Paladin is fun this expansion. It feels really squishy compared to the others in early 80 dungeons though, which is odd since it should be the sturdiest.

personally I like all tanks except paladin.
I like Dark Knight the most by a mile if I'm with a healer I trust at all (TBN's gameplay never loses its luster for me and I like lining up the frontal skillshots), then I enjoy Gunbreaker a lot in theory but find it kind of obnoxious in practice, don't particularly like Warrior but it literally cannot do anything wrong, and Paladin's Requiescat phase is fun but that's literally the only thing I enjoy about it other than healing myself when my glaremage is dead on the floor like the c**t they are.

No, they were always a tank in XIV. In XI it was a DPS so they considered DPS for it but they wanted MCH in the game for lore reasons, so they went with tank DRK based on Tactics instead of DPS DRK based on XI.
DRK in HW was actually the best at mitigating most fights since it had plenty of magic mitigation, great passive mitigation and self heals, and reprisal + delirium, which was more passive raid mitigation than even broken WAR had. It was only recently in EW where they decided to make it the paper tank with high DPS because doing so was easier to balance than actually fixing the job since it just required them to slap a big oGCD nuke with charges and a half dozen "+300 potency" traits on the job and call it a day.

I don't even play ffxiv, got filtered in the trial when I did quests that told me to fetch x of y constantly. I still read these threads but I can feel the autism.
It's easy. You start with o/, then you apply tank stance, then you pull most of a corridor with your ranged attack, your aoes for grps, and your taunt if you miss one in the back, once you get to end of corridor you pop 2-3 defensive cds, and spam aoes to keep threat.
I don't know how you can still be bad at the game when jobs have been dumbed down so much that there's no possible way you can frick up short of just pressing the wrong button entirely. Especially on braindead jobs like SAM or DRG

I played when it was a thing the whole group had to manage with things like smoke screen, diversion, and lucid dreaming because you were a shitter if you expected a tank to sit in tank stance all day.
I was playing the game pre-shadowbringers too and I remember managing TP until you couldn't do anything anymore and switching between tank stance and dps stance, and all those things were absolute garbage. Surely there are better ways for skill expression, like actually challenging content such as the excellent ultimate that we currently have.
Stance dancing was fun and removing it without actually replacing it with anything to do is a core reason ranking and healing is boring as shit right now

Get fricked moron, I loved vanilla WoW's agro management because it struck a nice balance where a DPS who went all out could actually steal agro and severely complicate things, so you had to strike a balance between DPSing fast enough to clear content before your healers started running out of gas and hiding your power level effectively enough to evade notice by the monsters that would knock your ass flat in three seconds.
Without meaningful agro management, there is no need to use your brain in PvE. You just follow a rotation and repeat until the monster is dead.

Threat as a mechanic has always been flawed (very flawed even), but removing it completely is one of the most moronic things MMO devs have ever done.
Something that they should atleast have tried is making it so that threat never builds on any other player that are not in a "tank" unless there are no one in a tank role around and instead threat is decayed instead of built with players under the tank in the threat list always doing a fixed amount of "threat" with each button they press
So instead, it could be something like >Player A is a Tank >Player B is a DPS >Player A pulls the mob and "builds" threat up to 10k >Player B has no attacks or effects that can go over 10k in "threat" and they cannot build up to it either >Player B's abillities are all damage or healing and healing/damage=threat in same amounts >Player A deals less damage while "building" threat but they deal more damage when they are not >Player A can keep track of how close player B is getting to the "edge" of threat so that they know when they need to start maintaining it again >If player B ever goes above the threshold set by player A then they do not immediately get aggro, instead, the enemy might turn towards them and hit them once with a normal attack or mechanic or do nothing until player B has hit some arbitrary limit on how many times he can hit a mob with aggro on someone else before that person loses aggro completely >This arbitrary number is shared with every other player in the group or close by that goes above the threat threshold
This version of Threat has it's own problems, but it puts all of the control on the SINGLE player that wants it (which will be the tank 90% of the time) while everyone else can just ignore it until that person fricks up too many times. This wouldn't work in other MMOs where the roles are more fluid, but in XIV it would change absolutely nothing for players that are not playing Tank but give Tanks something to do instead of being a shittier DPS
Late stormblood aggro would have been fine with a few small tweaks. >plain "reduce personal aggro" effects like diversion and lucid dreaming removed >ranged DPS have a dedicated but weak partywide Diversion role skill, and a targeted threat cut, to enforce their role as supports. This way it's known ahead of time that as a ranged physical DPS you're expected to handle enmity reduction. Both should have long cooldowns and only used for the opener for the partywide skill, or for emergencies like Neo Exdeath's aggro resets for the targeted one >more things that encourage proper play on tanks generating more aggro. Dark Knight is fine in dungeons now (post-60 at least) but your healer just plain won't like you because most don't understand that DRKs often intentionally let themselves "die" now so they can fullheal themselves with Living Dead.
I agree, but it does function before it. Feels like WAR fused with DRG but with no self-healing before they get TBN. After that it still feels that way but it at least feels like it has Royal Guard from Devil May Cry at least.

