players can enjoy them.
If touhou is so accessible where is my accessibility option to turn down bullet brightness? specifically those flaming orbs. Hate those things
