It was pretty bizarre because that militia was intended to be an antagonistic one, a totalitarian army with decent people among its members; it didn't need to specifically talk about sexual orientations or the like.
It reminded me of that comic book page where a bunch of supervillains cry over the Twin Towers.

That was unintentionally funny. Either the writers were dunking on lesbians, or sony asked them to add a lesbian so this is how they shoehorned it in.

          Anonymous

True. But that aspect was odd and unexplained, he spends the early part of the game sincerely thinking it's better for survivors he finds to send them to Tuck. I get the impression he has some kind of past with both, but it's never developed.

Tuck is not a slave driver. The basic principle of "you want to eat you gotta work" is upheld by borderline every community. You have to be a fricking video game journalist to interpret that as slavery.

          Anonymous

Survivors can leave Cope's camp whenever they want. In Tuck's camp, men with guns keep everyone inside and you can't leave.
Even more fricked up, the big strong men are the ones with guns forcing the weak, women, elderly, and children to work. The guns would work just as well if the elderly were the guards and the able bodied men did the manual labor they were fit for.

The part where they hunt down runaway "workers" is pretty sus

"Workers" that know weakpoints and other things that are better off not known by others. As well as stealing.

Sneak around in the dark and you'll get shot first questions asked later. I'm sure the same shit happens with the community with the bisexual doctor in the mission where you have to sneak in to steal medicine for Boozer.

Frick Tuck Cope is better than her and he spends all day talking shit on the radio. Lost Lake will outdo them in raw food production once they claim the old bioweapons that Deek's old lady used to work at anyways. No amount of dickswinging with rusty AKs and beating of children will make their camp any better. Cope and Lost Lake should just roll in, slit their heels, leave them for the freakers and turn the place back into a community run hotsprings. Better use for it than what they are doing now with digging their own graves.

I thought that Deacon was pretty fun and intriguing. His insane mumblings and apathetic stance on politics and communities was actually well written I thought. It also completely fits his drifter status. The game had much bigger issues than Deacon being an butthole to some people, such as shit missions and the empty world.

The story is also rushed in some places but I wouldn't mind a sequel.

Americans love characters who narrate and whisper to themselves while they do things, especially if they are middle aged men with strained voice. Its been a thing for female characters too nowadays.
You got Spiderman, Alloy from Horizon, God of War, Alan wake, Lara Croft on NU Tomb Raider, the guy in RDR2 etc.

Despite all the mumbling lunatic talking to himself, Deacon St. John was afraid of friendship with Copeland. An odd love hate relationship, because Cope was right. Honestly, they were both right.

It's pretty noticeable that there was supposed to be a lot more to the relationships between Deacon and all the communities but the devs probably didn't have enough time to focus on it. Reminder that the lead dev of this garbage threw a b***h fit about people buying it on sale instead of full price

      Anonymous

And? "Throwing a fit" means they were passionate and gave a frick, he got upset because they got trashed by dishonest leftist journos and Sony needs its games to either be critics darlings (like TLOU, Horizon and nuGoW) or big earners to greenlight a sequel, he was upset because of negotiations with Sony.

What you dont like using melee that break in 4 hits

Good example of dishonesty from people who barely played the game and engaged with its mechanics, melee weapon durability is only a pain in first few hours because you start underpowered and you're supposed to scavenge and flee encounters to survive but by the end game you get strong axes that you can repair yourself

What were the other 2? I love the Arkham games, but even Elden Ring soured me on its open world.

I love the desolate rural, almost western setting and I agree it does some very interesting things for an open world, two things for me:

            - the bike being core to the game design since it's also your save point, having to keep it fueled can be annoyed but it's what creates tension when you ditch it, can't fast travel unless close to bike and cleared nearby nests.... the few times where you're out of fuel and end up stranded in unexplored territory are peak game. Plus it's just a lot of fun to ride; they nailed basic traversal pleasure

            - and maybe it's an unusual comparison but it reminds me a lot of STALKER in some ways... in the highest difficulty it's really tightly balanced, I love early game hobo phase actually feels like a tough survival game with scarce resources forcing you to scavenge, preserve ammo and use tactics, it has this pseudo-A Life that injects a lot of tension, unpredictable randomness and emergent gameplay when simply exploring, nights aren't just an aesthetic change but become more dangerous because different horde behavior, etc.

