The 4 stone pillars in shifting sand land in mario 64 have the properties of snow meaning mario will get stuck in them if he falls on them from high up
In Mario Sunshine in the Japanese version if you collect exactly 67 shine sprites and then clip out of bounds on the Gelato Beach and you go to the far left bottom of the map you can see a toad underground with one line of dialogue which is translated to "don't hurt me anymore I'm scared."
a few fun facts about Waluigi and Jimmy T. >Jimmy is Wario's closest friend in Warioware, when calling people, Jimmy is always the first person he calls >Jimmy says that him and Wario quote: "Go way back" >In Game & Wario, Jimmy's card is even said that he's rumored to be friends with Wario since childhood >Jimmy T's stage in wario games are nearly always sports themed, each microgame will showcase some type of sport >Waluigi is most known for his role in sports games, even Sakurai who hates him includes his tennis racket, considering that a part of his character >Unlike Wario who can kind of be gross but manly, Waluigi actually tries to be a ladies' man, often seen carrying a rose >Jimmy is also a ladies' man, although he has never been seen with a rose, the rose is actually one of his most favored "prezzies" in Get it Together >In Mario Golf World Tour, Waluigi literally disco dances with disco lights and everything >as a joke in a Nintendo Power magazine Waluigi is stated to be played by an actor named Jimmy >In Warioware snapped Jimmy's stage theme is acting
I still think this, and I think they're intentionally slowly trying to make them the same character without Miyamoto or some other person in power knowing
>intentionally slowly trying to make them the same character
Nah, that's the key difference between Jimmy and Waluigi, Waluigi tries (and fails) to be cool, Jimmy IS cool.
They are similar, but not the exact same.
Jimmy also has roles of bad luck with ladies. At one point, when his girlfriend said he cares more about dancing than her, he breaks out to dance because "the music made him do it", in Gold he thought he encountered fan girls to take pictures of him, turns out they were only interested in the cat
If what you're implying is true then that means Waluigi has a full family.
yes, my theory is that Waluigi is actually just an act, Jimmy is his real persona

Any difference between any character can be explained as an act, there's a lot of similar characters in the Mario universe, that doesn't mean they're the same person.
>X character is actually Y character
Always hate these moronic theories, like the other anon said, Jimmy was probably just made because they weren't allowed to use Waluigi, so they made a completely new character that eventually even got his own recolor.
It's just a theory, MAYBE the WarioWare team didn't want to have any pre-existing character but Wario, and simply made Jimmy without even actively thinking of Waluigi, maybe it was one big coincidence, who knows?
Pretty sure Waluigi appears in WarioWare Gold via the amiibo feature
So does almost every other character with an amiibo, you know what he means.
>and simply made Jimmy without even actively thinking of Waluigi
i refuse to believe the japanese, being the autistic fricks they are, just "forgot" waluigi existed
but i also can't deny that possibility because only internet autists remember who he is outside of japan
Very late reply, but from what I understand, Wario was slapped onto the WarioWare project later, meaning it'd be perfectly reasonable to assume that Mona, Jimmy, etc. were all designed before the game was intended to star Wario, and that's why neither Waluigi nor any of the Land characters showed up.
I could be wrong on this, though.
>characters are similar >"THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON"
Actual autistic behavior, Jimmy is simply an expy of Waluigi, just like Daisy was of Peach, and Luigi was of Mario.

It actually stands for Miyamoto. The L on Luigi's hat is a hidden tribute to Lennie Miyamoto, Shigeru's mentally handicapped brother. The Miyamoto family has hidden the existence of Lennie out of shame, and to protect the neighborhood from his gigantic, peanut butter slathered, cat strangling fists, but Shigeru has found ways to honor his brother.
When Microsoft executives bought Rare, they actually belived that the company had the rights of the Donkey Kong series abd were already planning new exclusives under the franchise
That was totally blown out of proportion by click baiting gaming press.
Chris Seavor has a directors commentary playthrough of Conkers bad fur day on youtube where he states so.
In actuality he says when Microsoft sent two legal guys down to Rare to discuss the deal. One of the guys saw a poster on the wall of Donkey Kong and he, and he alone, just assumed that that donkey kong was Rares.
Microsoft wasn't confused about the owner of the IP.
I'm almost certain peach is a few years younger than Mario and Luigi. In Partners in time M&L are clearly toddlers able to walk on two feet, while peach is still crawling on all fours. So I'd say peach is like 22-23
In a similar way, while Mario and the others are all straight up babies, Bowser is able to talk and do more things on his own, so he's probably a bit older than Mario.
I don't even know what to make of them anymore. Ideally, they should have just made them part of Bowser's family but whether them being his kids was strictly a thing the cartoon series invented or if it was alluded to in the relatively obscure game manuals, Miyamoto destroyed any believability of them being his kids as neither Bowser nor the Koopalings even interact like family anymore. That old interpretation is sadly a thing of the past as they are now just young, high-ranking minions with no biological, or even adoptive relation to him.

Regardless, I thinking someone should parody The Loud House with Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings. It should be named The Koopa House.
In a similar way, while Mario and the others are all straight up babies, Bowser is able to talk and do more things on his own, so he's probably a bit older than Mario.
We see the storks deliver them all at the same time. ALL the Mario characters are the same age.
Mario Party is its own canon, and the latest entry Mario Party Superstars is a direct sequel to the N64 games (not a remake or a compilation).
Superstars has remade boards and minigames, but the actual mechanics of the game itself is unique to the game, despite being heavily based on the older games.
The intro to the boards reference the events of the N64 games, like how Horror Land had an evil wizard being thwarted by the superstars, or how Woody Woods apparently was a battle field with no victors.
Toads are an asexual race that take on gendered characteristics, according to Hayashida in a Captain Toad interview
The only reason this sticks out to me is because it was such a weirdly specific bit of lore that came out almost entirely unprompted. It's like "Nintendo confirms Waluigi is uncircumcised" but real.
lol makes sense but fricking weird choice honestly. but something they've always thought about the toads but never came out and said, i get that feeling
There's actually multiple "toadettes" in one of the drawings on Galaxy's opening, then never acknowledged again as if that was lore we weren't supposed to see
I've always hated this. It's needlessly ambiguous. The character "Kamek" is largely a fandom creation and there's no reason to assume any Magikoopa not directly shown with a young Bowser is The Kamek. NOA in the past decade figured out they can just stop localizing the name to "Magikoopa" and keep fans happy that way.

