yea incredibly disappointing. i thought there'd actually be turn based tactical combat, but the engagements are completely automatic and decided by numbers. incredibly lame. no longer my vanillaware
you just described your average trpg. >tell unit a to go to point x next to unit b >tell unit a to fight unit b >units a and b hash it out
the only difference is units a and b are squads of units instead of individual units. this shouldn't be difficult to understand.
yea incredibly disappointing. i thought there'd actually be turn based tactical combat, but the engagements are completely automatic and decided by numbers. incredibly lame. no longer my vanillaware
wtf are these moronic bait posts? we knew it was like ogre battle the moment we got the first trailer.
A lot of people hadn't seen anything before now tbh. It's not a closely-followed game by everyone. Someone preordered blind in another thread and didn't know. I do the same sometimes with other games.
>Someone preordered blind in another thread and didn't know. I do the same sometimes with other games. >preordering >blind >didn't know
God, I wish you're baiting so bad right now.
>Someone preordered blind in another thread and didn't know.
But why? The game had a trailer. Gameplay videos. Its own website, that's also available in English. And that's ignoring the articles written about the game.
Like I can understand that not everyone follows the game. But if you're intrigued enough to actually order the game. Why would you not look up some of all the available information? Why order it blind completely unnecessarily?
it's not bait, there are tons of people on Ganker who were born AFTER the last Ogre battle game came out. they've never seen this kind of gameplay and have no idea what to compare it to.
>I wasn't expecting something grid based
But it's not.
If we go to 2:34 where the stage starts.
Where are the grids? It starts with unit and formation selection/management, and then it proceeds to the battlefield. Which is not gridbased. And has you issuing individual commands to units with the ability to pause or unpause as the battlefield develops. And since you're choosing both the units, how they're customized, and what formations they're in. In addition to choosing their actions and positions on the battlefield. It's hardly an autobattler either.
Disliking the look of a game is one thing, but at least try to be less blind when you do.
Needs to have a demo, as with any niche genre. Only autists who care about the niche will buy it and we need to make sure the strategic elements are up to snuff.
You don't get a sustained enough view of any one section of combat to get a full understanding of how much strategy is involved. Hopefully it's not just a braindead case of sending your biggest beatsticks out to trounce the enemy with very little thought, but I haven't seen much evidence to the contrary here.
I have to be honest, this put one hell of a damper on my hype. The gameplay seems boring and the visuals aren't nearly as good as othee vanillaware games.
Still buying it because I want to try it out but man.
I hate how they animated the battles. Instead of showing both sides at once they just show one side and the opponent jumps in from off screen, back and forth.
It looks awful.
Looks like Ogre Battle but without any real meaningful improvements to the combat. If you're advertising that you can skip animations, that's not a good thing. Performance looks rough, too. I'll pick it up if they ever decide to port it to PC so I don't have to deal with slowdown and stuttering.
>Looks like Ogre Battle but without any real meaningful improvements to the combat.
I feel this argument would be more valid if the last game in this style wasn’t released 24 years ago.
>would be more valid
The SNES game is 30 years old and this game doesn't seem to improve on it in any meaningful way in terms of the battle system. That's disappointing for anyone who hasn't spent the last 20+ years wishing for more Ogre Battle style games.
Never touched 64, but I'm not sure what that has to do with what I've said outside of you getting mad that I said anything negative about the game and trying to come up with some "defense" of it.

I said this game looks to not improve on the Ogre Battle games in any meaningful way. You got assblasted and asked if I've played them. I said I played the original but not the N64 game and you started shitposting about (you)s because you're a mentally ill shitposter who can only think in terms of meta shitposting, and can't accept the fact that someone might not be excited for that type of gameplay. That's all there is to this. Not every fricking video game thread is some shitposter conspiracy. I've bought and enjoyed plenty of Vanillaware stuff in the past and the gameplay footage for this one didn't really get me excited. You need to reconcile that fact without flying off the handle about how everything is actually shitposters who don't play games ruining threads.

Those are physical copies of their games that I happen to have on hand. I have Odin Sphere buried somewhere, but I'm not digging around for it. I know you're probably not that great at English and have trouble with reading comprehension, but there were 2 Ogre Battle games. One came out on the SNES and one came out on the N64. The fact that they've had ports is irrelevant. If someone asks if I've even played the games and I say I haven't played the N64 game, that means I've played the other one. You can either choose to get mad about how English works and continue to shitpost, or you can try to actually talk about the games. Your call.

except ogre battle isn't VW. it's square. whether you played march of the black queen and 64 has no relation to VW's prior library. this is just a red herring you've tossed in for apparently no reason. once again, you've cooked up some fanfiction in your head and now think that by asking whether you've played march of the black queen and 64, games that VW had nothing to do with, I am somehow attempting to discredit your fandom of VW more generally which I never motioned towards? why did you post a screenshot of your VW collection? why did you even bring it up when it had no bearing on the nature of the conversation?

