Probably because its been so long since a new game, but yeah I really hated the trends towards more and more minigame style special attacks, it got really annoying near the end with Dream Team. I always preferred bros moves being actual physical techniques like the first especially with the advanced moves where they slightly tweak the attack to get a whole new effect.

Mario & Luigi was barely effected by the 'mandate' the only characters that they can't do is Kylie Koopa or some of the Toads in the first game. The majority of M&L characters were always entirely new, which was always allowed.

Between this and Wonder I'm glad that stylized, expressive 3D is becoming the standard for Mario games. When 3D movies blew up we had a wave of 2D art direction made with 3D in mind so it's cool to see the opposite.

agreed, not a fan of the electrics idea, it's fun, but not very aesthetically pleasing, that city looks terrible, Islands are an overdone concepts, expecially unfitting for those things. Light bulbs would've been better but I get what they're going for and this is all to test the series popularity, to see if fans will buy it en masse. Yeah, you can tell especially with how Luigi's warbling isn't "frying" like Martinet was doing near the end of his run. There were a lot of times where the strain was so bad in LM3 Luigi sounded like fricking Waluigi.
Honestly the only time I can really call Kevin Afghani bad was that one presentation where his voice cracked doing the "Let's-a-goooooo." Otherwise he's doing alright with only having to do wahoos and wowie zowies and stuff.
I think Brothership will really put him to the test since these tend to be where Mario and Luigi have a lot of "Mario and Luigi" noises and random Italian gibberish. But I think getting those sessions in will really let him get comfortable with the role.

I don't think Nintendo understand that the reason why BIS is the best selling and most beloved game in the series because you get to play as Bowser. If they want to generate excitement about a new M&L game fricking give us different characters to play as, people have been wanting Wario (and Waluigi) for decades, hell even Peach would be something.
It's been 9 years since Paper Jam.
This is obviously a soft reboot, going back to the basics of just Mario and Luigi (instead of the gimmick of always having an addition: Baby Mario and Luigi, Bowser, Dreamy Luigi, Paper Mario) and maybe serving as training for the new team if it's not just made of staff scooped up from AlphaDream.
It's exactly how I envisioned AlphaDream would make a HD M&L game, even with the lacking quality in mind. They're great developers but they were always inexperienced in 3D.
I remember a scene in DT where Mario has a heart attack over spending coins, so it's one of the very, very few Mario series to depict him with any sort of personality.
Because its the only RPG where they actually interact with each other throughout the entire thing. Usually its mario doing his thing and luigi popping up one in a while if at all.
Not only that but his whole kingdom is fleshed out and you get to see the respect he gets. I also loved how he blasted the Mushroom Kingdom after you defeat Jr.
Please God give me RPG2, even the director wants it and the remake sold enough to indicate interest, if it's anything like the remake and this new Mario & Luigi then it will certainly be a good time

I mean, at least she has a personality. She's no Midna, but at least she's not Fi who constantly interrupts the game to tell you things that are obvious.
Personally for me I saw Starlow (and sort of Stuffwell) as a crutch for storytelling since the bros. don't talk, she was the voice for them when I'd prefer how it was in Superstar Saga where no one talked for the bros.
I mean, she at least has some sort of personality. I know some people hate her because she's always messing with Luigi, but she at least has a personality in the games she was in.
Her contextual purpose is entirely removed beyond BIS, her role was meant to have a back and forth with Bowser but after that entry it never happens again so they made her focus on her teasing of Luigi happen way more. Having a personality is a good aspect but that doesn't inherently make something good as a whole. I don't think she should be like blacklisted from ever appearing again but it should happen more naturally and briefly like when Fawful cameo'd in PiT or when Kylie and Popple appeared in Dream Team.
You do have a point, and she did feel a bit forced into the games after BIS, but I don't think she deserves all the hate she gets. For an "assistant character," she's not as bad as Navi or Fi.
Over saturation and a bit of flanderization of a character is just naturally going to get push back from fans of something. If she was a one-off in BIS she'd probably be fondly liked when looking back but now she's just seen as a mean tutorial guide.

I think Brothership will really put him to the test since these tend to be where Mario and Luigi have a lot of "Mario and Luigi" noises and random Italian gibberish. But I think getting those sessions in will really let him get comfortable with the role.

I mean, at least she has a personality. She's no Midna, but at least she's not Fi who constantly interrupts the game to tell you things that are obvious.
Personally for me I saw Starlow (and sort of Stuffwell) as a crutch for storytelling since the bros. don't talk, she was the voice for them when I'd prefer how it was in Superstar Saga where no one talked for the bros.
I mean, she at least has some sort of personality. I know some people hate her because she's always messing with Luigi, but she at least has a personality in the games she was in.
Her contextual purpose is entirely removed beyond BIS, her role was meant to have a back and forth with Bowser but after that entry it never happens again so they made her focus on her teasing of Luigi happen way more. Having a personality is a good aspect but that doesn't inherently make something good as a whole. I don't think she should be like blacklisted from ever appearing again but it should happen more naturally and briefly like when Fawful cameo'd in PiT or when Kylie and Popple appeared in Dream Team.
You do have a point, and she did feel a bit forced into the games after BIS, but I don't think she deserves all the hate she gets. For an "assistant character," she's not as bad as Navi or Fi.
Over saturation and a bit of flanderization of a character is just naturally going to get push back from fans of something. If she was a one-off in BIS she'd probably be fondly liked when looking back but now she's just seen as a mean tutorial guide.
I'm not in love with the character, but besides her deal with Luigi, I don't think she was really that "mean."