>it's very likely that Kamek in Yoshi's Island was originally intended to be just a generic Magikoopa
Nah, he's the only actual Magikoopa in the the Yoshi series, with the next closest thing being the Toadies, who look extremely different from him, so he was already meant to be way less generic than THE Toad, or THE Yoshi, who always appear with various other Toads and Yoshis.
He did end up making the jump to the main series and spinoffs tho, where he's Bowser's right hand man as THE Magikoopa.

Toadies probably apprentice versions of what become the Magikoopas.
Toads have genders >On November 17, 2014, the gaming website GameSpot posted an article featuring a segment of an interview with Koichi Hayashida, the producer of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. When discussing the genders of Toad and Toadette, Hayashida stated that "'...we never really went out of our way to decide on the sex of these characters, even though they have somewhat gendered appearances.'" This led the article's writer to conclude that "Toads are a genderless race that take on gendered characteristics".
>However, an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, in December 2014, contradicts this. Using a human translator, Miyamoto described that "we didn't really have in mind whether Toad was a boy or a girl" until Toadette was introduced. This led players to "take the impression that Toad was a boy because Toadette was a girl". This shows that Toads were more likely viewed with an ambiguous gender at first, rather than being genderless as the GameSpot article states.

Does he have an actual name or is he just "Bowser's brother"?
It's never stated.
Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels) manual just calls him 'Bowser's brother' it's never been mentioned again since.
They also just call him "The Blue Bowser" so its probably like a Yoshi/Toad-type situation where the main character is called their species name (The main Bowser is Bowser)
So is her Morton Koopa Sr.? That would mean the heavy implication of Bowser naming of of his son (former now thanks to Miyamoto) after his death in memory of him.
Why do they add shit like this? Every boo mansion level in 3D Land has a creepy face that appears at the beginning or end of the level of you stay stationary for a minute.
It reminds me of the creepy figures from Mario Galaxy.

Charles Martinet is a funny guy and really did just seem to stumble into the role of a lifetime. You should see some of the stuff he was doing before he landed the role of Mario.

I saw Charles Martinet at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
The first ever standalone Mario game was not actually Mario Bros, it was a Game & Watch game called Mario's Cement Factory. Also here's a picture of Captain Syrup.
Contrary to popular belief, the M on Mario's hat actually stands for 'Mama Mia' Mario's signature catchphrase.
The L on Luigi's hat stands for 'Lottery' as a left over from the 1986 Japanese animated movie 'Super Mario Bros.: Peach-Hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!' Where Luigi was an avid gambler and often divulged in hames such as slot machines, poker and lotteries.
Only otiginal characters like Geno, the clour and the Smithye are under Square's copyright, anything else is just Nintendo.
Regardless, not only Nintendo has "frick you" money but specially now Square's shit hasn't been performing well enough, that Nintendo wouldn't really care using that stuff. They don't bother with OG characters just because they don't care.
Real story from a Mario fangame site I used to go to, a member apparently knew Charles Martinet in real life and invited him to the site thinking the users of the site would get a kick out of talking with him. The issue was that no one believed him and basically chased him off, only to later have it confirmed that he was the real deal.
>"Glutton" was the word in Japanese he used to describe Princess Peach. "I was thinking they could have these big ships come in, and they've got these big chains all over them, and they drop a plate down with cake on it," he said.
>"Glutton" was the word in Japanese he used to describe Princess Peach. "I was thinking they could have these big ships come in, and they've got these big chains all over them, and they drop a plate down with cake on it," he said.
The only other Paper Mario game to be referenced in other titles besides PM64 is TTYD, with Twilight House from Mario Kart DS/Wii being based on Twilight Town, right down to the sky coloration and moon hanging over the sky
the kingdoms in odyssey aren't supposed to actually be floating, that's just for gameplay purposes
You can see in the skybox how for example NDC is actually supposed to look like
Mario Kart likes to throw little nods to other series in the Mario franchise without actually explictly mentioning them.
Ninja Hideaway for example is a Warioware track, it even has garlic and Wario's mustache everywhere in the track.
I’m a huge PM fan but this one feels like a stretch, they’re probably both just twilight themed and have similarities cause of that. Like there are dark shine sprite symbols around that track but those were never a thing in chapter 4, just feels like a stretch.
That said there are TTYD references in Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and the Mario DDR game. Lots of characters have their names on the scoreboard in MGTT including TTYD characters, and the Ms Mowz theme has a remix in DDR.
Luigi is seemingly the main character of Mario party 3 as he’s the only one without a stamp and the final two characters you face, daisy and waluigi, are both related to him by being his love interest and rival respectively. The final board, waluigi’s island, was also originally luigi’s island as you can see various bits of and pieces of Luigi stuff broken away, which actually mirrors how wario took over Mario land in super mario land 2 along with adding extra incentive for beating waluigi when playing as Luigi. Luigi is also the only one not interested in what’s going on during the intro to mario party 3.
Speaking of Mario land 2, there’s an argument to be made that the first two Mario party games are what set Mario land 1 and 2 into motion >going off of what Wario says in Mario party 2’s intro, Wario earned the title of superstar in Mario party 1, leading to him feeling entitled to the privilege of the land >Mario ends up taking the title of superstar from wario in Mario party 2 as seen by Mario being the one standing on top of bowser in the ending as if he was the one who bested him as well as the fact that the name of the land is Mario land >having lost both his title of superstardom and the land that he feels was owed to him, he decides to take over Mario land when Mario is off saving daisy from tatanga
This also ties into how daisy appeared in Mario party 3 but not 1 or 2 as she hadn’t met Mario and the rest of the gang yet
to follow up on this; >The Japanese Shogakukan guide for the game Yoshi features an origin story for Dinosaur Land. In the ancient past, an active volcano in the middle of the islands located in the southern seas rendered the dinosaurs living there extinct. Tens of thousands of years later, five shooting stars (implied to be the Star Road) came from the light of Star World one night, and one of them knocked the top half of a fossilized egg to its lower half inhabited by contemporary monsters, resulting in Yoshi hatching. These events also resulted in the resurrection of other dinosaurs, and the islands came to be known as Dinosaur Land
I'll let you draw your own conclusion
Mario canonically had only 2 girlfriends, Daisy and Pauline and was kissed by 5 female creatures while Luigi got nothing, even Wario kissed one princess of their own
She has the power to grow and shrink at will, its fine
Well there is that one statue in Mario Kart Wii of Daisy and Luigi dancing together