I love Ganker
You can show it in a trailer or have a button prompt for it on screen. That's different than plastering text across the screen like it's a selling point.
From the gameplay trailer, I can see the game is gonna devolve into fielding doomstacks and auto-resolving every trash mob battle in order to chase the next cutscenes.
I imagine that the people making these accusations see that groups of units act autonomously after you tell them to engage an enemy squad and that makes it an autobattler. realistically, it's not worth taking seriously. symphony of war does something similar but on a grid instead of being real-time and no one's called that an autobattler.
>looks kind of interesting >its not turn-based in both movement and combat
Meh, the girl with big breasts kind of has me interested but the combat isnt to my liking I prefer turn-based
>the battles are automatic, essentially just a glorified cutscene >the actual gameplay is just steering units into enemy units >rest is just a VN
dropped
An auto battler is not an RTS brainlet quite literally the opposite
Auto battlers are notorious phone games so you don't have to do much thinking or strategy at all
RTS with Pause then? Unicorn Overlord's resource management leans toward it.
Here's another gameplay video with earlier fights.
https://news.denfaminicogamer.jp/kikakuthetower/231119a >"Brave", which can be obtained by defeating enemies, is also an important element. These are necessary for the platoon to sortie and to activate the skills of each character, and it is up to the player to decide whether to save them or use them extensively.
Localized as Valor, it's the top-left gauge. You'll see in OP's video (2:51) how they spend 1 Brave to summon a unit and 6:38 the option to spend on Brave Skills.* >Additionally, there is a limit to the number of times each platoon can fight . The number on the top right of the icon is the number of battles you can fight, so before this reaches 0, you need to recover by either "stationing" at bases scattered throughout the stage, or waiting for a certain period of time on the spot and "resting".
You can have 10 units of 5 characters each, and while combat & skill procs are automated,
https://www.famitsu.com/news/202311/20324002.html >Each character has points called "AP" and "PP", which are used to perform techniques such as attacks and recovery. Its actions are determined by a "strategy" action schedule, and it is also possible to set activation priorities and detailed conditions such as "recover when HP is less than half". >When set as a unit leader, a "leader effect" prepared for each companion will be activated. If you're an archer, you'll be able to use ``assist fire,'' which fires arrows at the battles of your allies within range, so the class and companion you select as your leader is also an important factor. >*Although it cannot be activated easily, it has powerful abilities such as "Teleport", which allows you to instantly fly to your own base, "Attract", which forcibly attracts enemy units, and "Arrow Rain", which launches a range attack.
Presentation looks incredible, love the art style for the UI. Was expecting a turn based tactical game though, this is a bit different but I'm still interested
People who are switch only and have weaker rigs will buy this If the reviews are good. I’m not playing DD2 until I get a decent rig to play it to maximize my experience. Although the gameplay of Unicorn looks like shit to me. They should’ve went with something like Tactics Ogre or FFT
Not something I am really interested in but I at least will applaud them for doing what they want even if it's not commercially successful. Frick them for never doing PC ports though.
I genuinely have loved every Vanillware game, even Grimgrimoire, but this game does not feel like a Vanillaware game. It barely looks like one. Seems more like an indie title emulating the studios art style.
Not my type of game but maybe I end up liking it like after trying FE for the first time, Grimgrimoire didn't do it for me but I'll give it another try in the future.
>rent Ogre Battle 64 as a kid just cause of the box art >first encounter with a tactical game of its nature >get quickly frustrated and return it >weeks later rent it again cause stubborn, this time everything clicks and I just get it
I've been craving anything, ANYTHING that plays even REMOTELY similar to the Ogre Battle series. I love everything about 64, I love the graphics, I love the music, I love the characters, I love Matsuno's typical "start out as rookies fighting the rebels, eventually join the rebels" that he does for every fricking game he touches.
This looks so good. I'm frustrated as hell that theres an Xbox version but no PC, that's absolutely braindead.
I love vanillaware, Muramasa is a top 10 for me. Never got around to 13 Sentinels though. I'm a poorgay with just a Switch lite but I'll definitely be playing this one way or another.
you will end disappointed
i have similar experience with Tactics Ogre - bought PSP just for it(only original PSP game I bought) and it was massive let down
more like lets us bloat together
it was massive upgrade in terms of story telling and visuals but whole system get bloated and don't even mention class level ups or grinding skills, mmo tier itemization and crafting
Vanillaware should just hire Keizo in a director's position and let him direct the Astlibra sequel, otherwise Vanillaware is stuck making vn's for eternity.
>People shit on FF16 for doing away with turn based combat (in place of being an actual video game). >People losing their shit over auto-battler type game with virtually zero in game decision making.
I get a happy middle ground can exist, but it seems like it's never going to happen outside of FromSoft RPGs and the shitty ones of them.
It's so genuinely hurtful that Atlus took Vanillaware and purged Kamitani's glorious style in favour of churning out the most generic animu crap possible. >muh high schoolers with cliche personalities >muh bargain bin Yoshida generic fantasy
Let me guess, Tokyo slice of life is next.
Stylistically it's similar to Princess Crown, even if that game predates Vanillaware. But more than that, it's very similar to Grand Knights History.
Why act like it's got no Vanillaware style or DNA?
Do you have similar views on all the past Vanillaware games with artists other than Kamitani?
The only thing similar to GKH is that it's medieval fantasy, has combat grids and there's an overworld map, everything else is different, including the aesthetics.

>everything else is different, including the aesthetics.
I suppose the proportions aren't quite the same. GKH's limbs are a bit lankier and the heads a bit larger. But overall I really wouldn't call them dissimilar. And Grand Kingdom, if we were to count it, is somehow even more similar.
Do you actually think the comparison. In terms of stylization. Is unwarranted?
GKH isn't different just in terms of proportions, which are more classic Vanillaware style with beeline waists and more SD proportions, the general art design is different, even when it comes to colours GKH is more saturated and upbeat.
Grand Kingdom is also visually closer to GKH than it is to UO, though the proportions are not as deformed and the faces are completely different because Kamitani wasn't the character design.
UO feels really stylistically subdued overall outside of the monsters, which are classic VW from what we've seen so far, but they're also fairly less cartoony compared to the other VW games, like the other anon said it really feels like Atlus suits forced Kamitani to play it safe and avoid any sort of controversy.
it's doesn't look like it's made by kamitani, because it isn't. the game's a backburner project by an amateur that's been with VW for a long time. said amateur is the director, artist, and programmer simultaneously.

You mean in regards to art since it's his lead artist debut? Or what?
He is an industry veteran that has worked a decade at Nintendo and a decade at Vanillaware. Amateur isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe him.
>is different
Yes. The word was similar, not the same.
Princess Crown is different from GKH and UO too. Each individual game of these three is different from the other two.
But excuse me if I still think they're similar.
Which is not something I'd say for like Dragon's Crown or Odin's Sphere or whatever. And those were medieval too.

2 decades as a code monkey doesn't make you any less of a greenhorn in terms of art or directing. if you work in a workshop that does C&C and welding as a C&C technician for 8 years and you suddenly take up welding, you're an amateur welder no matter how much of an "industry veteran" you are.

Makes sense, this game clearly lacks George's energy at multiple levels, from the visual style to the innuendo.
eh, I don’t know how to feel about the gameplay. It’s not like usual grid-based trpgs but I don’t like just picking a formation instead of an individual unit and directing them to automatically run up to an enemy and watch a cutscene. Maybe I’m just not used to this style of gameplay but something isn’t right.

