This is apparently a dev that split from Hi-Rez and took Tribes with them, but I can't seem to get a straight answer on if they're still affiliated.
I've heard they're a "sister studio", I've heard they're a subsidiary, I've heard they're fully independent, all at the same time in the places.
They've still got the Made in Georgia intro stuff, so they at the very least didn't move far.

Their LinkedIn page for Prophecy Games lists Erez Goran as the founder of Prophecy Games, HiRez, and some other. What I gather is that Prophecy Games is completely separate at this point, and is considered a sister company because it was founded by the same guy. Probably similar board members and other investors, as well, that we don't see for a privately owned company.

The skiing is different. There's some sort of a boost from standstill and and magnetism when skiing. They're experimenting with different physics.
All I'm seeing is a player completely failing at skiing but still maintaining speed no matter what.

Halo did it. Halo 2's online modes were mostly 4v4, except for big team battle which was 8v8.
I played a a metric frickton of Halo 2 in high school and must've wiped that from my memory. Though I guess most of the time was LAN or BTB.

For now in this test it's just 5v5, but they've committed to having up to 64 player games.
I think that's part of why the base interiors are empty, but turrets aren't on a generator system. They'll probably add generators and more base defenses as the "secondary objectives" in larger games/maps.
It's the game mode they're focusing on as in on balance and maps. The game will support larger teams but there's talk about having the "community" create those game modes, whatever that means. I'm getting flasbacks of TA mapping and modding tools that never came. So classic Hirez bs and poor communication.
I hope hope their futile chase for epsorts doesn't kill the game. There will be people want to play this "competitively" but it will not be on Counter Strike's level.

Was Tribes ever fun? Because this looks boring and so did Tribes Ascend. Don't really get the appeal, especially compared to old UT and Quake.
There is stuff you can do in Tribes that just isn't possible in other games.
Tribes 1 and 2 were a lot more fun than UT and Quake honestly. the big maps and variety of strategies made it a blast

Yeah, it actually does, the lowest quality they let you set the game to is "medium" and it already looks worse than T:A while running worse. No option to lower render scale too. I was struggling to keep even 40fps when I can easily run OW2 and TF2 both with 120+
I was honestly gob-smacked seeing the gameplay video. It honest to God looks, at best, on par, or even WORSE than T:Ascend. On top of that I can just tell the game looks like it runs like absolute pig shit.

my favorite shit from the old Tribes games wasn't capture the flag. it was the large battles and fortifying bases with walls and forcefields and terrets. using radar jammers to sneak in and blow stuff up on a huge frantic scale.
now tribes 3 has 5v5 capture the flag and they don't even know if they'll do other game modes. idk. i like the series and CTF is fun but its not the most interesting part
that's kind of why ascend worked so well at first imo. back when a heavy could have two shields up while the engi had two turrets and mines everywhere. it made for gen def/off play really really fun.
they should take a page from old star wars battlefront. in normal battles you just try to murder ALL of the other soldiers and "reinforcements" (limited number of respawns). in space battles the goal was to royally frick up the other ship by bombing it to frick or balling in and blasting systems on the inside

also the thing that killed Tribes: Ascend was its business model. People will b***h about most unlock systems, but the "pay money for straight upgrade that's unbalanced or broken" (free blue plates with plasma launcher only 4.99) drove a lot of people away
The unlock system being a cancerous grind was a problem. First things were only connected to class loadout so the amount of tokens to unlock a class was crazy. You basically got Ranger/Soldier and had to unlock everything else, with the first one or two being cheap to unlock but then after that it became so expensive that you might as well pay. Then they made it generic "light/medium/heavy" loadouts that you customize. That was really when they went all in on releasing new versions of weapons that were straight upgrades for money. You could "earn" new the straight upgrade versions of the weapons through gameplay, but the grind was absolutely absurd so it might as well have been only been pay money.
I remember the only shit grind for me was some of the higher-level weapons.
I thought the zig-zag dance meta was kind of lame and I'm actually excited to see if dodge boost shakes it up

The "higher-level weapons" were just re-skins of previous weapons that would do things like increase direct damage of a spinfusor but have a smaller splash range, which is objectively a better choice since splash damage was already nerfed to hell and back. They kept doing that with pretty much every weapon, and they released them really quickly to where you can't just grind and earn them.
they should just put in weapon customization. actually, they should 100% rip off deep rock galactic but make the upgrades actually matter/be balanced

It was fricking crazy, it was like what 50,000 credits to unlock a weapon? And each match which lasted like 20 minutes or whatever only gave <1000 credits so it was a crazy amount of grind required to unlock a weapon for free, versus paying like $15 for it
And they were releasing these weapons fast, I had barely had time to grind one of the weapons when they released a new one, then another one
I bought the first few classes day one because I liked the game, they were so broken on launch it was unreal. Like the ninja dude could fire a 3 burst grenade that did 1.5k damage and insta-killed lights with massive splash damage, and mediums and heavies were instantly taken out with throwing knives that had similar absurd hitboxes. The plasma cannon was an absolute joke, you could fire it in the general direction of an enemy and get blue plates every time.
Then they nerfed the shit out of all of them a week later so F2Pers didn't get any of the fun, it was obviously just designed to make whales happy.
That was one of the worst things about Tribes: Ascend, they would release comically overpowered weapons, get everyone to spend real money on them, and then nerf them a week later. It was downright sleazy.
asides from the pay-2-win the game was designed competently. So I hope these bozos from a related company can do it. They claim they're under different management but they seem rather vocal about it so there's hope.