define "canonical" by Mario standards. Does it need to be something that appears in a game or anything official by Nintendo? Is any spinoff acceptable or only specific ones?
>The 1986 Japanese choose-your-own-adventure book "Another Romance of Super Mario Bros." is unique in that a license was obtained only for Mario himself, but not for any other elements of the franchise; leading to him starring in a story with original medieval fantasy characters.
Yes, a lot of the German comics included crossovers or other oddities that would probably need to pass some sort of copyright to get made in North America.
>Uses SMRPG characters and locations despite being released in 2006 >Has an OC, a sorceress named Cybele, who is never illustrated or used again >Comes with stickers; one of which is a Bob-Omb render that was never used elsewhere
And there's only two Mallow plushies that were found (as opposed to the tons of Mario, Boshi and item plushies) so what most people believe is that he was just a prototype and never actually released.
Probably extremely likely. They probably would've been seen as one big world like how DKC, Wario Land, Yoshi, etc. are all seen as in the Mario universe.

Mario 64 was Miyamoto's last hands on role directing a video game.
He wasted so much time/money on perfecting the feeling of the controls, that they had no resources left to design any actual levels - hence having to replay them over and over.
He then got shitcanned into a spokesperson/producer/admin role, where he remains to this day, and has never made a game since.
Mario has a medium-sized dick, around 14-15 cm aprox. I want to suck his dick so hard he will scream: "Mamma mia Anon!" While cumming in my fat, disgusting ashole.
I need to make a chart, I've been thinking a lot about which Mario games are "real" and which ones are just an "act" ever since Mario 3 was confirmed to be a play
No, it's more complicated than that. I believe here is the true, actual canon for "real" games. >Donkey Kong >Donkey Kong Junior >Mario Brothers >Super Mario Land 1 and 2 >Super Mario Brothers >Super Mario World >Super Mario 64 >Luigi's Mansion
and I'll write down my theory is to why
From BS Super Mario USA: >After the events of Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario and friends believe Subcon is all a dream and move on. However, Wart returns and overthrows the King of Subcon in the heroes' absence. Mario and his friends must once again face the forces of Wart, including the Birdo trio, Mouser, Tryclyde, Fryguy and Clawgrip. Both the protagonists and their foes can use the power of the stars (satellites) to their advantage. In addition, Mouser has stolen the gold Mario statues, symbols of peace, and hid them throughout Subcon.
Are you sure SMB2 doesn't ACTUALLY happen?
The first point of Mario's life would be Yoshi's island. However, we know Mario can't be born by the stork for a simple reason: His nipples. Nipples in men are entirely vestigial, and are a byproduct of how babies develop in utero. Most mammals are first formed with a female "base", and develop nipples very early into development. Only later do factors such as androgen exposure determine whether the baby is a boy or a girl. If Mario truly was conceived from a stork he would have no need to develop nipples, ergo the story of Yoshi's island can't happen.
and if you want something more conclusive the intro to Yoshi's island shows us the events of Yoshi's island being prohected onto a move silverscreen.
Because of this, the earliest REAL event we know of is Donkey Kong, when Mario gets a job as a carpenter.
Donkey Kong is fairly straight forward, he saves Pauline and due to being completely unknown to the public is referred to as the mysterious "Jumpman". Only in Donkey Kong Junior, when Mario captures Donkey Kong do animal rights activists discover Jumpman's true identity, Mario. This causes Mario to take a new job where his identity is hidden, working in New York's sewage system as a plumber. This job, along with wrecking crew somehow gets Mario a fortune which is how he gets money to buy a castle. Note these are the last times we really see him "working" regular jobs.
Mario land 1 happens, where Mario travels to Sarasaland to save Princess Daisy. The hearts Mario has when speaking to her refer to the fact he doesn't have a committed girlfriend in Peach yet. Super Mario land 2 is very simple, Wario steals Mario's castle and Mario gets it back.
Mario 1, Super Mario World and Mario 64 are the easiest games to link together:
Mario 1 obviously happened. It establishes King Koopa as a Wizard tyrant, and he turns the toads into bricks in this game. Mario 2 is a dream, while Mario 3 is a stage play telling of Mario's adventures.
In Super Mario World, Bowser no longer wants bricks but instead Yoshis. Also, Super Mario world has no floating bricks. Only flip tiles.
Super Mario 64 is Bowser's last scheme, in which he dies for good. And again, no bricks instead, cork boxes.
As for greater evidence that these games happened, look at Fludd's footage of Mario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwYeXrAm22E&t=235s only Mario 1, World, and 64 are shown.

Why do I believe Luigi's mansion does happen? Two reasons. The first, is that Madame Clairvoya is shocked to see Bowser, as she believes Bowser is "soundly defeated". She appears to be a reliable source, as she is the only friendly ghost in Luigi's mansion and also a medium. She seems to be good authority for that sort of thing.
The second, is that in Mario Kart double dash on Luigi's circuit we see Luigi canonically gets the A rank mansion.