Not sold, Ogre Battle games were ass to actually play and Vanillaware doesn't have the designers to do better nor the writers to make more interesting characters and campaigns, none of their games were anywhere above average in terms of gameplay or writing and this kind of game needs both to be good.
Worst thing is the designs, they're really, really bad this time around to the point it's hard to believe it's actually Vanillaware, even Monochrome, which is an offshoot of former Vanillaware employee, managed to make something less generic looking than this.
I really just wanted GKH 2 but it's just not happening.
You customize individual units. Then you group them together into formations of your choice. And then you decide their actions, positions, and paths on the battlefield. With options for various map skills.
It seems.
>Gameplay looks like shit >World map graphic looks like shit
Only good thing this game has is 2d animated scene which is all auto battle
After this game bombed, they should reuse those asset to make gacha game
No, but I want to play game with beautiful vanillaware graphic
Instead all gameplay is in overworld with mid 3d pixel graphic
While all beautiful vanillaware art is only in skippable auto combat and cutscene
What are they thinking making their studio selling point, the graphic, a skippable scene?
Looks like a Mystery Dungeon type deal, but with something more like Disgaea combat and free movement outside combat instead of the Roguelike gameplay of an actual MD game. Plus some social links and drink crafting. Might be good, if done well.
Those games (DC especially) are way more fantastical. This is a more grounded game, so the characters reflect that. Sorceress would be very out of place here.

The designs of the characters are nice and everything, but I think it's going to fall into being able to recruit loads of characters, but then them not really having any real screentime or story moments.

Well I only play vanillaware games for graphic not genre, they are all average gameplaywise anyways
And for this game, they're only putting the vanillaware graphic in the autobattling and cutscene so you're left playing average game with average retro 3d pixel graphic
It's just me and it might sound schizo but honestly, i feel like this place is filled with Korean shill brigade considering the fact that Ganker strangely didn't tear Lies of P apart like the other average souls clone and we all know how much asiatics love to seethe at those Nip Monkeys but hey, that's just me
most "pc gamers" are on dogshit rigs that would have a rough time emulating 3ds games let alone running yuzu at a steady framerate. that's just the reality of it.
I said doomstacks with s, Black person.
you mean the doomstacks you can't even form? every squad shown in the footage had heavily restricted unit limits. every game of this sort that allows you to form deathballs has you fighting similarly sized enemy squads by the time you get to that point. this was my experience from ogre battle and symphony of war which are the closest analogues to this game.
>auto battling
I'm confused with what anons mean by this? Isn't fire emblem just "auto battle" then? You move the unit close in and they battle. How is this different?
I didn't watch the trailer yet. Only the first one
Nowadays I am kind of 66% PC and 33% Switch in terms of what platforms I play on.
But unless something is later revealed to be severely wrong with the Switch version. Is there really any reason to not to get the game on the Switch?
I don't know about the game but Ganker is the worst festering shithole on this site.
Irrelevant, fanboyism and shit taste, if I want to know about good games I'll have more luck asking grandmas on the street.
Fricking Ogre Battle is fun Black folk. But all you want is them to rehash the same tired shit year in and year out. Why fricking From is stuck making Souls shit until the end of time.
The more generic and less kamitani extravagant the characters become the less I'm interested in whatever Vanillaware decided to put out. Hope they find success as an atlus factory for inoffensive, zero personality anime slop.
>UNICORN >OVERLORD
i really expected to not fall asleep when clicking that trailer but the riceBlack folk never fail to impress with the same same dull same shit same same
>Alpha Centauri >Civ 3 >UFO Defense & TFtD >Brood War >Diablo 2 >WC3 & FT >Rainbow Six >HL, CS1.6 and TF Classic >AoE2 >BG1&2 >NWN >FO1&2 >Daggerfall & Morrowind >Duke Nukem 3D >Red Alert 2 >GTA:VC
But of course, you homosexuals were too busy creaming to FF7 or Chrono Trigger back then.
Well, I almost always enjoy VW games, but still wish the next one would be like Muramasa.
Still the trailer looks promising, but I'm a bit concerned about if the whole game would boil down to turtling with a huge group and just aggroing enemies one by one.
I don't get the doom posters:
Looks like a better version of an NDS RTS.
Clashes are pretty much 3vs3 Fire Emblem action.
Just give it a weapon polyhedron or some interesting passives so it can be better than Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.
Being absolutely baffled at the majority of this thread not understanding what a SRPG/Tactical RPG is like. Am I really reading posts that are wondering why you can't manually control units during a fight in a game like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics?
>Vanillaware's take on Ogre Battle

Yes, that is how TRPGs usually work.
you just described your average trpg.
>tell unit a to go to point x next to unit b

>units a and b hash it out
the only difference is units a and b are squads of units instead of individual units. this shouldn't be difficult to understand.