Hopefully it gets changed into something useful by the next expansion, but the devs spent 4 expansions just to make Living Dead actually useable so I doubt it. It'd be nice if it could perhaps function as a heal state or anything that'll help with actual survivability.

It's pretty rare that you have interactions with freaks. You have to go out of your way. I've got over 1,000 hours and have only had a single person cold whisper me telling me how pretty my character was. I just ignored them. I also don't play on fricking crystal so that might have something to do with it.

This is why I hope that when 7.0 finally comes out that they will make it so that every dungeon can be done using the Duty Support or Trust system.
The best part is when they're a finger-pointing b***h about things like telling you to "pls remember to use defensives" even when you are, but they fail dogshit easy basic mechanics, like running away from people when they get a stack marker, or running towards the boss when they're about to cast a donut/ ring AoE instead of a circle on themself, or using Surecast intelligently against any knockback ever.

That might be a naive question, but is raiding possible with pf groups? I returned to the game recently after a long break and thought I'd give it a try with 6.2. Been raiding all through HW and SB with a static from my old FC but I reached a point where I'd rather keep my evenings flexible and not shackled to a fixed schedule for a god damn game. Give it to me straight, how futile is this?

PF is generally a test of patience. The majority of them will disband after a couple of mistakes, as people would rather leave and hedge their bets the next group is more competent. They rarely are.
Cleared this tier with pf. And I was really late. Took a bunch of weeks. A static is prob going to clear way faster but it's doable. Especially if you do it during prime time and not at the end of the tier like me

Ishikawa personally intervened to frick up DRK. It ties into EW you see, the more you suffer, the stronger your will becomes. DRK players could handle the Final Days with ease at this point.
I'm sure they'll buff DRK, PLD and GNB next patch because they have to balance for challenging multi target fights with the Criterion Savage dungeons. I'm on a bit of copium with this but they also fixed PvP once it became relevant.

personally I like all tanks except paladin.
I like Dark Knight the most by a mile if I'm with a healer I trust at all (TBN's gameplay never loses its luster for me and I like lining up the frontal skillshots), then I enjoy Gunbreaker a lot in theory but find it kind of obnoxious in practice, don't particularly like Warrior but it literally cannot do anything wrong, and Paladin's Requiescat phase is fun but that's literally the only thing I enjoy about it other than healing myself when my glaremage is dead on the floor like the c**t they are.

No, they were always a tank in XIV. In XI it was a DPS so they considered DPS for it but they wanted MCH in the game for lore reasons, so they went with tank DRK based on Tactics instead of DPS DRK based on XI.
DRK in HW was actually the best at mitigating most fights since it had plenty of magic mitigation, great passive mitigation and self heals, and reprisal + delirium, which was more passive raid mitigation than even broken WAR had. It was only recently in EW where they decided to make it the paper tank with high DPS because doing so was easier to balance than actually fixing the job since it just required them to slap a big oGCD nuke with charges and a half dozen "+300 potency" traits on the job and call it a day.