Dark Moon treats Mario Kart as canon though since he gets the Poltergust 5000 in that game while the previous models were 3000 (Luigi's Mansion) and 4000 (Mario Kart DS)
Throwing out some more evidence, King Boo also says in Super Mario 64 DS:
After being defeated by Luigi: "Eee hee hee! We ghosts always rise from the dead. I just love the look of terror on your face! In fact, I live for it! Eee hee hee! See you soon!" >See you soon!

He's a cartoon character moron, babies that get delivered by the stork still have nipples, go back to Game Theory, MatPat loves moronic theories like this.
They're all real in the Mario universe moron, we don't ever see the actors just like how we never see the programming of the video games, they're always in-character.
Seeiously, that Miyamoto quote is another thing everyone misinterpretes, he meants Mario and friends could play any role, that's how they're actors, not that they're literally actors making a fricking movie or something.
The whole actor shit is so stupid to me, like, even if they were actors, they're still portraying fictional characters in a fictional universe that, for all intents and purposes, exists in its own canon, just like any other fictional media like Star Wars or Doctor Who, of course Mario is not real, but not because he's an actor, but because he's a fricking video game character.
Agreed. That would be like saying that none of the Pixar canon matters due to the existence of their blooper reels. It's just meant to be a cute little gag and nothing more. There's overanalyzing children's games and cartoons for fun and then there's taking things too seriously or literally to where you suck the fun out of everything.
A porn parody of Mario was made, named "Super Hornio Bros"
Nintendo got so mad they bought the rights to that movie, and proceeded to purge it from existence
This means that there's an official, licensed porn movie about Mario
According to the manual for Super Mario Brothers, goombas betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom for the Koopa Troop, yet it is unspecified when exactly this event occurs.
In the Yoshi's Island series, goombas are very rarely seen. Often being limited to a one level appearance if they appear in the game at all. Instead having been replaced by Shyguys as the most common fodder. This suggests that these games take place prior to their betrayal of the Mushroom Kingdom.
In Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, there are numerous goombas shown working for Baby Bowser. Suggesting this game takes place after their betrayal.
Taken together, this means that the goombas betrayed the Mushroom Kingdom somewhere between the Yoshi's Island series and Partners in Time. Likely sometime around when Baby Bowser first began warring against the Mushroom Kingdom.
Galoombas don't appear in any Yoshi's Island games. Without going into theory territory, the only thing we really know about them is that they work for Bowser. It could be possible that they were native to some unseen part of Dinosaur Land and were later drafted into Bowser's Army but there really is not much evidence going for or against it.
The Japanese story for Wario Land 4 seems to imply to the best of my understanding that Princess Shokora was long dead and buried before the Golden Diva took over the Pyramid or when Wario came to ransack the place.
I think most people get this, but how the English manual and other extended English material tell the story is kinda worded weird, so it leads to some confusion, like why Shokora ascended to heaven at the end of the game. I could be wrong though
My theory on smb3 is that while the version we play is a play, the events still happened, its just a play recapping the koopaling invasion. Alternatively, you could view it as the nes version being the play and the gba/snes versions being the actual events as those two got rid of some of the play elements
This. The events of Paper Mario 1 and PMTTYD (not sure about SPM) also actually happen, its just retellings of previous adventures through a storybook. Everything after that though is from the Paper Mario storybook where the "paper" characters actually live.
In this year I've learned that Luigi is Mario's TWIN brother!
I never thought they are twins but actually like 2 years apart or something. Sadly it's canon that they are twins but it pisses me off since I'm 36 and just learned it because of a question in The Chase
In the Korean build of Super Paper Mario, there's a ton of unused stuff, including a few maps that exist solely in 3D. This implies Super Paper Mario was originally planned to have a traditional Paper Mario setting.
What's more bizarre though are these strange cat people standing around some of these test levels. They can't be interacted with, so they were likely placeholders.
i know there are multiple yoshis, where is it implied that the dudes lay eggs though, because that would mean yoshis are asexual beings fricking weird and gross to think about this shit because its just a whimsical vidya character
i know there are multiple yoshis, where is it implied that the dudes lay eggs though, because that would mean yoshis are asexual beings fricking weird and gross to think about this shit because its just a whimsical vidya character
After giving it some thought, perhaps this means there are no male or female yoshis, there are simply yoshis. A sexless species, as you say.
This is pretty moronic and there's probably some official material that says otherwise, but it makes sense to me.
they are all just herms you dumb twat.
Or you can stop being moronic and realize exploding fireworks eggs can't be used for breeding whelps, thus all yoshi's make explosive eggs. but only females lay eggs with baby yoshis in them.
fricking moron.
There was an interview where they discussed this, they all laughed because Miyamoto and the rest see Yoshi as male but they're like "but he lays eggs...?" and they have a laugh. They clearly just don't care.
I would like to imagine they carried badly injured players off the field. Imagine winning a match of Mario Strikers because no one is left on the opposing side.
Paper Mario The Origami King did a reverse situation of Mario Kart, usually Mario kart might occasionally reference Paper Mario, but here, Origami King has a bunch of levels based on Mario Kart thematics.
Mario Kart Super Circuit had Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario in the background of its Rainbow Road
Mario Kart DS also had Goomba King/Goomboss appear as a boss fight in mission mode but that's because he was reused from SM64DS
ACKSHUALLY
Dry Dry Desert was originally a stage in Mario & Wario released in 1993
It returned in Mario Kart 64 but was called Kalimari Desert in the English releases and returned again in Paper Mario keeping its original name for the first time
This is actually a case of localization frickery. It's actually a name they have used often for many deserts in Mario games and they finally translated it correctly for Mario Kart Double Dash
to add to
ACKSHUALLY

here's all the "Dry Dry Deserts" of Mario:
>Mario & Wario (1993)
Karakara Sabaku (means Dry Dry Desert in Japanese) >Mario Kart 64 (1996)
Kalimari Desert (Dry Dry Desert in Japanese) >Paper Mario (2000)
Dry Dry Desert >Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (2003)
Dry Dry Desert >Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012)
Drybake Desert (Dry Dry Desert in Japanese)
The Mario series is not know for reoccurring locations so their constant use of Dry Dry Desert is very interesting?