it's not bait, there are tons of people on Ganker who were born AFTER the last Ogre battle game came out. they've never seen this kind of gameplay and have no idea what to compare it to.
Reading comprehension, anon.
>I wasn't expecting something grid based, BUT
i.e.he was expecting it to be something unconventional from the traditional tactics grid, but thinks it looks bad
He's a homosexual and has shit taste of course, but you misunderstood what he said
That is clear as day to me now. But I'll blame my lack of sleep. And now I'll just disappear for a while and stew in my shame.
Maybe vanillaware's gameplay key staff retired
I really didn't want another VN type game with minimal gameplay
Yeah, its 13 sentinels all over again.
Gorgeous character design wasted in some cheap looking game
Is there (or will there be) a version with English text?
My god it’s Vanillaware Ogre Battle 64!
I want it!
>that artstyle
>that comfy music
Kino is back on the menu gents
Needs to have a demo, as with any niche genre. Only autists who care about the niche will buy it and we need to make sure the strategic elements are up to snuff.
You don't get a sustained enough view of any one section of combat to get a full understanding of how much strategy is involved. Hopefully it's not just a braindead case of sending your biggest beatsticks out to trounce the enemy with very little thought, but I haven't seen much evidence to the contrary here.
>big titty women serving you intricate food
NOW it's a proper vanillaware game
I have to be honest, this put one hell of a damper on my hype. The gameplay seems boring and the visuals aren't nearly as good as othee vanillaware games.
Still buying it because I want to try it out but man.
It’s very funny watching zoomers who probably rave about old games gameplay run into actual old game gameplay.
I'm 30, I'm just used to grid based like FFT, TO and FE. Never played an ogre battle.
So go play Ogre Battle. It's fun.
no one cares you blogging homosexual
Cared enough to reply
I cared enough about exposing a blogging homosexual for being a blogging homosexual
you exposed yourself
well done homosexual
>seething for 3 hours
blogsisters…
The last game in that style came out when you were like 6 zoomer.
Calm down gramps, it's just a video game.
>Vanillaware
>SRPG
I don't even need to watch the trailer. The title alone already sold me on the game.
dear god, how you homosexuals put yourselves to play that crap. All the 'awesome' fanart for you to play with fricking chibi the whole game.
You have to be over 18 years old to post here.
I like the ogre battle gameplay though.
I hate how they animated the battles. Instead of showing both sides at once they just show one side and the opponent jumps in from off screen, back and forth.
It looks awful.
You’ll upset some people by saying that.
Not a fan of that as well
Yup didn't like that as well.
That's disappointing for anyone who hasn't spent the last 20+ years wishing for more Ogre Battle style games.
so you've played march of the black queen and person of lordly caliber?
Never touched 64, but I'm not sure what that has to do with what I've said outside of you getting mad that I said anything negative about the game and trying to come up with some "defense" of it.
going on the defensive and characterizing others as mad the moment you're prodded isn't conducive to discussion. evidently, discussion isn't why (you)'re here. if you just want to farm (you)s the coomer thread's down the hall and to the right.
>going on the defensive and characterizing others as mad the moment you're prodded isn't conducive to discussion.
Okay then why did you do that?
>discussion isn't why (you)'re here. if you just want to farm (you)s
have a nice day, you stupid shitposter.
I asked if you played the games and you immediately went on the defensive. you're either mindbroken or baiting. engaging with you is useless.
>I asked if you played the games and you immediately went on the defensive
One the anon was talking about the ogre battle games
Two you showed two games out of a library of like 10
>One the anon was talking about the ogre battle games
And I answered his question directly
>Never touched 64
>Two you showed two games out of a library of like 10
Those are physical copies of their games that I happen to have on hand. I have Odin Sphere buried somewhere, but I'm not digging around for it. The point is that I actually play Vanillaware games no matter how much anon wants to pretend anyone who says the new trailer looks disappointing is just here to shitpost.
>so long as you've worked this fanfiction
It's not fanfiction. You got mad. When you can't stay on topic and instead try to steer the conversation to meta shitposting like you did here
it's because you're angry. You can say that you're being the reasonable one over and over again but it won't make it true.
>totally not an assmad seething homosexual btw
>totally not a moronic underage shitposter btw
>no u
it’s over…
Never touched N64 didn’t answer the question moron, there was two games there and neither of them were exclusive to N64
>Never touched N64 didn’t answer the question moron
I know you're probably not that great at English and have trouble with reading comprehension, but there were 2 Ogre Battle games. One came out on the SNES and one came out on the N64. The fact that they've had ports is irrelevant. If someone asks if I've even played the games and I say I haven't played the N64 game, that means I've played the other one. You can either choose to get mad about how English works and continue to shitpost, or you can try to actually talk about the games. Your call.
If you had actually played one then you would have said so shitbrains
>The point is that I actually play Vanillaware games no matter how much anon wants to pretend anyone who says the new trailer looks disappointing is just here to shitpost.
except ogre battle isn't VW. it's square. whether you played march of the black queen and 64 has no relation to VW's prior library. this is just a red herring you've tossed in for apparently no reason. once again, you've cooked up some fanfiction in your head and now think that by asking whether you've played march of the black queen and 64, games that VW had nothing to do with, I am somehow attempting to discredit your fandom of VW more generally which I never motioned towards? why did you post a screenshot of your VW collection? why did you even bring it up when it had no bearing on the nature of the conversation?
>except ogre battle isn't VW. it's square
Never pretended otherwise. Stop trying to steer the conversation into your meta shitposting. Everyone knows what the Vanillaware games are and everyone knows what the Matsuno games are.
>this is just a red herring you've tossed in for apparently no reason. once again, you've cooked up some fanfiction
You're mentally ill. You can have another reply if you can actually talk about the games instead of trying to meta shitpost.
>I am somehow attempting to discredit your fandom of VW more generally which I never motioned towards?
Nice try, but I read the thread before I posted. I can see the arguments and accusations that are happening, so skip the part where you pretend you haven't been calling people shitposters who don't play the games.
Learn English, ESLgay.
>still having a full blown schizophrenic meltdown
kek
>Nice try, but I read the thread before I posted. I can see the arguments and accusations that are happening, so skip the part where you pretend you haven't been calling people shitposters who don't play the games.
ah so you're not baiting, but simply schizophrenic. would you like me to highlight all my posts in this thread so you can have another melty? utterly useless.
Answering “did you experience these two things” with “I didn’t experience third thing” isn’t how English or any language works.
>“did you experience these two things” with “I didn’t experience third thing”
>third thing
Please, please learn English.
it’s time to log off sis…
It's time to familiarize yourself with the series you shitpost about.
nta but person of lordly caliber is alternatively referred to as ogre battle 64, because it was on the N64 and the official title is rather long.
Yes, but at this point it’s not exclusive to N64, it was on the Wii VC. So saying you never touched an N64 doesn’t answer the question he was posed.
