It’s a satire so it’s made to play up all of the very mid-late 2000’s stereotypes and shit, but the game is very clear that the protagonist is cynical and spiteful beyond what is reasonable for what she is exposed to - even the principal who rides her way to the top by fricking school faculty and her friend the stereotypical mean girl call her out for being deranged.
That would go against the whole point of the game. She’s the cynical butthole millennial like many millennials who pissed their youth away being a giant c**t not making the best of their time and are still miserable losers today.

I didn't mean it that way. It's more like if every single mention of Super Metroid ended up with just Samus image dumps. Not that there isn't a lot of these. But there are threads discussing gameplay. It just seems the same can't be said for DDLC. All I see is, well, image dumps and waifuposting.
Unironically I think the straight VN part of the DDLC was more enjoyable than the horror part. The horror part has some cool stuff but it just kind of meanders and nothing really happens, it just randomly ends.
VN's strength honestly wasn't in the horror exactly at least in my opinion but how sharp and quick everything just launches at you once the game gets going. Everyone and their mom expected the twist to be "its actually a horror game". What surprised people was how realistically out of nowhere Sayori's suicide was and then all the meta stuff it did. People still don't credit it enough for how smartly it plays around with the game's files and other features as a medium. The thing makes use of well known Renpy bugs for creepy scenes.
The narrative is also somewhat interested, especially after DDLC+ showed whats actually going on,.
That stuff was cool, yes, but I feel there isn't really a payoff. I get that's kind of the point, but Natsuki and several other characters just vanish with no fanfare and are never seen again. Felt like a waste to me. There is a climax of sorts but it just seemed to be a barrage of scenes trying to be creepy and then throwing all the plot at you in 15 minutes at the end.
I felt like most of the characters were pretty likable if a bit tropey, and I'm slightly miffed you never get to find out about the backstories of the various characters that are alluded to in the first part, it all remains unresolved. I also liked the poem gimmick the game had, it was an interesting and unusual way to fleshing out the characters' personalities in an unusual way which, again, feels like it didn't matter at all in the end and was basically wasted effort.

I think what makes edgy humor like this absolutely insufferable, even back in 2009, was that the main character who is TOTALLY not a self-insert, ALWAYS has the perfect thing to say to immediately crumble the pscyhe of their victim, and is never rebuked except with petty threats of violence.

House in House MD is such a good character because all of his roasts and butthole remarks can be rebutted, and characters often do. It keeps you in this constant pace of House saying something funny and rude before an actually sane character says something back to burn him.
I feel like Nicole is only told off in the endings, but having someone tell her "shut the frick up, you do xan/percocet" would've made things better since she is perfect and always right when the narrative says so.
I think that the way to call out Nicole would be to point out that she only uses the words rapist, pedophile and racist because they're the three words that hold the most power in society and that she doesn't actually care who is any of those things.

I didn't mean it that way. It's more like if every single mention of Super Metroid ended up with just Samus image dumps. Not that there isn't a lot of these. But there are threads discussing gameplay. It just seems the same can't be said for DDLC. All I see is, well, image dumps and waifuposting.
Unironically I think the straight VN part of the DDLC was more enjoyable than the horror part. The horror part has some cool stuff but it just kind of meanders and nothing really happens, it just randomly ends.
VN's strength honestly wasn't in the horror exactly at least in my opinion but how sharp and quick everything just launches at you once the game gets going. Everyone and their mom expected the twist to be "its actually a horror game". What surprised people was how realistically out of nowhere Sayori's suicide was and then all the meta stuff it did. People still don't credit it enough for how smartly it plays around with the game's files and other features as a medium. The thing makes use of well known Renpy bugs for creepy scenes.
The narrative is also somewhat interested, especially after DDLC+ showed whats actually going on,.
That stuff was cool, yes, but I feel there isn't really a payoff. I get that's kind of the point, but Natsuki and several other characters just vanish with no fanfare and are never seen again. Felt like a waste to me. There is a climax of sorts but it just seemed to be a barrage of scenes trying to be creepy and then throwing all the plot at you in 15 minutes at the end.
I felt like most of the characters were pretty likable if a bit tropey, and I'm slightly miffed you never get to find out about the backstories of the various characters that are alluded to in the first part, it all remains unresolved. I also liked the poem gimmick the game had, it was an interesting and unusual way to fleshing out the characters' personalities in an unusual way which, again, feels like it didn't matter at all in the end and was basically wasted effort.

I liked the absurdly edgy humor and the 00's setting but only about 1 in every 10 jokes is funny. if they had an editor or writers room they might have been able to make something really good. one or two moments are pretty good but doesn't make the game.

It is a funny subversion. You get to romance underage girls in most VNs, but you play as a sociopathic white girl who roasts every guy she meets.
People claim that she's a self-insert/Mary Sue, but the VN shows that she's tech illiterate and a bad student who flunks all of her classes. She's not even street smart as well.