I remember a long time ago this being brought up and someone posting beanbean and mushroom kingdoms not being connected by land, with the purple mountainy tutorial area that borders them all being floating in the air and not actually physically connecting the two lands.
I thought it was bullshit at first but some of the maps in the game supported the idea.
Of course the real explanation for the current mushroom kingdom landmass is Nintendo doesnt give a frick about consistent lore with old games or especially the rpgs and just wanted to do “haha mushroom” but thats not as fun to speculate about.

There's that but also in both the original and 3DS remake it shows some large body of water separating both kingdoms

One aspect of the movie I’m interested the most in seeing is how the Mushroom Kingdom is portrayed and where some locations such as Bowser’s Kingdom, whatever place the bros come from (assuming they are doing some sort of origin story), etc are in relation to the Mushroom Kingdom

I am very curious to what extent they’re going to dive into this aspect of the lore, the directors of the movie are known for doing obscure references in some of their other work, so I wonder how many references will Nintendo let them get away with…

That they are even removing locations near the Mushroom Kingdom and the perfect example was Delfino Isle and the other islands around it and can only be seen as an exploit in Odyssey so they are there just Nintendo wants you to forget them and only bring them up when it's convenient for them.

Kinda like Lost Kindom is near Yoshi's Island from afar you can see it so it's a small island that has been forgotten since it barely shows up in the map and the massive mainland outshines it.
the true reason why I think they removed Isle Delfino is probably because they didn't want people to think you could go there or be DLC. Didn't stop people, obviously, but it was likely to not make it seem like there is content that isn't there.
Yeah a lot of people think like that and go as "Sunshine DLC when?" non stop and then complain Nintendo cut off the DLC when that was never the intention. Well all the island are around it but as you said they are removed just so people don't ask them constantly about DLC.

Got an image? I’m not finding anything on this.
Speaking of zelda lore, i dont think hyrule is even a planet, its probably more like a flat earth or something like Middle Earth, existing in a astral plane rather then "space", essentially when the goddesses created "Hyrule" they created it as a singular dimensional space rather then what we think of as planets in a galaxy. Probably not canon but there was official sources back in the day claiming places like Termina were the creations of the goddeses but like unintended fragments of it, like if they were painting Hyrule and the droplets of paint fell off the canvas, those droplets would be alternate worlds like Termina. (I wanna say this was brought up in the US MM manual ir some NoA source)
Anyway, point is Hyrule is probably a flat, ever expanding world in its own multiverse connected to other similar worlds the goddesses created or unintentional created and not an actual planet.
I’ve come to a similar conclusion even if it’s a bit hard to justify. Just this feeling that Hyrule is a sort of ‘realm’ rather than a conventional world.
One of her moves from Super Mario RPG, mood swing blitz attack from super princess peach, pull out a huge turnip from mario advance and toss it or just fricking have her get possesed by the Shadow Queen and go psycho on the stage.
For whatever reason specific game references are mostly a nono for Mario characters in Smash, they try to keep them all pretty generalized unless referencing a mainline Mario platformer. Closest we have to any RPG reference is Peach using a parasol and frying pan, and those are pretty general if you aren’t specifically trying to find something RPG related.

In the development files for Super Mario World is this weird bird design. It's likely it was meant to hold a large cage Mario would be trapped in, based on unused files in the game's code.
A similar looking bird would later show up in Super Donkey, a scrapped SNES game. This boss uses the Super FX chip to squash and stretch its large belly.
This bird is very similar in color scheme and style of movement to this unused boss from Yoshi's Island. He would later transform into Hookbill the Koopa in Yoshi's Island's final release.
In Super Donkey, you had a stomp attack that causes little dust clouds to appear on both sides of you to attack enemies. This would appear 23 years later in Super Mario Maker by using the large Kuribo's Shoe.
They're similar looking but they're not exactly the same. Definitely looks the Mario Maker one was based on Super Donkey though. Weirdly the little dust cloud monsters look like what Yoshi babies used to look like.
So semi theory, but this character from Super Donkey looks almost exactly like Mr. YOU, the MC of the Arcade game Sky Skipper. Considering you fight apes in that game as well, maybe this was an intended connection to Super Donkey.
Also, Sky Skipper is unique for a Nintendo property in that it got a home release for the Atari 2600, but never a Nintendo console. Though it has some references in the Gameboy Camera.
That much seems obvious but I want to know if any more was planned for the story or what the main gameplay would be like beyond the rough prototype that was found

