Can't say anything about the gameplay since I haven't played it, but I watched all the main story cutscenes over the course of the past few days. It's about 15 hours long.
I'd say it's one of the best stories. The RGG team of writers has gone a long way past shitty surprise twists and has focused more on characterization instead. By the 5th or 6th hour we pretty much know all the key players and their true roles. There's no stupid surprise final boss like in fricking Yakuza 5. Kuwana is one of the best and most well-developed antagonists in the series. The theme of bullying is pretty sensitively explored. It resolves quite nicely.
The only thing I didn't like in the story was how Mitsuru VERY CONVENIENTLY woke up just to set off Kusumoto's betrayal.
Apparently its great if you like RGG games, shame about the whole licensing bullshittery for the pc version but whatever. Ill pick it up in a few years when ive gone through all of yakuza, currently playing through 3.
It feels like BGM being too quiet is a common issue in Japanese games recently. At least most games have audio sliders so you can tune them, but RGG Studio seems adamant about their own audio mix.
Great story line, this is honestly the first most "realistic" RGG story without insane out of ass twists
Side cases and mini-games are pretty much the best ever since Yakuza 1, it's not just haha funny scene -> fight angry mob at the end of the sub-story but you actually need to investigate something and have varied enough outcomes that not necessarily end in a fight
Combat is best for DE but it's way too easy even on Ex-hard and honestly even Amon is a huge pushover (but admittedly he was ever since Y6)
Soundtrack is good, but I felt that many battle themes were 'just' okay with not enough power compared to any previous yakuza game. Final part of the game has great score like usual tho
I guess my only complaint would be that Yokohama has hardly changed, it's pretty empty and if you beat like 40%ish of the cases then you will REALLY notice how fricking empty the map is with nothing to do, also story wise the later chapters feel like a filler to extend the playtime and same with unlocking the new mini-games where you're locked behind mystery club investigation
Loving the game but a few things annoy me. There's 3 styles and 2 unusued d-pad buttons, why the frick are they all mapped to down?
How the frick do you turn enemies around while grabbing them in this? It used to be L1 but it doesn't work anymore. Is it seriously just the one move in snake style when you're at full hp? Speaking of grabs, almost every enemy escapes grabs instantly and you can't grab bosses at all as far as I can tell.
Nope, you no longer can flip enemies like in the previous games.
Snake style becomes useless late game because like you mentioned enemies escape grabs unless you're spamming EX mode which does chip fricking damage with Snake and also you can't disarm later regular enemies too.
Overall Snake has so little moves that it's barely worth using late game at all, it feels like a style thrown in for jokes to dump funny scared EX heat actions on random encounter mobs and that's it.
I’m on chapter 11 and you can definitely disarm random mooks with weapons, even in big story fights, but yeah it’s not that good on bosses. The parry heat move is decent
I'm just saying if you want to start shit be more subtle about it at least. Show some dedication to your craft and not this half-hearted baiting you're trying to pull in every fricking yakuza thread.
Not as good as the first game.
Improved combat but story isn't as good and Yokohama still isn't a good city. Also there's almost nothing in Kamurocho.
Ah I haven't played the first game. I just heard someone say that lost judgement has the best combat in a dragon engine game.
Kuwana did nothing wrong
better than like a dragon by a mile.

Please tell that there is not a fricking Keihin gang invaison mechanic where gang of morons try to rape you on the streets again
No, just normal random encounters
Nope, but there's random fatties in golden suits that one shot you (at least on hard) and drop a ton of money

Last boss of this game should have been the guy who mixed the music track too low.
I'd gladly kill that motherfricker.

Yokohama was fine in 7, don't know why they closed off a bunch of parts of the map in this.

Makes you wonder if the boxing style is even gonna be worth a shit then.
I like what someone said in a past thread. Just kick them until dead.
Best game on the new engine
Made me realise how awful 7’s combat was, Jesus it was so bad.
Faster crane is good, and snake is fun.
>this post again
why are you trying to start shit this adamantly?
why do you fall for it everytime?
