Kind of, but going back to traveling with 2 gym leaders was kinda cool.
It's nice to consider, but I think audiences would've felt Ash being the star would have hobbled her potential unlike say -- Dawn.
Why? They managed to separate and balance Ash and Dawn nicely in DP.
That could work in BW, depending on how would be Hilda's goal and not having Ash acting like he got brain damage after lose to Tobias.

It's kind of weird that they use Iris as a fighter too, but it seem like they REALLY underuse her and just have her insulting Ash.
