I know this because one of my relatives transitioned. I have the "scoop" in their community if you will. SH3 is only rivaled by Fallout New Vegas. No, it's not a meme. Trans really do love new vegas but not exactly because of what's in the game they're simply too smart to enjoy Bethesda crap.
It's easy to see why SH3 is so popular. It's quite literally about female fears and anxeties and moving on and being violated not feeling in yourself i nyour body etc.
It's not about any of those things, it's a coming of age story around a fear of pregnancy.

It's dull in some ways and good in others. It's not the first SH I'd play for the sake of exploring environments as it's mostly a straight line outside of the Hilltop Center. But on the flipside, it's very good at the whole "I'm going to open this door now and LOL GET FRICKED NERD" sensation, 3 doesn't give a frick if you're thrown off by a mob of enemies or not. Plus, SH's art and sound direction inarguably peaked with 3.
the problem was they decided to make the enemies more aggressive but at the same time barely do anything to fix the glaring combat issues when you are put in a corner by the enemies so instead they give you stupid items like beef jerky to try to just say be cautious and use this when it only works for one enemy type
Combat's not always the answer though. 3 definitely wants you to run sometimes, like the effort necessary to clear the opposition just wouldn't be worth it. I think that's fine to implement in a survival horror game.
I understand it wants you to run at times but when you go in the "wrong" room and end up with 3 or 4 enemies cornering you and you are just trying to get an item it becomes really obvious that the combat isn't working too well when it NEEDS to.
True, but in a way that's also the risk/reward magic of it. I guess 3 can be a bit too "gotcha" with it sometimes and it feels cheap, but they go for that often enough where I feel like that was the intended design.
Director didn't work on 1 and 2. He came straight from the game Shadow of Destiny.
SH4, on the other hand, was directed by an important member from 2.

Not a Pachinko. Konami originally wanted SH3 to be an arcade Rail Shooter game but Team Silent immediately rejected that idea and started developing the game in a normal format after a couple of months of arguing about it with the higher-ups and making different prototypes. They released an Aracde Rail Shooter game in 2007 but it was about the original story centered around little girl Hanna who died in Teluca leake ship that was mentioned in SH2
I honestly genuinely hate Konami so much, they literally need those old morons to retire off the board already.
its definitely the weakest out of the trilogy but still has good moments.
i still think 4 is better then 3 though
the pacing is something I really enjoy about 3, there's something off about the way the levels go together, you feel like you're out of the woods once the mall thing is over but then it just keeps going and going and there isn't really a lot of respite, your goal is to get home the whole way though. in 1 and 2 there are staggered objectives and there's a rhythm that goes between exploring an area and investigating what you're there to investigating, and then fighting your way out of hell or clawing your way through a tight spot, but in 3 you're just on this marathon to get home and you end up lost in these urban mazes where it's hard to see why you're even there, you're just running away from this terror ever creeping closer to you but the further you run the deeper you go, and then after that gut punch there's nowhere left to go but in to hell's heart itself, then it seems to progress along the same lines as the others

- more of a horror action game than SH2, definitely felt more at risk than SH2 as well
- expanded the silent hill mythos a bit to make it more interesting
- robbie the bunny did mascot horror a decade before scott did FNAF
I think the worst thing I can say about it is that the endings aren't as interesting as SH1/2 and it needed more variety in environments.

wasn't as interesting as actually exploring the town, but I can at least understand their desire to try to mix it up on the 3rd entry. it's the weakest entry in the first three (never played sh4), but it's a perfectly fine game on its own.
They didn't do anything with Robbie until Silent Hill 4 though, he was just set dressing in the theme park.
didn't say they did, but he was a memorable set piece. and again, it anticipated FNAF by over a decade.

So? It’s a highly unnerving and unsettling game. The fear comes from not seeing mangled corpse or some cheap trick like that, but the psychological implications of what is being revealed to you.

it's not bad, but it's certainly overrated. I only played it once something like 20 years ago, not even kidding, and I remember it quite unpleasant. And the final boss was a quite ridiculous damage sponge if I remember right.
Anyway, far from the first 2 games, I'd say I even preferred the first half of 4 better than 3. It looked fantastic and still looks decent nowadays. Could benefit from a good remake (Capcom style), but let's see how bad Bloober team fricks up with 2 for now...
I finished it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It's... fine. You can tell that Konami did its best to make the series a mainstream hit with this game, but the SH formula just doesn't work that way. It completely lacks the heart and the weirdness of the previous games.