Although it also suffers from generic things like shallow formulaic Ubishit and result of being primarily a console game designed around a controller. You can tell they borrowed some stuff from the lame Ubi formula, but were also inspired by the higher quality of Rockstar, especially RDR1. The problem with most open worlds is most devs realized they couldn't compete with Rockstar so most went full Ubishit instead.

Oregon is beautiful. Would love to visit or see it again in a sequel. I picked up Days Gone and was pleasantly surprised. Way better than the other PlayStation open world exclusives like Horizon. Hoping for a sequel too.

I do believe that Days Gone, as generic as may be, is a good and solid game; the bike riding alone was pleasant enough that I didn't bother with fast travel, I just enjoyed riding my bike through devastated but beautiful rural Oregon.

Also, thinking a game is garbage but still liking it is perfectly feasible. I do have some games that I acknowledge aren't good in the slightest but I still enjoy them despite their flaws because they have something that I personally like even when I wouldn't recommend them in good conscience.

no he was explicitly saying the game is garbage
those two guys are the same sort of guy on the opposite side
i agree with most what youre saying other than liking a game that you think is garbage, what game would you even consider to be like that

                >no he was explicitly saying the game is garbage
Yes he did, but he also said that the other guy only liked the game due to politics. So I agree about the other guy only liking Days Gone due to unrelated reasons but disagree about Days Gone being a bad game. How can you hate a game where you can lure a zombie horde to a bandit camp and watch from afar how said bandits are teared off to pieces?

                >what game would you even consider to be like that
Pic related. It's the worst kind of bad game: a game where you catch glimpses of a genuinely good game but said good game is trapped inside a low budget, poorly designed piece of shit.
I still like it because I loved the artstyle, the girls and the gore but I would never recommend it.

It doesn't matter; it's not a good game. I just posted it to illustrate my point about how you can like a game even when it's objectively shit.

You only had to do the NERO missions. I didn't complete all the hordes and I still got the secret ending

                Same.
I think the horde competition is required for the Easter egg that reveals Days Gone to be a stealth Syphon Filter sequel. Maybe I'm wrong, it has been a while since I played the game.

The only "pacing issue" is that the game keeps going after what would have been a satisfying conclusion. But if you enjoy playing the game you won't mind the extra content and final zone. I'm glad we got the military island segment since we're never ever getting a sequel.

Yes some of the biker stuff was cringe but there's not a lot of it. Hordes were incredibly fun though but not worth picking the game back up just to run them again.

There are gas cans literally everywhere. Plus the gas stations aren't too far from anything a little planning ahead won't solve. I also only found out you can fill up directly from the pumps on my second playthrough. I just thought the pumps were busted till I got close with the bike and a button appeared.

I didn't like how they respawned all the hordes in post game and expected you the clear them all again for the "secret ending". Just watched it on youtube instead, since they'll probably never follow up on it anyway.

State of decay 2 definitely, there you get a actual base to frick around with and minmax. It also has a actual noise mechanic where you get fricked if you use guns without silencers too much
Its a lot more 'arcade' gameplay over days gone which is more realistic

Don’t you have to constantly refill the fuel? That’s something that was putting me off. Also how bad is weapon durability? That can make or break a zombie game for me

Nope, the bike lasts pretty long after you upgrade it and you can do that very fast. Riding the bike was 100% my favorite part of the game along with the Oregon map being so cozy to explore and ride.

          Anonymous

Once you upgrade the fuel tank a bit it becomes a non-issue. Before that it can lead to some very fun game moments where you run out and are stranded at night, so I still like it.

hordes don't respawn at all, but the other zombies and stuff respawn in sparse numbers but it takes awhile. if you die in an area and go back whatever you killed will be dead since they drop stuff you exchange for what passes as currency to buy supplies at the camps.

Don’t you have to constantly refill the fuel? That’s something that was putting me off. Also how bad is weapon durability? That can make or break a zombie game for me

refueling only kinda sucks in early game. you can upgrade your bike tank to where its essentially a non issue.