Probably because it was lost media for decades until Nintendo themselves fished a cabinet out of their personal company warehouse and ripped the original ROM
I like to think that super donkey was going to be a reimagining of nintendo's d-list properties with stanley and mr. you being merged into one with donkey kong at the forefront. That's not too farfetched, is it? People seem to think that donkey kong is tied too strongly to mario, but at the time of super donkey's development, DK was little more than the character in the arcade games. Mario's presence in the first two is also kind of understated, especially in donkey kong jr which nintendo wants you to forget happened. Nintendo had also been trying to do something different with him since at least the days of picrel.
This rabbit hole goes deep. it's sad that we will likely never get a concrete answer as to what the game was.
There was obviously an interest in reviving the Donkey Kong brand at the time. I have a feeling Super Donkey would have released alongside Donkey Kong 94 as an attempt to revive the series, but of course all of that was scrapped when the ip was given to Rare to make Donkey Kong Country. Mario is in the files too so I don't think they were really sure who was going to be the main character yet, and I guess we'll never know for sure since it was never finished.
>DK Jr. is the son of Donkey Kong from Arcade >Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong Country is the grandson for Cranky Kong, who is said to be the original Donkey Kong >ergo, current Donkey Kong is the son of DK Jr.
>Luigi is a coward because of his kidnapping in Yoshi's Island. This is why he didn't fight in Vietnam like Mario. >Wario has a crossover with Bomberman.
The game is a reskinned version of Bomberman GB, which was released in Japan in August 1994. The Wario series theme was exclusively added to Western releases. Aside from Wario's presence, the game is mostly unchanged and plays like other Bomberman titles. The Bomberman GB released in the West is actually the Japanese Bomberman GB 2.
>climb up the building DK is on and save Pauline >long jump to Bowser's castle and save Peach
This would actually take less time than only climbing Bowser's castle.
In Super Mario World's development files, Yoshi's House used to have a sign that said "DRAGON."
Also, there was an elderly blue Yoshi who has walking and talking sprites, which implies he would've been the NPC to tell you Yoshi had been captured by Bowser. In the final game, it's just a regular info box that tells you that.
This concept ended up making it into the final game, as the only dialogue from a character featured in the game besides Peach's HELP! text is from rescuing Yoshi for the first time.
In some early files for Super Mario World, the game was going to use a completely different no-outline style. One of the test sprites is a huge buzzy beetle, who ended up not getting used at all.
In some of the Gigaleak files, there's sprites of a large building that is filled with Nintendo characters, which includes some things like a horny Bowser, Toad smoking, Mario naked, and Yoshi taking off his saddle.
This may have been used for something like an inhouse newsletter, similar to Sega Harmony.
So this confirmed SMBDX was the first of what eventually became the Mario Advance series. Which makes perfect sense as to why we got 2, 3, World, and "World 2" for Advance games but not 1 (and the original 2).
Cranky Kong can't actually be the original Donkey Kong because not even in gorilla years does it make sense for him to be an old man while Mario and Pauline don't look any older. Rare puts zero thought into the stories of their games and that trait unfortunately carried over here.
The games were developed by Rare and published by Nintendo.
>n-not canon!
Sounds like COPE from seething dicklets being exposed to the truth https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/4780035/super-marios-penis-exposed-in-comic-strip-thats-shocked-nintendo-fans/ I literally cannot find this picture in a non WEBP format, even the "open image in new tab" trick isn't working frick webp
If it wasnt canon, Nintendo would not have stopped using the old DK design, last seen in Donkey Kong gameboy, and started using the modern Rare DK design pretty much forever forward. Current DK design is not Nintendos, its still the biggest piece of Rare legacy still with the company.
Anyone else view mario 64 ds and nsmb ds as the super mario advance 5 duology, 64 ds is a remake just like the advance series and nsmb ds was made based on the ideas for an advance 5 that was an entirely new game, not to mention both share a lot of assets and even minigames.

Yeah. SMBDX, the Advance series, and 64 DS are all part of the same series of remakes that eventually culminated in the "New" Super Mario Bros series. In that sense, they're "New" because the developers finally went from remaking the old titles to making something original, i.e. literally a new Mario game.
I think that it would make sense for Peach to meet the bros (or at least Mario) before she gets kidnapped, it would certainly give Mario motivation to go and save her. Heck, this is something that the 1986 movie did.
One of her moves from Super Mario RPG, mood swing blitz attack from super princess peach, pull out a huge turnip from mario advance and toss it or just fricking have her get possesed by the Shadow Queen and go psycho on the stage.
Just Like Young Link should have called the Moon down on everyone and Toon Link should have flooded the entire stage while riding on KoR. Also Mario should have a wave a viruses infect everyone.
It's probably common knowledge by now, but Daisy has a 3rd eye on her trophy in Melee. What might not be common knowledge, is that in one cutscene of Sunshine, Peach's earing are replaced with her eye texture.
>It is well known that Daisy's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee has an eye hidden at the back of her head. The eye texture is actually tiled across the entirety of her head, and the developers made the copies invisible, missing one in the back. Below, all eyes are made visible.
I always thought that the Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule were 2 different continents of the same world until Super Mario Odyssey. There's no many references and cameos between the 2 games.
I know, but there were hidden pictures of Mario and Friends in Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, Link ape eared in Mario RPG and Mario Kart. Plus a bunch of other small details made me think they live on the same world.
Doesn't the Wind Waker prove that Hyrule exists on a world? Islands appear and disappear over the horizon. This wouldn't be possible on a flat realm

In Mario Sunshine in the Japanese version if you collect exactly 67 shine sprites and then clip out of bounds on the Gelato Beach and you go to the far left bottom of the map you can see a toad underground with one line of dialogue which is translated to "don't hurt me anymore I'm scared."

And Mario is Italian, Luigi is French and Wario is German.
how can Luigi be French if he is Mario's twin brother? also it's true people keep on forgetting that Wario is German, really sad.
Wario is actually Alto Adigean/South Tyrolean.
How did Waluigi's name being Jimmy never take off as a meme?

Wait, is this actually real canon involving Waluigi? Or is this satire?

a few fun facts about Waluigi and Jimmy T.
>Jimmy is Wario's closest friend in Warioware, when calling people, Jimmy is always the first person he calls
>Jimmy says that him and Wario quote: "Go way back"
>In Game & Wario, Jimmy's card is even said that he's rumored to be friends with Wario since childhood
>Jimmy T's stage in wario games are nearly always sports themed, each microgame will showcase some type of sport
>Waluigi is most known for his role in sports games, even Sakurai who hates him includes his tennis racket, considering that a part of his character
>Unlike Wario who can kind of be gross but manly, Waluigi actually tries to be a ladies' man, often seen carrying a rose
>Jimmy is also a ladies' man, although he has never been seen with a rose, the rose is actually one of his most favored "prezzies" in Get it Together
>In Mario Golf World Tour, Waluigi literally disco dances with disco lights and everything
>as a joke in a Nintendo Power magazine Waluigi is stated to be played by an actor named Jimmy
>In Warioware snapped Jimmy's stage theme is acting
As a kid I always assumed Jimmy was a Waluigi stand-in because they weren't allowed to use Waluigi for whatever reason.
At one point, when his girlfriend said he cares more about dancing than her, he breaks out to dance because "the music made him do it", in Gold he thought he encountered fan girls to take pictures of him, turns out they were only interested in the cat
yes, my theory is that Waluigi is actually just an act, Jimmy is his real persona
I'm not just talking about women anon, I'm talking about general mannerisms, Jimmy is actually cool, Waluigi is a fricking loser.
Jimmy is who Waluigi wishes he could be.
So you're saying that all of his family is also just wearing wigs? Whats the deal with that. Sounds like an inconsistency.
Yes, multiple times Jimmy's afro is shown to be a wig
It is also possible that Jimmy is intentionally trying to be lame to add to the act
Any difference between any character can be explained as an act, there's a lot of similar characters in the Mario universe, that doesn't mean they're the same person.
Will they finally merger in Smash ?
If what you're implying is true then that means Waluigi has a full family.
>X character is actually Y character
Always hate these moronic theories, like the other anon said, Jimmy was probably just made because they weren't allowed to use Waluigi, so they made a completely new character that eventually even got his own recolor.
it's utterly mystifying that waluigi is the one character that isn't allowed into a wario game
Pretty sure Waluigi appears in WarioWare Gold via the amiibo feature
It's just a theory, MAYBE the WarioWare team didn't want to have any pre-existing character but Wario, and simply made Jimmy without even actively thinking of Waluigi, maybe it was one big coincidence, who knows?
I could be wrong on this, though.
>characters are similar
>"THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON"
Actual autistic behavior, Jimmy is simply an expy of Waluigi, just like Daisy was of Peach, and Luigi was of Mario.