>So saying you never touched an N64
>Never touched 64
I'm begging you, please learn English. It'll help hide your stupidity when you argue here.
The only people who get this mad about the English language are actual ESL.
classic troony meltdown bro
>You got assblasted
there it is again. engaging with you is useless, as I said. so long as you've worked this fanfiction into your head honest conversations will be beyond you.
i played them
and don't see how this new one is better in anything than looks
it already looks a lot better in terms of unit variety.
>spent the last 20+ years wishing for more Ogre Battle style games.
So me?
>If you're advertising that you can skip animations, that's not a good thing.
>they don't show that you can skip them or mention it at all before release
>every thread about the game becomes "LOL ENJOY WAITING 100 HOURS SHIT GAME SLOP SLOP SLOP"
I love Ganker
You can show it in a trailer or have a button prompt for it on screen. That's different than plastering text across the screen like it's a selling point.
Is the narrator Aizen's voice actor?
Day one buy
This is what passes as SRPG these days. If I'm in the mood for a war epic, I might as well as replay FFT or the recently released TO:Reborn.
>these days
This style is older than FFT and Ogre Battle
so glad this is multiplat so we won't have snoys pretending the rest of us are missing out on this absolute slop this time around
it looks bad if I'm being honest
Looks like a mobile gacha.
From the gameplay trailer, I can see the game is gonna devolve into fielding doomstacks and auto-resolving every trash mob battle in order to chase the next cutscenes.
not really. stamina will always hold you back from engagements so you can't just have 1 doomstack handle every battle.
I said doomstacks with s, Black person.
>autobattler garbage
I'll just go back to TWW2 for my doses of fantasy warfare instead of wasting my time playing discount RTS, no thanks
reminds me very much of the last remnant, which I also enjoyed
and that one didn't have big tiddy anime girls all over the place
It's not like the last remnant at all
I would buy 10 copies of any game that has combat like the last remnant
I don't get it. How is
in any way auto battling? You control units like in any other strategy game.
I imagine that the people making these accusations see that groups of units act autonomously after you tell them to engage an enemy squad and that makes it an autobattler. realistically, it's not worth taking seriously. symphony of war does something similar but on a grid instead of being real-time and no one's called that an autobattler.
the battles are immediately decided on contact, you have zero influence on battles. Like blue archive pvp
Or you know, fricking any strategy game? Fire Emblem? AW?
The strategy comes from what you do before attack declaration.
It seems like trying to be a lot of things and not good at any of them.
>tranimal avatar
not like this shitcordtrooners…
It’s not trying anything, it’s using an established gameplay style
Holy shit that gameplay is disappoint. Why not make something like Gran knights story or Grand Kingdom?
because it cheaper and less taxing on a tablet
>looks kind of interesting
>its not turn-based in both movement and combat
Meh, the girl with big breasts kind of has me interested but the combat isnt to my liking I prefer turn-based
moron
>battles are full auto and you can skip them
prettiest mobile game I've ever seen at least
>game was announced
>looks interesting
>am interested
I don't need to see any trailers, I'm getting this.
This. Use the development time making the game instead of trailers.
>game already confirmed to be censored and butchered by troonslators
Sadly, it's a pass for me. I'm still mad with Engage.
source?
Looks wicked.
Just play it in Japanese.
holy shit it's ogre battle what the frick
Unicorn overlord? More like Unborn Ignored
>the battles are automatic, essentially just a glorified cutscene
>the actual gameplay is just steering units into enemy units
>rest is just a VN
dropped
Have you ever heard of RTS
An auto battler is not an RTS brainlet quite literally the opposite
Auto battlers are notorious phone games so you don't have to do much thinking or strategy at all
yea? and they called the game "the return of trpg"
there are also games like cookie clicker and yet that doesn't justify the existence of such a genre
>RTS
>You can stop time and plan out your next moves
Looks like a gridless TRPG with constantly moving units and allies you can summon mid-mission.
RTS with Pause then? Unicorn Overlord's resource management leans toward it.
Here's another gameplay video with earlier fights.
https://news.denfaminicogamer.jp/kikakuthetower/231119a
>"Brave", which can be obtained by defeating enemies, is also an important element. These are necessary for the platoon to sortie and to activate the skills of each character, and it is up to the player to decide whether to save them or use them extensively.
Localized as Valor, it's the top-left gauge. You'll see in OP's video (2:51) how they spend 1 Brave to summon a unit and 6:38 the option to spend on Brave Skills.*
>Additionally, there is a limit to the number of times each platoon can fight . The number on the top right of the icon is the number of battles you can fight, so before this reaches 0, you need to recover by either "stationing" at bases scattered throughout the stage, or waiting for a certain period of time on the spot and "resting".
You can have 10 units of 5 characters each, and while combat & skill procs are automated,
https://www.famitsu.com/news/202311/20324002.html
>Each character has points called "AP" and "PP", which are used to perform techniques such as attacks and recovery.
That dead genre nobody actually likes or plays?
I like it and play it
comparing this crap to real RTS classics is a travesty
A shit game carried by its artsyle. The genre kept to PC for a good reason.
>release on a console nobody owns instead for steam
moronic dev/publisher
pc gays stay mad. go buy a switch Black person.
I just wish they would release another action game already.
Not sure honestly, I've never played something similar.
Looks really good though, even when compared to their other games.
>have games with fun gameplay in Muramasa, Odin Sphere, and Dragon's Crown
>everything madeafter is just glorified VNs
why
Grimgrimoire came out before all of these and was a "glorified vn" they've been doing it, and it filters morons like you
ah yes, people liking games for gameplay just get "filtered" by vns
Looks good to me
Go look up Ogre Battle 64 gameplay, looks like the closest parallel.
I gotta play the damn game now, I've had a copy from like 2005 on the back burner.
Definite purchase, but I still think Dragons Crown will remain my favourite.
Presentation looks incredible, love the art style for the UI. Was expecting a turn based tactical game though, this is a bit different but I'm still interested
I hope we get a canon yuri muscle girl
Same day with Dragon's Dogma 2 if the rumor is real, I'm sorry...
Don't think it will have much impact either way tbh. I have no interest in DD2 for example. Largely disparate audiences.
I'm interest in this but if I must choose one...still buying but not day one
Fair enough tbh. The game won't disappear anyway.
People who are switch only and have weaker rigs will buy this If the reviews are good. I’m not playing DD2 until I get a decent rig to play it to maximize my experience. Although the gameplay of Unicorn looks like shit to me. They should’ve went with something like Tactics Ogre or FFT
>They should’ve went with something like Tactics Ogre or FFT
there are a bazillion shovelware fft clones. it's an oversaturated market.
>NOOOO IT SHOULD BE LIKE GENERIC TACTICS RPG NO. 576292917
get ahold of yourself you moronic Black person
I have 5 FFT Ogre Battle clones in my backlog right now I don’t need another one.
>ogre battle
Tactics ogre, my bad
I'll be pirating Unicorn Overlord on ryujinx and purchasing DD2 on Steam. Simple as.
I wish I could play their games on PC without having to emulate.
Not something I am really interested in but I at least will applaud them for doing what they want even if it's not commercially successful. Frick them for never doing PC ports though.
Nice
Not Vanillaware big...yet.
Also, i wonder how the special edition card game will play.
