its definitely the most fun. last year i played through all of CS 1 - 4 again as prep for Reverie, which i played immediately afterwards. And the combat was still fun to me, even after replaying all 4 + the new game
kuro combat i thought was getting a bit long in the tooth when i entered that desert area, at least on nightmare. so far its not as fun as CS for me, though i only played the first one so far
trails in the sky fc was completely unremarkable and it didn't even have cute anime girl fanservice to make up for it
do I really need to slog through 1000 hours of this shit before it gets good?

I promise that the Sky trilogy is worth your time. I thought Zero was boring as hell and Cold Steel felt like a slog to go through.
