It's no masterpiece.

>yes, I got another moon
ah! damn it! why does the game want me to explore these big fun levels? argh!!
>big
>fun
Two wrong adjectives to describe Mario Odyssey’s level design.
D-, see me after class.
Always been among my least favorite mario games. new super mario bros wii bros unite.
hell yeah
https://newerteam.com/
SMO is my fav 3d mayro since 64
>NSMBW
my homie, only good NSMB
NSMB DS was better.
bad bait
I hate zoomers so much bros
It's instant gratification shit for literal babies.
cope
Better than yay you just went through a linear level and got the star at the end. Here’s line 2mins of unskippable shit until you can go after the next one.
Odyssey is fun. I never even finished galaxy
It's not even a good game, shit is so easy you can get the same level of satisfaction mowing your lawn.
I grew up with a Playstation after having a snes, so I didn't play Mario 64 until a year ago. Mario 64 was still great and provides enough of a challenge to be fun. Mario Odyssey is made for babies, it should be disliked on Ganker where only "hard-core gamers" exist.
>it should be disliked on Ganker where only "hard-core gamers" exist.
Ganker posters LARP as hardcore only in response to gaming articles whining about how toxic [action game of the month] is. Like the Cuphead fiasco
But the fact that "sweaty tryhard" is a common insult here tells the real story
Linear doesn't mean bad troglodyte. You have a poor understanding of game design.
It's no masterpiece
Nooooo how dare they design this game around the fact that people can play the switch portably and as such the game is designed in such a manner where you can make progress while playing the game in small chunks over time Nintendo has betrayed us noooo
>climb mountain
>get kicked out of stage
>climb higher on mountain
>get kicked out of stage
>reach top of mountain
>get kicked out of stage
>climb halfway up mountain and enter side
>spray thing
>get kicked out of stage
>spray two things
>get kicked out of stage
>spray thing: red coins
>travel linear path
>get kicked out of stage
>this time go left
>get kicked out of stage
>this time go right again but have 50 things
>Odyssey, but in one location and recycling missions even more
It's time to admit 3D Mario was never good.
64 only did the "get kicked out of stage after collecting a star" thing to pad out the game. However Sunshine and Galaxy are actually designed around this level structure so it's not as bad in those games.
>get 100 coins
>get shine
>kicked out of stage
And Galaxy is even worse because every Galaxy level is basically "reach the end of the stage to get a star" and then "reach the other end of the stage to get a star"
>sunshine not as bad
What, sunshine is fricking awful in that regard, to get to a level you have to Watch The Delfino cutscene, go all the way to the entrance, either watch a cutscene at the beginning, or even two, one when you enter the level, if you die you have to repeat all of that crap.
>dying
>in Sunshine
>he does no death speedruns
troony, get an actual life
where the frick do you die in Sunshine outside secrets that immediately respawn you?
in the vast beach stage with no pits to fall to, or dying to enemies hitting your 8 hp bar for 1 point each time?
to that one one up mushroom at the bottom of a lake below a blue coin with the homosexual fish that runs up to eat you when you try to get back up
frick him
Get a life, troony.
I wish there weren't so many moons, it makes each one feel less significant. Odyssey has great mechanics and it's fun seeing what people can do with them or all the routing, but there's just too many moons.
64 does some of this too like with King Bob-omb or the ship in Jolly Roger or Bowser's sub.
*bends OP over the table*
Oh well would ya lookit that? A whole fricking moon about to fricking get brutally fricking ravaged...
I uaed to think this too until I actually played it.
Course clear Mario is the best format.
>he likes 3D World
Point at him and laugh
He said course clear not soulless
3D world is great. Large levels that encourage exploration through the green stars and stamps, player character differences a la smb2, and lots of uses for the cat suit. The game one ups the galaxy series in literally everything and has more to do than odyssey without drowning you in moons just for kicking a rock
SMOdyssey was game of the decade
cope
>collectathon has a lot of things to collect
>this is bad somehow
>get moons
>get purple coins
>collectathon
yeah, about that, if they wanted to make a collectathon mario game, they could have added star coins or red coins, yoshi eggs or whatever as well.
>it's not a collectathon despite having a ton of things to collect
???
>why does an exploration game make me explore?
They should have had Blue Coins in Odyssey. Even though Blue Coins versus Shines is function identical to Power Moons versus Triple Moons, making the low effort "well done, you notices a slightly out-of-the-way guy to talk to" reward be aesthetically distinct from the "well done, you completed an actual level full of platforming challenges" reward instead of just a smaller number of the same thing does a lot to stop them from devaluing the primary goals.
It feels kind of slow honestly, I'm not a fan.
Slow compared to what? It's easily one of, if not the fastest 3D Mario game with how versatile his movement is.
64
64 isn't that fast. There's probably no actual comparison of the two in video form but I'm sure if you compared them Odyssey would be faster.
>want to replay a level
>Need to start over from the beginning of the game
Wtf were they thinking
sunshine has a great romhack that turns it into open world where you no longer get kicked out of the level if you get a sun
its called mario sunburn and made me enjoy the game much more