These are all
desperately trying to salvage the hype after that disappointing gameplay reveal
Am I the only one that got more hyped from seeing gameplay from my teens that I finally get to experience fresh again?
The girls in this game are great
Going from Dragon's Crown to this is nothing short of tragic.
Dragons crown is mid level vanillaware and I’m tired of pretending like it isn’t.
>Hating on the best love letter towards the best beat-em-up ever made
I have never seen a worse take then this.
Calling a game from a company that has only produced good to amazing games mid in relation to their games isn’t hating homosexual.
you clearly never played anything else released by them. odin sphere takes dragons crown to the pavement and beats it up like it owns it money
The game isn't mid, it's pure garbage
is this AI art?
Al who? did he work on any other game?
generic isekai fantasy design
she cute.
Vanillaware should just make a dating sim unironically
bonus points if they get the same american translators as 13 sentinels, now everyone's a train
Even if this game is shit, I will still support Vanillaware cause they made 13 Sentinel which is one of my favorite games ever.
Even vanillawares bottom games are better than most current games too.
>Finally getting a new Ogre Battle-style game
>From Vanillaware, no less
>No PC version due to autism
Don’t you guys have ps5/switch?
They're even releasing an XBOX version. The anti-PC autism at Vanillaware is nuts.
The switch version is on pc
No it isn't. Nintendo doesn't sell games on Steam. =^)
Actually based. PC ucks need to be knocked off their pedestal from time to time.
>ogre battle but will actually designed with modern sensibilities so you won't need a guide to avoid a bad ending
>rent Ogre Battle 64 as a kid just cause of the box art
>first encounter with a tactical game of its nature
>get quickly frustrated and return it
>weeks later rent it again cause stubborn, this time everything clicks and I just get it
I've been craving anything, ANYTHING that plays even REMOTELY similar to the Ogre Battle series.
Ogre Battle 64 was the first game I ever preordered, saved up my allowance for weeks to put a down payment at EB
you will end disappointed
i have similar experience with Tactics Ogre - bought PSP just for it(only original PSP game I bought) and it was massive let down
Dumb take.
There's enough gameplay videos and trailers to see. If you like Ogre Battle, you'll like this. They frankly look 99% identical
>lets us cling together
>massive disappointment
The taste on this site is so fricking bad
more like lets us bloat together
it was massive upgrade in terms of story telling and visuals but whole system get bloated and don't even mention class level ups or grinding skills, mmo tier itemization and crafting
Get better taste my dude
I already have one, better than yours for sure
>I already have one, better than yours for sure
yeah a taste of a mans butthole LMAOOO
>t. seething troony
get real
>troony
Oh you are a child.
>t. child molester
>t. shit eater
nobody wants to hear about your undying love for the taste of men’s buttholes xir
stop projecting you homosexual
why are you even like this?
brainrot? too much fast food with feces? being mixed blood?
>t. man butthole breath
>t. man butthole enjoyer
Vanillaware should just hire Keizo in a director's position and let him direct the Astlibra sequel, otherwise Vanillaware is stuck making vn's for eternity.
>vanillaware
no need for a trailer
I WILL NOW BUY YOUR GAME
>but! but! it's shit!
don't care trannies... cope seethe dilate idc
>no pc
Okay frick you then.
>People shit on FF16 for doing away with turn based combat (in place of being an actual video game).
>People losing their shit over auto-battler type game with virtually zero in game decision making.
I get a happy middle ground can exist, but it seems like it's never going to happen outside of FromSoft RPGs and the shitty ones of them.
>auto-battler type game with virtually zero in game decision making
What game are you talking about?
Honkai Star Rail
Fromsoft does not make RPGs.
The constant back and forth makes me dizzy. Horrible design choice. I don't think I would get used to it. This is stupid.
The constant cuts to different units in fights is throwing me off too. They should have just pulled the camera back so we can see everyone
looks fun, can't wait to play on my switch
no PC - forgotten next day
The gameplay looks really simplistic, I'm not sold. Pity I could have used a new TRPG
It's so genuinely hurtful that Atlus took Vanillaware and purged Kamitani's glorious style in favour of churning out the most generic animu crap possible.
>muh high schoolers with cliche personalities
>muh bargain bin Yoshida generic fantasy
Let me guess, Tokyo slice of life is next.
Stylistically it's similar to Princess Crown, even if that game predates Vanillaware. But more than that, it's very similar to Grand Knights History.
Why act like it's got no Vanillaware style or DNA?
Do you have similar views on all the past Vanillaware games with artists other than Kamitani?
The only thing similar to GKH is that it's medieval fantasy, has combat grids and there's an overworld map, everything else is different, including the aesthetics.
it’s just the usual doom posting homosexuals that infest every thread
whoops meant for
>everything else is different, including the aesthetics.
UO feels really stylistically subdued overall outside of the monsters, which are classic VW from what we've seen so far, but they're also fairly less cartoony compared to the other VW games, like the other anon said it really feels like Atlus suits forced Kamitani to play it safe and avoid any sort of controversy.
it's doesn't look like it's made by kamitani, because it isn't. the game's a backburner project by an amateur that's been with VW for a long time. said amateur is the director, artist, and programmer simultaneously.
>by an amateur
You mean in regards to art since it's his lead artist debut? Or what?
He is an industry veteran that has worked a decade at Nintendo and a decade at Vanillaware. Amateur isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe him.
>is different
Yes. The word was similar, not the same.
Princess Crown is different from GKH and UO too. Each individual game of these three is different from the other two.
But excuse me if I still think they're similar.
Which is not something I'd say for like Dragon's Crown or Odin's Sphere or whatever. And those were medieval too.
Princess Crown is stylistically way more similar to GKH than UO.
for reference kamitani even said that what he's got cooking right now won't be out for some time and that he's not the director for their next release(this was stated at the time 13 sentinels came out).
the guy worked for VW as a programmer exclusively. it's both his artistic and directorial debut.
>the guy worked for VW as a programmer exclusively. it's both his artistic and directorial debut.
So you did just mean it in reference to the art, and his position as the director. I was just wondering since calling an industry veteran with decades of experience an amateur just sounded very odd to me.
2 decades as a code monkey doesn't make you any less of a greenhorn in terms of art or directing. if you work in a workshop that does C&C and welding as a C&C technician for 8 years and you suddenly take up welding, you're an amateur welder no matter how much of an "industry veteran" you are.
>2 decades as a code monkey doesn't make you any less of a greenhorn in terms of art or directing
No I don't disagree. But you didn't specify in your initial post.
Maybe I’m just not used to this style of gameplay but something isn’t right.
>but something isn’t right
It’s called you’re an autistic homosexual and there is no cure…
anon, the devs aren’t gonna frick you.
keep seething discordtroony kek
Why are you so mad?
>t. seething discordtroony
what does my gender identity have to do with this?
because you’re a mentally ill homosexual and need to have a nice day
>gives opinion on footage without belittling anyone
>reacts by screaming about discord and trannies
Get help anon. The game isn’t out yet, opinions can’t hurt you.
>literally seething and can’t stop replying
discordtroony xisters…
I think it's not on pc so i don't really care.
>if it was released on pc it'd have denuvo that never gets removed so I still don't care