It's easy. You start with o/, then you apply tank stance, then you pull most of a corridor with your ranged attack, your aoes for grps, and your taunt if you miss one in the back, once you get to end of corridor you pop 2-3 defensive cds, and spam aoes to keep threat.
I don't know how you can still be bad at the game when jobs have been dumbed down so much that there's no possible way you can frick up short of just pressing the wrong button entirely. Especially on braindead jobs like SAM or DRG

I played when it was a thing the whole group had to manage with things like smoke screen, diversion, and lucid dreaming because you were a shitter if you expected a tank to sit in tank stance all day.
I was playing the game pre-shadowbringers too and I remember managing TP until you couldn't do anything anymore and switching between tank stance and dps stance, and all those things were absolute garbage. Surely there are better ways for skill expression, like actually challenging content such as the excellent ultimate that we currently have.
Stance dancing was fun and removing it without actually replacing it with anything to do is a core reason ranking and healing is boring as shit right now

Get fricked moron, I loved vanilla WoW's agro management because it struck a nice balance where a DPS who went all out could actually steal agro and severely complicate things, so you had to strike a balance between DPSing fast enough to clear content before your healers started running out of gas and hiding your power level effectively enough to evade notice by the monsters that would knock your ass flat in three seconds.
Without meaningful agro management, there is no need to use your brain in PvE. You just follow a rotation and repeat until the monster is dead.

Threat as a mechanic has always been flawed (very flawed even), but removing it completely is one of the most moronic things MMO devs have ever done.
Something that they should atleast have tried is making it so that threat never builds on any other player that are not in a "tank" unless there are no one in a tank role around and instead threat is decayed instead of built with players under the tank in the threat list always doing a fixed amount of "threat" with each button they press
So instead, it could be something like
>Player A is a Tank
>Player B is a DPS
>Player A pulls the mob and "builds" threat up to 10k
>Player B has no attacks or effects that can go over 10k in "threat" and they cannot build up to it either
>Player B's abillities are all damage or healing and healing/damage=threat in same amounts
>Player A deals less damage while "building" threat but they deal more damage when they are not
>Player A can keep track of how close player B is getting to the "edge" of threat so that they know when they need to start maintaining it again
>If player B ever goes above the threshold set by player A then they do not immediately get aggro, instead, the enemy might turn towards them and hit them once with a normal attack or mechanic or do nothing until player B has hit some arbitrary limit on how many times he can hit a mob with aggro on someone else before that person loses aggro completely
>This arbitrary number is shared with every other player in the group or close by that goes above the threat threshold
This version of Threat has it's own problems, but it puts all of the control on the SINGLE player that wants it (which will be the tank 90% of the time) while everyone else can just ignore it until that person fricks up too many times. This wouldn't work in other MMOs where the roles are more fluid, but in XIV it would change absolutely nothing for players that are not playing Tank but give Tanks something to do instead of being a shittier DPS

Dark Knight is fine in dungeons now (post-60 at least) but your healer just plain won't like you because most don't understand that DRKs often intentionally let themselves "die" now so they can fullheal themselves with Living Dead.
DRK still feels like ass below 70, this class is built entirely around TBN.
I agree, but it does function before it. Feels like WAR fused with DRG but with no self-healing before they get TBN. After that it still feels that way but it at least feels like it has Royal Guard from Devil May Cry at least.
I wish DRK attacks flowed better, even if I got tired of DA-spam when I started during Stormblood.
TBN being so intrinsically tied to the job lore means we'll never get it moved down to a lower level either.
Maybe they can change Dark Mind into something useful during that time period.
I'm honestly surprised Dark Mind hasn't gotten culled at some point, as it stands it's just a vestigial little extra magic damage only cooldown, doesn't synergize with anything.
Hopefully it gets changed into something useful by the next expansion, but the devs spent 4 expansions just to make Living Dead actually useable so I doubt it. It'd be nice if it could perhaps function as a heal state or anything that'll help with actual survivability.
I've been a scholar since HW, it's the most fun for me. Also DNC is the absolute peak of chill off-role jobs.

I've got over 1,000 hours and have only had a single person cold whisper me telling me how pretty my character was. I just ignored them. PF is generally a test of patience. The majority of them will disband after a couple of mistakes, as people would rather leave and hedge their bets the next group is more competent. They rarely are.

PF is fine for unreals/extremes. I don't think it's ever worth the torture for savage raids though unless your group is down enough people to need it.
