Huh. I actually played this game back in the day. Pretty decent though man did it have some sad issues. Like the whole are your buddies the thing?! part being both pointless and arbitrary. Not only do you lose buddies like every 10mins through cutscenese and level changes but whether or not they are the thing happens at set points. Hell at worst you can do a blood test, they are human, walk 10 feet they turn into a monster. This is a game that actually could make for a great remake but I guess that aint happening. Even if they did im sure they would frick it up. The game is also canon apparently and the end game helicopter pilot is Macready so he canon survives.

Nightdive are generally pretty good at implementing improvements to their remasters, given how the OG devs wanted the system to not be scripted but were limited by it being an fairly early PS2 game, I wouldn't at all be surprised if that issue is fixed.

The only thing I liked from them was the Turok port. System Shock Enhanced doesn't even work on my PC.

            Anonymous

You make it sound so simple. This would require re-working the entire game from the ground up. The way the game is built, it relies on the poor scripting for a level to progress in the fashion that it does. They would need to restructure the level design and code the AI differently, which is far outside the scope of a remaster. All Nightdive is going to do is put the game in widescreen, improve some particle effects, and improve some textures. They're not remaking the whole fricking game; that would be absurd.

Also, the game fricking sucks too. Lame ass third person shooter at best and an absolute slog at worst. I should know because I actually played the entire game recently and it seriously fricking sucks. There's no point in this port, other than The Thing branding, which is far from worth it.

Shadowman's remaster got extra content and was made better to play. There's nothing to say The Thing won't also get the same.
That said, it's a shit game at its core and half its mechanics are pointless such as testing your comrades.

                >That said, it's a shit game at its core and half its mechanics are pointless such as testing your comrades.
Well, at least we can agree on that. I still say The Thing is too far gone for any kind of remaster to save. It won't be enough to tweak some code here and there.

                Anonymous

                Yup. Definitely agree.
If they were remaking it from the ground up with similar but functional mechanics, I'd get the hype since on an idea level, it sounds fine, but the end product was bad.

I know that. Doesn't change the fact that Kurt Russel's character only went to the Norwegian base after they all died and died of cold at the end of carpenter's movie so there's no way he could team up with that girl assuming she really did survive.

Kate definitely died. She torched the snowmobile that had fuel to make it to the nearby Russian outpost. The one the Thing tried to escape in was almost out.

              Anonymous

Not really. Remember that the movies happen within a day of one another canonically. The two norwegians chase the huskything immediately after Kate blows up the UFO.
Someone could bullshit in a reason for the Russians to pick her up, like they detected the explosion from the UFO because they were spying on the Norwegians or something.

It would also make sense with the timeline, and make the lore that much more impactful. The cold war could be an integral part of the plot. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but SCP fiction bangs this drum constantly.

Anyone finding her in that literal space ship would have the area swarming with people/officials so fast.
You could fall back on the storm breaking comms (windows can't reach anyone (but this has it's own theories around it that windows can't reach anyone for 2 weeks because he is incompetant)).

She torches the american thing in the cab after the whole earring thing, and gets into the other one, i don't think fuel is a concern nor does it get established that the one the thing drives off with is low on fuel.
She even puts 2 more cans in the back of the one they drive in chase.

I think it's a safe bet that she simply drives off back to the base and either radios or drives to a nearby base as she has plenty of fuel.

Even if she had enough fuel in the snowcat she has no idea where the Russian station even is. Carter-Thing is the one who told her about it and she torched his ass. She died, plain and simple. Froze to death.

Probably, since he was the one that drove to the site anyway. She was there for like a day or so tops so wouldn't know the way back.

It could be a pretty easy plot device for a sequel though, someone following her tracks or even just seeing her barely alive and taking her back to whatever base.
                >She wakes up in a med room
                >Everything seems fine
                >She doesn't talk about what she knows, is from, what happened at the norwegian base or where the site is
                >She starts noticing shit
                >Realises the things are at the base and they are now being stealthy
                >She tries to explain but is deemed crazy and locked up
                >Shit goes south and she has to escape before everyone else becomes a thing and she's out numbered.