oh don't get me wrong, it LOOKS nice, but it'll probably run like shit on the switch.
Even the random NPCs are super cute
>What did you think?
Not sold, Ogre Battle games were ass to actually play and Vanillaware doesn't have the designers to do better nor the writers to make more interesting characters and campaigns, none of their games were anywhere above average in terms of gameplay or writing and this kind of game needs both to be good.
Worst thing is the designs, they're really, really bad this time around to the point it's hard to believe it's actually Vanillaware, even Monochrome, which is an offshoot of former Vanillaware employee, managed to make something less generic looking than this.
I really just wanted GKH 2 but it's just not happening.
Am i missing something or you don't control the flow of battles directly, it's just characters going on auto-battles?
>Am i missing something
around 100 IQ points
You customize individual units. Then you group them together into formations of your choice. And then you decide their actions, positions, and paths on the battlefield. With options for various map skills.
It seems.
>griffin rider with massive breasts
>that
>massive
We really need to see the spell casters first and also, npc who will never join us.
>Gameplay looks like shit
>World map graphic looks like shit
Only good thing this game has is 2d animated scene which is all auto battle
After this game bombed, they should reuse those asset to make gacha game
>which is all auto battle
Is chess auto battle because pieces colliding doesn't load some kind of 1on1 fighting game?
No, but I want to play game with beautiful vanillaware graphic
Instead all gameplay is in overworld with mid 3d pixel graphic
While all beautiful vanillaware art is only in skippable auto combat and cutscene
What are they thinking making their studio selling point, the graphic, a skippable scene?
>What are they thinking making their studio selling point, the graphic, a skippable scene?
It works for SRW.
Terrible name
No steam no buy
How do you guys feel about the new Nippon Ichi game?
Oh shit they finally released a trailer for it. If the labyrinth series writer actually works on this it's gonna be actual kino it looks like
Who
The Disgaea guys.
Are they still any good? 5 and 6 didn't seem to get received particularly well.
Soul nomad is still my favorite so I'm not really their audience too.
I don't play modern Disgaea so I dunno. This new game looked interesting.
Looks like a Mystery Dungeon type deal, but with something more like Disgaea combat and free movement outside combat instead of the Roguelike gameplay of an actual MD game. Plus some social links and drink crafting. Might be good, if done well.
>another persona-like
My only major grip is how tame the designs are.
I was expecting some Dragon's Crown or Odin's Sphere tier sexo. This is about as mild as your average western release.
Odin Sphere designs were tame aside from like 2 characters
I miss queen ghost breasts, mistress of framerate.
Those games (DC especially) are way more fantastical. This is a more grounded game, so the characters reflect that. Sorceress would be very out of place here.
The coloring isn't as good as in their other games
>game turns out to be an autobattler
>shills try to drown out voices of dissent and concerns by spamming, "L-look at these cute random waifu! H-holy sexo, amiright haha"
>avatargaygin troonycorder having a meltdown
epic
>look ma, I'm shitposting!
>No PC
damn.
Chances of this cleric looking lady being a major character?
zero percent
I want those hips to birth my children
>blue
She'll be one of the recruitable generics since her head's not covered.
>Atlus
>now he’s mass replying
DISCORD XISTERS PLZ RESPOND!!!1!1!
Overrated dev and wiener gobbling fanbase is not a good combination
It's not like I find haters or people who disappointed unexpected. I expected it.
But I still find it odd how yesterday's thread about this video had almost none of it and this thread is full of it.
What happened between then and now? Just a coincidence?
I think Ganker kiddies didn't actually know how ogre battle played and they were just excited over the graphics.
I feel like the people most excited about this game in the first place was because they knew it was ogre battle 1:1 from the announcement trailer
Other than that most threads were kept alive by shitposters trying to pull another 13 sentinels again
@658192913
>people see cute girls
>people post cute girls
>autistic motherfricker considers it a personal attack
A classic
Not even worth a (you), shitstain
Find a new hobby
>no ps4 special edition
switch it is then
Hope it gets a demo.
Never played ogre battle so i would like to get a feel of it.
just post the fluffy girl already please
I'm a beta tester and game sucks.
It's literally a chinese gacha, but without gacha.
Not even shitposting, the auto-battle aspect has me on the fence now. It's crazy because this was basically the only thing I was looking forwards to and now it's like...I dunno.
I'm gonna need to see more or for someone to sell me on the appeal.
Cringe zoomer
The designs of the characters are nice and everything, but I think it's going to fall into being able to recruit loads of characters, but then them not really having any real screentime or story moments.
>all these reddit spacing doomposts
really makes me think
>Doomposting over TRPG gameplay
What the hell Ganker ?
ever since elden ring mind broke them they do it for almost every new game except triple western shit since they can’t be contrarian homosexual in those threads
Ganker legit hates everything at this point but fricking souls games.
notice how the discord troony shazam nugger got called out and immediately tried to shift console warring to fromsoft games.
Take notes newfriends, next they’ll bring up tendies
reddit normies flooded Ganker like usual and hate on everything that isnt soulsborne.
Well I only play vanillaware games for graphic not genre, they are all average gameplaywise anyways
And for this game, they're only putting the vanillaware graphic in the autobattling and cutscene so you're left playing average game with average retro 3d pixel graphic
It's just me and it might sound schizo but honestly, i feel like this place is filled with Korean shill brigade considering the fact that Ganker strangely didn't tear Lies of P apart like the other average souls clone and we all know how much asiatics love to seethe at those Nip Monkeys but hey, that's just me
This thread shows just how petty PC gamers actually are
Every PC gamer can use yuzu...
most "pc gamers" are on dogshit rigs that would have a rough time emulating 3ds games let alone running yuzu at a steady framerate. that's just the reality of it.
you mean the doomstacks you can't even form? every squad shown in the footage had heavily restricted unit limits. every game of this sort that allows you to form deathballs has you fighting similarly sized enemy squads by the time you get to that point. this was my experience from ogre battle and symphony of war which are the closest analogues to this game.
What the frick bros. Why is it autobattling??
So, we pretend that Fire Emblem never existed ?
grand knight history 2.0 nothing new under the sun
This game is nothing like GKH, why do 99.9% of Ganker posters still refuse to shut the frick up when they haven nothing of value to say?
oof someone is really salty about the truth. Go back to the reddit echo chamber
Suck my wiener dumb cotton picker
>Vanillaware's hateboner for PC continues as they rather port for a system that no weeb owns
Amazing
>auto battling
I'm confused with what anons mean by this? Isn't fire emblem just "auto battle" then? You move the unit close in and they battle. How is this different?
I didn't watch the trailer yet. Only the first one
it’s the new troonycord buzzword you’ll see spammed for month possibly years
>not coming to PC
biggest disappointment of the year
Nowadays I am kind of 66% PC and 33% Switch in terms of what platforms I play on.
But unless something is later revealed to be severely wrong with the Switch version. Is there really any reason to not to get the game on the Switch?
>Switch
It is on the PC
Wait, it's not available for PC? Do the japs still not realize no one plays games on consoles anymore?
see
This will be a divisive game for sure
Can't wait for review