Yes please. One of the biggest issues with Ascend in CTF mode was the absurd speed cappers could reach on all those rolling fricking hills, with too many angles for defenders to cover with their limited equipment. That made defenses and interceptors/ chasers practically worthless since half the time if you had good speed you just straight flew to your base without ever touching the ground. The only defense that worked was a snapshooting semi stationary sniper, which is just gay as frick.

I played doombringer with the moron lock-on and I basically never fired it but it would always scare them away for sure. Snipers have to position along corridors to reliably hit fast scouts.

With Realm he forced the devs to put legendaries in chests when they were only originally availbel from the forge. The forge rewarded only those who could get kills. Chests would give legendaries to everyone regardless.
I've never played Tribes before, but I'm interested. I've been feeling really nostalgic for that era of PC gaming lately. Things like MechWarrior and Planetside and Unreal Tournament. I hope it's good.

bot modes are great for getting kids into FPS initially, that's how almost every FPS gamer I've known irl got into multiplayer games when we were too dumb and using too bad hardware to compete with humans online. but let's face it, that rarely leads to the same game growing. getting a MP game off the ground requires mass appeal and a technically solid launch, among other things. a bot mode? I don't think that helps at all. players who are off fighting bots aren't boosting the queue times / server populations. the game looks as dead with them as without. by the time the noobs get curious about facing real opponents the game has already died.

I rather have a mix of dumb bots and godlikes bots with autoaim than a shitty queue system in a dying game, with bots at least I can play the damn thing, without them its over, there is no game to play, I can still play UT2k4 and have fun, ascend on the other hand is dead.

That sucks. Probably has to do with the game being delisted years ago and the servers being gone though. You can't buy it or anything, and if it wasn't already installed on mine still I'm not sure I would have been able to download it either. I know the PC version had GFWL and without some obnoxious workarounds it's probably unplayable there too.
what is even more strange is that section 8 prejudice was a SEQUEL to the original self titled game "Section 8" that came out around 2007. I can't even find story cutscenes for it online. Everything insists prejudice is the same game. What the hell happened? Its a genuinely fun combined arms multiplayer game with PVE modes.
I had both. I think the original Section 8 bombed though, Prejudice improved on it a lot and it was the one that was somewhat popular. I don't recall the original even having much of a campaign, if any. I think it was more like a few tutorial battles against AI to introduce the multiplayer mechanics and that was about it. Either way, they are the definition of forgotten at this point, which is a shame because I think they were pretty fun and had cool ideas that could have been improved a lot with modern technology.

I have to admit I haven't played Quake for a while, not even sure which is its latest iteration. But for me Quake was always a deathmatch/team deathmatch game with a dozen weapons on a small map.
Tribes has bigger map, more weapons, vehicles, bases and the duality of flag and reactor objectives.
Warframe has like 300 weapons and 50 playable characters, a whole bunch of mission types, etc.
Quake just feels simple and bland to me.
maybe you only played a braindead click-on-the-guy mode like instagib or freezetag. Quake DM and TDM are extremely cerebral due to the importance of items. the pace is very high though so a new player can easily get overwhelmed and think it's about jumping and shooting randomly.
I think that DM/TDM itself is bland and boring.

It will never have good vehicles, Ascend gave up on making good vehicle gameplay too. So that's only one quarter of a good tribes game now. The maps are too small for good bomber/transport support.

Tried it for a bit. 0 inheritance on projectiles except for a special spinfusor that has 100%. Direct hit spinfusor is extremely strong. Very hard to actually lose momentum when skiing.

Most maps can lend themselves to capping routes, but at some point I want a map like Broadside from T1, where the flag was deep in the base and there were multiple ways inside. Sometimes, you had to form a group assault to slowly push your way in, and it made for a more tense game of ctf. People forget that a big part of Tribes is base defense/assault, and the later games never captured this as well. Vehicles too. I just miss the huge bases and maps you could get lost in.

Why do modern multiplayer games have such a big obsession with smaller teams in shooters?
It especially doesn't make sense when you consider how devs have a big problem with "toxicity" in shooters. If there is one fricking thing I have observed is players are more likely to be at each other's throats when the teams are smaller because their teammates not playing well matters more.

My guess is there has been some new study that found player retention increased on a 5v5 and they could keep people on the hamster wheel longer with the idea they have more of an impact and can influence games.

Very focused on competitive, basically lights only small maps and teams, more control but hard to get used to. Thrust vectoring felt pretty hard to actually get decent at.

Maybe it wasn't a hard cap, but a limiter or something that made it harder to maintain speed once you get so fast. Either way, it was a dumbfrick decision.

From what I've gathered the tribes community falls into 2 camps.
1. People who want serious esports comp play
2. People who want huge pop servers primarily about vehicles and base play.

The game is a rush job. They fact they can't simply commit to a bigger playtest right now should tell you everything you need to know.
If what other anons have been saying about it being only a couple of months in development is true, then I really don't understand the extreme rush behind it. Doesn't make sense to shove a barely started project out the door like this.
Their other game flopped hard. This is supposed to be an "easy" project, which doesn't inspire confidence, but maybe they're hoping they can just copy shit from the older games. I feel like they should have just remade one of them. Could have gotten the nostagia bucks and had an easy development.
When games from two decades ago has 128 players running on glorified calculators and dial up connections, it's a crime that a modern title is even beginning at 5v5.
