>"I'll be frank here, the Dark Sun setting is problematic in a lot of ways," Brink said. "And that's the main reason we haven't come back to it. We know it's got a huge fan following and we have standards today that make it extraordinarily hard to be true to the source material and also meet our ethical and inclusion standards... We know there's love out there for it and god we would love to make those people happy, and also we gotta be responsible."
Do you really want a new Dark Sun video game when WotC is being this much of a pussy?
Their reasoning is apparently because it has slavery, genocide, racism, general bigotry and what not, that means that you absolutely endorse it if you play in the setting!
>and also meet our ethical and inclusion standards
lmfao. someone explain how this is any different from the suburban moms who thought harry potter was satanic. you know, other than the fact that they actually bow down to these regressive freaks
The difference being that moralists arguing from a philosophic perspective are bums who at worst can make your sales go down (which have always been meaningless for valuation except in extreme scenarios like total successful boycotts)
Meanwhile Larry Fink roundabout pays your company by fraudulently inflating your stock price through a parallel valuation (should be hyper illegal as price tampering but isn't because lol israelites)
I honestly have no idea what they're talking about. Forgotten Realms also has all of those - though obviously not as much in your face as Dark Sun.
[...] >olde >Lands of Lore
Don't make me feel like I'm that fricking old, anon. Anyway, if you haven't played it already, give Realms of Arkania a go.
WotC has been systematically removing lore related to racism and slavery from Forgotten Realms too and they are going for the direction where DnD is just an aesthetic that comes with a generic and sterile setting for those who don't want to be their own ones.
Reminds me of World of Darkness stuff. The metaplot and everything in the background got too be too much for most people new to the P&P game, so White Wolf made nWoD which was just fricking barebones and it failed to sell after the core book was released, at least where vampire was concerned - I can't say anything about the other splats, I haven't played those.
You mean like the idiot that always dumps franzetta art here and jerks off over how le epic he is even though he drew blacked porn? Because this situation reminds of that a lot and I'm fairly certain it's the same person.
It's unlikely that Frazetta ever imagined or otherwise gave a single frick about modern degenerate fetishes, he simply drew unga bunga men with unga bunga women, no matter of what ethnos they were.
Now, whether modern brain rot would affect him as it affects some artists nowadays, no idea.
Anyway, the only dev studio I'd trust to make a video game true to the Dark Sun setting would be Iron Tower Studio, but they're busy right now with Colony Ship.
Love Shattered Lands. Still play through it once a year. Wish that Wake of the Ravager was overall better and more polished rather than rushed out. Current year gaymers need to have customizable genitals and frick animals in their games.
Ironically, Dark Sun is dead because the world is dying.
Its disappointing to read these "oh, problematic tropes/settings" bits. I mean, not every game or setting needs to be everything to everyone. In this way despite the absolute abortion that is their new shitfrick monetization scheme since the end of "just selling DLCs for reasonable prices" and instead adding fricking battle pass and item mall shit, I am still glad Conan Exiles exists and is in the hands of Scandinavians who, among allowing users to choose full nudity, you can also tie up and take NPCs (or players!) as thralls among many other Hyborian elements accurate to the setting.
>manlet
>new
You mean there are old ones?
Shattered Lands is one of the best RPGs ever
Shattered Lands is actual dogshit and you might as well stop pretending to be le epic boomer and go play bg3 because it's made for idiots like you.
Yeah actually, they were basically Baldur's Gate before Baldur's Gate was Baldur's Gate. And more metal.
There was also an online one that was sort of tied to AOL, but no one really knows much about it.
I would rather we get nothing than a soi larian game where they frick each other up the ass
good. it would be a climate change lecture

This is why the concept of copyright needs to die. Anyone should be able to make a Dark Sun game.
>insulting story creation crafts by letting any chumps without aesthetic or canon sense to try their hand
No thanks.
Or you could make your own Not Dark Sun game.

One is more profitable than the other, that's it.
How do you do a medieval fantasy setting without these? Isn't racism, slavery and bigotry just assumed?

RPGs are bad and this is especially dumb. Of all the old RPGs, this one is the most like shitty modern ones, arguably thr first goyslop rpg.
But they aren't.
Then why do all rpg fans latch onto the stupidest games? This is not a good game.
Perhaps they like aesthetics or times in it.

Literally who
what other ye olde forgotten rpgs do you think may be worth playing current anno domini? Here's my contender
baby's first dungeon crawler, it's supposed to be a stepping stone into better games
>stepping stone into better games
QRD on better games?
Wizardry 7
they're all clunky. the one area games have really improved is control schemes.
Sometimes it's better for a franchise to die than to be rebooted and raped to death tho

Modern Norman countries appear to be a joke.