Trannillaprostitutes, everyone.
>this thread
What the frick?
Why do we have so many schizos loose these days?
Everyday it’s just an increasing attempt to one up yesterdays contrarianism which leads to ding dongs schizoposting for engagement
They have no other purpose in life…this is why we need more mental institutions
The previous threads weren't like this though. This thread stands out.
Thanksgiving week, the us kids are off school
>Chess exist
>Ganker: Fricking autobattler!
>half of the thread is hidden
are they posting about trannies muh coom muh pedos muh gacha?
This is Ganker what else would schitzos post to be contrarian
How I wish they would make a new 2D action game again, the only one that has come close to VW is Dust an Elysian Tale.
I don't know about the game but Ganker is the worst festering shithole on this site.
Irrelevant, fanboyism and shit taste, if I want to know about good games I'll have more luck asking grandmas on the street.
>frogBlack person avatar
just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…
This game is outing the zoomers and the newbies and I'm loving it.
Absolutely based.
dont worry the baiters will get bored and move on
I loved Odin Sphere and will definitely be getting this game. I can't see anyone surpassing Mercedes though.
Fricking Ogre Battle is fun Black folk. But all you want is them to rehash the same tired shit year in and year out. Why fricking From is stuck making Souls shit until the end of time.
is this like Brigandine
no
not even close
>unironically using the term autobattler
It really is zoomer hours
>From and Souls out of nowhere
Every fricking Ganker thread
Ganker made it their identity for years what do you expect
they doscortroons tried it earlier but got exposed so they had to wait for the thread to die down again
If Vanillaware doesn't want to do ARPGs anymore i just hope Astlibra dev can get Shigetake's support again do the fricking job himself
>redditshart trans avatar
I can use auto with tales games so that means they arent action rpgs anymore
Aizens VA already makes the game a 10
The more generic and less kamitani extravagant the characters become the less I'm interested in whatever Vanillaware decided to put out. Hope they find success as an atlus factory for inoffensive, zero personality anime slop.
>Not the first post from this IP.
take your meds
Yeah real pity there's no bulging dwarf men for you to ogle, gay
>game isn’t like the game I only know because le hecking GAYMER GAYTE
>UNICORN
>OVERLORD
i really expected to not fall asleep when clicking that trailer but the riceBlack folk never fail to impress with the same same dull same shit same same
>everyone in this thread was born after Ogre Battle was released
Wish I could nuke this place for real
I'm 33, so no.
Most anon, I’m 40.
Most people here don't even play video games
we're with you, fellow gramps.
30 years old. Been a PChad for all my life, don't assume everyone has heard of whatever the frick obscure console weebshit you played in the 90s.
>PChad for all my life
There wasn't anything to be proud in the 00s until fricking Crysis and nolifer MMOs.
NTA but
>Warcraft II
>Diablo I
>MUDs
>Duke Nukem
>Baldurs Gate 1
>Age of Empires
that's just from the top of my head.
If you count MUDs then I was a PC Chad with my hand me down W95 PackardBell machine.
Forgot about AoE, that's fair.
Wasn't the Duke out in the late 90s?
>Alpha Centauri
>Civ 3
>UFO Defense & TFtD
>Brood War
>Diablo 2
>WC3 & FT
>Rainbow Six
>HL, CS1.6 and TF Classic
>AoE2
>BG1&2
>NWN
>FO1&2
>Daggerfall & Morrowind
>Duke Nukem 3D
>Red Alert 2
>GTA:VC
But of course, you homosexuals were too busy creaming to FF7 or Chrono Trigger back then.
the art looks good but the animations are horrendous
finally, fire emblem if it was good after awakening
All these posts complaining about watching the fight animation couldn't even skip to the end of the vid
Many such cases
the last good game was odin sphere
Muramasa and 13 sentinels are the best in their own genre
A lot of shitposting because its not on steam i see
Well, I almost always enjoy VW games, but still wish the next one would be like Muramasa.
Still the trailer looks promising, but I'm a bit concerned about if the whole game would boil down to turtling with a huge group and just aggroing enemies one by one.
It looks like some adventure quest ripoff. How the frick did this company go from GOTY to this crap?
I'm not watching it. I'm looking forward to this game.
Looks good will emulate it day -10
I don't get the doom posters:
Looks like a better version of an NDS RTS.
Clashes are pretty much 3vs3 Fire Emblem action.
Just give it a weapon polyhedron or some interesting passives so it can be better than Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.
Being absolutely baffled at the majority of this thread not understanding what a SRPG/Tactical RPG is like. Am I really reading posts that are wondering why you can't manually control units during a fight in a game like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics?
What the frick is happening am I going crazy
>or Final Fantasy Tactics?
What the frick am I reading?
>Vanillaware's take on Ogre Battle
My most anticipated single player game right now. If you don't like it, well that's fine because this one is literally made for me so frick you.
