Don't play it. Vic3 is a shit game but it is just polished enough in a few ways/better than vic2 in a few specific niches that it reactivated my anger at many of the shit systems in Vic2. Now whenever I play Vic2 I just get overcome by rage at what could've been if paradox didn't fumble the bag so fricking badly.

Nah not really, and probably never will be. There are issues DLC can solve like countries being too samey/lack of content, but the big problem of the game won't be fixed with an update.
It's that there's basically nothing to do in the game. Most PDS games are all about the buildup to diplomatic tensions and ultimately war, through construction/economics/diplomacy/etc. But in Vic3, diplomacy and war are both awful.
Because of diplomatic plays, all diplo in the game boils down to one of two outcomes: the AI folds and gives you whatever you want, or they don't fold so it's just war. So the diplomacy is really just a fancy looking UI for justifying war. Once a war is justified it gets automatically declared and you can't change wargoals/ask for new shit/change terms in the middle of a war, which is just silly. EU4 is a meme mana game and even its diplomacy is way way better. Honestly even civ has better diplomacy because you can trade things that matter outside of war, do collective actions like denunciation, win through diplo etc
And then there's the actual war. Which is simply terrible. They made it so abstract you can barely control anything, but in doing so they somehow made it MORE difficult to get the outcomes you want. If I could just tard wrangle my soldiers on the actual map and click to tell them where to go, wars would be way less annoying and take LESS micro, but somehow that's too difficult. They had to be "brave" and make the "bold" decision to make the war system AFK line-staring.
I guess that's the whole game really. AFK line-staring. You build buildings to build more construction to build more buildings. Construction is just the HOI4 construction queue btw.
There are like 30 billion other issues but its not worth going into it. Disappointing game. A 4X that cuts out two of the X's and replaces them with idling. if it wasn't named "victoria" or released by Paradox it'd be forgotten by now tbqh

V3 is the worst of both worlds: you have very little control over armies, but they still require constant micromanagement (else you get fricked by random front splits). The one part that allows direct control are naval invasions, which are hilariously exploitable. Any minor nation can declare war on UK day 1 and win war reps / recognition.

I could live with the game being broken or glitchy or empty, it's just fundamentally bad on a design level. I went into it with an open mind but the war thing really kills the game for me. They could've released vic2 with new graphics and it'd be way more fun, that's how you know they completely failed to make a good sequel. even though Vicky 2 is ridiculously broken in so many ways it's better designed so you can look past it. you can't just "look past" the things wrong with vic3 because it's the whole foundation of the game.
people compare it to stellaris but it's not the same at all, they overhauled pops and changed how FTL works sure, but they didn't ship a game lacking spaceships and fleet combat and then add them in a patch. There aren't even navies in vic3, wars are fricking HoI4 air zones with armies flying to the area to fight one battle at a time. Their upcoming solution is to let you fight two battles at a time. patches aren't gonna fix bad design, it's a band-aid on a broken leg

vicc3 is an attempt to change good implementation of a good concept which has lead to bad implementation of even worse concept made by people who frankly have no fricking idea what the frick they are doing. Game is not fundamentally bad, there are no fundamentals to begin with. Its just a bunch of miss-matched broken systems which do not interact with each other in any way and exist for no reason other than "it worked in other games so lets put it here".

people on this site have been overusing the word "shill" for over a decade, but OPB and many other youtubers were, LITERALLY, actual shills, like they were paid to make sponsored videos to advertise the game.
In OPB's case I wouldn't be surprised if there's something deeper though. His "crackpot theory" was too on-the-nose, my crackpot theory about his crackpot theory is that he knew in advance and the info was leaked to him on purpose so it could soften the eventual blow of Vic3 being a strategy game with no units.