Could even pull some bullshit with Mac turning up to save the day as he wouldn't just sit there and let the end happen, opting to hoof it to the nearby station she just happened to get taken to.

I wouldn’t mind if they did a sequel with a storyline like that. The purists would hate it because if Mac shows up at all it negates the ambiguity of the 1982 film.
They could have MEW reprise the role and cast Wyatt Russell to play his dad’s character.

            >People who only care about what's canon to companies trying to milk the shit out of some product are moronic philistines
Then why do you care about the game story in the first place? You're not a moronic philistine, are you?

            >The end of the carpenter's movie...
This is a thread about the game. Not the movie. Different timelines if you really want to be a purist.

            >both of them realizing they're just gonna die so there's no more reason to be scared of each others.
Which doesn't really mean shit. Because John Carpenter himself stated that the video game is a canon sequel to the original movie. Childs died, MacReady survivded and on the flight back home he probably fricked MEW all night long cucking both jedis and basedboys into eternity.

                >it even seems like he disliked it.
But he never stated that it isn't canon. And the devs can always state that any new entry is set in an alternate timeline. Just like with the Halloween movies. So there is really no reason for the devs to not make a game about Mac and Kate teaming up and becoming professional thing hunters.

A: His fate is ensured in the movies. He's either The Thing or he's dead. Either way, he's not alive.
B:The comics also have the US show up during the impenetrable snow storm and has ChildsThing fricking with Mac rather than just disappearing into the Amazon. It'd already won. The comics were just moronic.
C: The game never mentions if its The Thing or Mac. Mac helping you destroy the GlowieThing at the end doesn't really stop him being The Thing when it didn't stop them killing their comrades prior. It's too smart for that. It knows all it needs to do is get off Antarctica.

he also missed once landed, then shot the guy in the leg, then fricked up his grenade by throwing it behind him
i'm sure he was just manically insane after just going through his own version of the movie but still, pathetic

The real question is why a Norwegian scientist was apparently completely incapable of speaking any English.

Why would he be required to?
        He's Norwegian, doing Norwegian research.

How should I know i'm not Norwegian.

          Anonymous

It's probably not strictly a requirement but I find it highly unlikely that someone in his position would know absolutely no English at all. It's the international language of science and Europe has fairly high rates of English literacy in general, plus he's working in a remote research base where if things go sideways they need to be able to communicate with anyone who they can reach and chances are whoever they can reach will be able to speak English. I wouldn't expect him to be fluent or anything but I would expect him to be able to at least cobble together some very rudimentary sentences that get his point across instead of just yelling in Norwegian at a bunch of people who obviously don't understand a word he's saying.

            Anonymous

That's fair, but in an extremely high stress situation, and an emergency, it seems likely that people would resort to a native language they can better articulate in when trying to communicate, even if the situation doesn't make sense. It probably wasn't the idea behind the scene, but it feels plausible.
Dane cook had a somewhat related joke and it goes something like this "I saw someone in the street that was about to get hit by a vehicle, but I didn't have time to yell "LOOK OUT, YOU'RE ABOUT TO GET RUN OVER BY A VEHICLE" so I just yelled "UUUUUUUGH".

Horror/sci-fi is hot shit if yoy can do it correctly. Should also note that the new Alien film comes out later this summer. My guess is that they want to piggy back off the speculated success of that.

If you're desperate for modern sci-fi, I guess. It could have been worse, I'll put it like that. It's not as bad as something like Ghostbusters 2016.

The fricked up thing is that it could have worked because they had a solid actors, but the writing, director and the entire marketing campaign of shitting on fans of the originals doomed it beyond the depths of hell.

There's a lot it's missing, but It does a decent enough job showing setting up the Norwegian base as it goes to shit and shows how things like the axe in the door got put there, the guy who cut his wrists, etc. The guy who cut his wrists actually had his scene cut for some reason.

It's a surprise prequel to the original movie and word of god has stated that the protagonist doesn't even live after the ending. It's fun if you absolutely must have more Thing-Stuff after watching the 1982 film but otherwise no.