The M on Mario's cap stands for Meatball, Mario's favorite food.

Why the frick are boomers using Ganker? What are you, the gaming grandpa?
>What are you, the gaming grandpa?
I would of been your father had the dog not beaten me up the stairs.
> Would of
Fricking zoomer
I'm almost certain peach is a few years younger than Mario and Luigi. In Partners in time M&L are clearly toddlers able to walk on two feet, while peach is still crawling on all fours. So I'd say peach is like 22-23
In a similar way, while Mario and the others are all straight up babies, Bowser is able to talk and do more things on his own, so he's probably a bit older than Mario.
Yeah I think that too. Also might as well say Waluigi is 24 too, since his melee trophy says he's the same age as Luigi
Damn, lucky for Jr. to have such a youthful and active father. That makes their interactions all the more sweeter.
What about the Koopalings?
We see the storks deliver them all at the same time. ALL the Mario characters are the same age.
She's just a lazy b***h
Mario Party is its own canon, and the latest entry Mario Party Superstars is a direct sequel to the N64 games (not a remake or a compilation).
Superstars has remade boards and minigames, but the actual mechanics of the game itself is unique to the game, despite being heavily based on the older games.
The intro to the boards reference the events of the N64 games, like how Horror Land had an evil wizard being thwarted by the superstars, or how Woody Woods apparently was a battle field with no victors.
Mario grows if he eats a mushroom
Toads are an asexual race that take on gendered characteristics, according to Hayashida in a Captain Toad interview
The only reason this sticks out to me is because it was such a weirdly specific bit of lore that came out almost entirely unprompted. It's like "Nintendo confirms Waluigi is uncircumcised" but real.
Wait..
Does this mean Toadette is just a Toad who said "frick it I'm a girl"
how many Toadettes are there??
Basically, since to a Toad, who are fungi, gender is entirely arbitrary.
lol makes sense but fricking weird choice honestly. but something they've always thought about the toads but never came out and said, i get that feeling
There's actually multiple "toadettes" in one of the drawings on Galaxy's opening, then never acknowledged again as if that was lore we weren't supposed to see
The Japanese description for Yoshi's trophy in Smash Bros Melee says Yoshi is "neither male nor female." too
Well that one makes a little more sense because Yoshi is traditionally addressed with male pronouns in English, but he also lays eggs.
Ah yes, you make a good point. Didn't think of that one.
I always thought Yoshi was more of a name of its species.
It's both the species name and the individual's name, same with Toad
I've always hated this. It's needlessly ambiguous. The character "Kamek" is largely a fandom creation and there's no reason to assume any Magikoopa not directly shown with a young Bowser is The Kamek. NOA in the past decade figured out they can just stop localizing the name to "Magikoopa" and keep fans happy that way.
>The character "Kamek" is largely a fandom creation
Indeed but Japanese have seemingly adopted it since NSMB
>"Kamek" in many games is now shown to be close to Bowser and Bowser Jr.
>Has a unique design element of riding a broomstick, something generic Magikoopas do not do (there are exceptions but can be easily explained)
>The character "Kamek" is largely a fandom creation
Nope, the character Kamek is a NoJ creation, he's just meant to be THE Kamek, with NoA making Kamek his name, and Magikoopa the species.
He's saying that it's very likely that Kamek in Yoshi's Island was originally intended to be just a generic Magikoopa. over time due to NoA distinguishing him JP adopted it fully by NSMB
>it's very likely that Kamek in Yoshi's Island was originally intended to be just a generic Magikoopa
They're not?
Toads have genders
>On November 17, 2014, the gaming website GameSpot posted an article featuring a segment of an interview with Koichi Hayashida, the producer of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
Bowser's brother.
Shut up. No.
Holy shit it's real.
Behold! The brother of Bowser.
>Super Mario Bros 2/Lost Levels establishes some of Luigi's iconic differences from Mario, his poorer traction and ability to jump higher, which would be retained in SMB2 where he's slower and weaker but retains his better jumps
>SMBLL also introduces Bowser's brother
>literally never referenced again outside of palette swaps, even though Bowser having a partner like how Mario gets paired up with Luigi or Peach would have been useful even in the pre-Bowser Jr. days.
I assumed he was just another Fake Bowser.
If you shoot fireballs at him he doesn't change into anything else upon death.
Does he have an actual name or is he just "Bowser's brother"?
I know some people think he's Morton Sr. and that Bowser just adopted his son Morton Koopa Jr. after Mario killed him.
It's never stated.
Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels) manual just calls him 'Bowser's brother' it's never been mentioned again since.
Morton Koopa Sr.?
They also just call him "The Blue Bowser" so its probably like a Yoshi/Toad-type situation where the main character is called their species name (The main Bowser is Bowser)
Makes sense but I always thought that Koopa has his species.
El Hermano De Bowser
So is her Morton Koopa Sr.? That would mean the heavy implication of Bowser naming of of his son (former now thanks to Miyamoto) after his death in memory of him.
>Her
Fricking typo!
Why do they add shit like this? Every boo mansion level in 3D Land has a creepy face that appears at the beginning or end of the level of you stay stationary for a minute.
It reminds me of the creepy figures from Mario Galaxy.
in 3D World on one of the ghost house levels if you wait for the timer to get to like 20 seconds remaining a bunch of ghostly 8-bit Luigi sprites rise from their graves and start running towards a church in the background
I believe there was also some binoculars you could look through in a level and see a UFO zip by. I wish more Mario games had shit like that
