Looks like it's the original game, not the HD port I was thinking of, which definitely has some bugs.
The problem is this is from an era where games that were more well known on console were dumped on PC with no support and this game hasn't been updated in probably almost 15 years so to get it to even run properly you have to download fan made patches and do everything yourself. There are a shitload of games from this era that it is a fricking crime they are allowed to sell them still in their current state, some of them don't even run at all without patches on modern hardware.
BG&E from GoG runs fine on Win11 despite being a 20 y.o. game (same age as Jade in game btw).
The only thing you made need is a widescreen fix, but even without it the game is totally playable on modern PCs.

Because it's a shit port, made back when PC ports of console games usually meant having missing graphical features, spotty controller support, and even really dumbass KBM layouts that try to compensate for said spotty controller support.
If you have a modern computer you can just emulate any of the three original console versions. I'm lucky to own the game on Xbox, and luckier still that the piece of shit still works properly.
I just realized that original Jade looked like 3 races mashed into a single person.

I still have no idea what that game they revealed was supposed to have to do with Beyond Good & Evil.
A prequel to give wider context to what they would have wanted to go further on in a potential 3. The goal was clearly to set up how/why the world of 1 is the way it is by going into where the animal hybrids and corpos came from as well as Jade's past since the end of the first game makes it out that she is not human in origin.

Cute enough for a complete art style chance but could do with sharper cheekbones to more emulate the look in 1, and obviously, needs the green lipstick. Even if she's meant to look younger you should keep the defining facial features.

I loved it. Loved the atmosphere of exploring the lighthouse, the wacky chase sequences, taking pictures of flying space whales, etc. etc.
But nothing about the trailers for the sequel made me think it'd have anything in common with the original beyond its name.
