I can believe that actually. It does fit the theme very well.

tfw no relicanth in the art

Relicanth couldn't made it to the card probably because it lives on deeper waters (like on Hoenn, the region where is from)

Thought to have gone extinct, Relicanth was given a name that is a variation of the name of the person who discovered it. The reason it hasn’t changed at all in a hundred million years is that it’s apparently already a perfect life-form.

How so? I don't know shit about paleontology

So fossilmons actually looked like this originally and were rock type?

Kabuto was stated to be the original since Gen 1 and Relicanth is rock type. Mega Aerodactyl is also rock type. The whole "they weren't rock type" thing is poketuber headcanon.
The only ones suspected to be different are Aerodactyl and Tyrantrum. Though that'd mean the illustration is on modern times, not prehistoric.

It works better in japanese where its called Glanth.

Relicanth is based on a fish that was thought to be extinct since the Cretaceous but was found in the late 1930s and it was groundbreaking. Considering a "living fossil" in that it has remained morpholgically unchanged for millions of years. So Tropius could be a living relic of the past too.

        >Aerodactyl

he was 100% a rock type in the past since his Mega literally says that it's more of what he used to look like than his revived form, and his Mega is just him with a shit ton of rocks poking out of him.

The rock type has to do with being from the stone age, not being fossilized.

If fossil mon are indeed based on dinosaurs from our world that's not true. Dinosaurs did not exist during the Stone Age. The dinosaurs died out about 65 million years ago. But, it's a fictional world with a fictional timeline and fictional animals, so who knows who's right here? Gamefreak for sure doesn't.

So fossilmons actually looked like this originally and were rock type?

If we have to believe this pokemon card, I guess so. Maybe their bones were the only ones to survive for so long due to them being rock types in the first place, meaning all non-rock type dinosaurs went extinct (except for those that didn't go extinct, like tropius.)

          >dinos died before the stone age
No shit. Dinos are associated with the stone age because of the flintstones

...uhhhh how long ago do you think the stone age was?

Perhaps the only fossil pokemon we find are rock types, and there are many, many extinct Pokemon that aren't rock. its. just for thematic purposes and gameplay.
or alternatively the rock types just become fossils easier

Really nice artwork, weird that they didn’t use Aurorus though.

Aurorus (and Amaura) live in colder climates while what is depicted in the card's art is clearly tropical.

Nah. This is clearly an island where revived fossil pokemon have been released to roam around. Jurassic park style. Tropius fits into the tropical environment and ecosystem, and so was also released there.

mega aerodactyl is how they looked back in prehistoric times so this art's either bullshit or just set in modern times

Well clearly it wasn't an ice age that killed the fossilmons