What do they meeeeeeean
Just some bored dev having a laugh probably
Someone on Ganker found Charles Martinet on some gay website and posted his dick pic here. The anon felt bad and deleted it.
Charles Martinet is a funny guy and really did just seem to stumble into the role of a lifetime. You should see some of the stuff he was doing before he landed the role of Mario.
You're going to have to source this. I refuse to believe it
Hello? Do you recall which site it was?
Did you also know the word 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary?
You're right, it's stamped on my dick, come take a look
I'll need a microscope for that
There's no way this is real because if it was other anons would be reposting it constantly going "OH NO NO NO NINTENBROS"
I searched in the archives and there are a few posts from 2017 and 2016 talking about it, they say it happened a few years prior. I just searched all 66 year old men in California on silverdaddies.com and didn't find him...
>I just searched all 66 year old men in California on silverdaddies.com and didn't find him...
Based gay dating sleuth anon
I remember seeing this, I can confirm it's true.
How did they get a picture of his Warp Pipe? Dating sites don't let you just have those out in the open. Did some c**t fricking catfish him? It just isn't believable.
It was a more of a sex site than dating site.
>plumbr
But yeah, it's just not believable, the catalog would have been flooded with reposts of Mario's Picross every day for weeks if it really happened. There'd be Kotaku articles about Nintendo DMCA'ing the photo.
I can assure you it was real. There's people talking about it for years in the archives. I know for a fact I had it saved on my old laptop (unless I deleted it during the porn purge I did). I will check if I can get it to boot when I get time. It's now my goal to find this picture of his wiener
>There's people talking about it for years in the archives
'Martinet wiener' and 'Martinet dick' don't turn up a thing outside of this thread.
Do "martinet hookup" "martinet craigslist" I literally just saw posts earlier.
Okay
https://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/337409642/#337420280
So it's something allegedly from 2012 that wouldn't have any evidence left to support it. So it's effectively a ghost story. There's no reason to buy it. If it is real, the evidence is simply gone, which is for the best.
Mario doesn't actual grow large when he eats a mushroom. He is hallucinating.
Bowser's Castle from SMRPG can be seen in Mario Power Tennis in the Mecha-Bowser Mayhem minigame
Wow, that is actually really cool, did not know that.
In the same vein, Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario appears in Super Circuit's Rainbow Road
You think Square told them to frick off since they apparently also own any new designs from SMRPG
Daisy is Peach's cousin.
Peach is a glutton.
But she's skinny.
any MORE evidence?
>"Glutton" was the word in Japanese he used to describe Princess Peach. "I was thinking they could have these big ships come in, and they've got these big chains all over them, and they drop a plate down with cake on it," he said.
hot
Is the Mushroom Kingdom still in the clouds like in Mario Tennis: Power Tour?
The only other Paper Mario game to be referenced in other titles besides PM64 is TTYD, with Twilight House from Mario Kart DS/Wii being based on Twilight Town, right down to the sky coloration and moon hanging over the sky
I mean it is a floating island in Odyssey
I never got to Odyssey, I'm a couple consoles behind.
Just emulate it honestly
I do!
I'm just busy with Mario RPG.
the kingdoms in odyssey aren't supposed to actually be floating, that's just for gameplay purposes
Speaking of Mario land 2, there’s an argument to be made that the first two Mario party games are what set Mario land 1 and 2 into motion
>going off of what Wario says in Mario party 2’s intro, Wario earned the title of superstar in Mario party 1, leading to him feeling entitled to the privilege of the land
>Mario ends up taking the title of superstar from wario in Mario party 2 as seen by Mario being the one standing on top of bowser in the ending as if he was the one who bested him as well as the fact that the name of the land is Mario land
>having lost both his title of superstardom and the land that he feels was owed to him, he decides to take over Mario land when Mario is off saving daisy from tatanga
This also ties into how daisy appeared in Mario party 3 but not 1 or 2 as she hadn’t met Mario and the rest of the gang yet
Less of a fact and more of a question, are dinosaur land and the cascade kingdom one and the same?
No
Dinosaur Land is its own landmass, thats where Yoshi's Island is. Even though the Map in Odyssey is super inconsistant.
to follow up on this;
>The Japanese Shogakukan guide for the game Yoshi features an origin story for Dinosaur Land.
I'll let you draw your own conclusion
>no princess Shokora
>rosalina that short
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Mario canonically had only 2 girlfriends, Daisy and Pauline and was kissed by 5 female creatures while Luigi got nothing, even Wario kissed one princess of their own
She has the power to grow and shrink at will, its fine
Daisy has never been Mario's girlfriend as far as I know, only Pauline.
He gave Daisy to his brother.
They don't have any canonical text saying they are a couple
Well there is that one statue in Mario Kart Wii of Daisy and Luigi dancing together
>they never talked with each other
>no story confirming their relationship
>no kiss
>this statue is the only thing connecting these two characters
They also get a special pose in the Olympics.
But yeah, most of their "relationship" is fanon.
Daily reminder that this is a canon couple according to Sega.
No, this is just a render, nothing else.
It's heavily implied they are a couple. Sega knew what they were doing.
>It's heavily implied they are a couple.
No, it isn't, you dolt, it's just one of multiple renders with Mario and Sonic characters interacting, there's also one with Shadow and DK, and another one with Luigi, Waluigi, Silver, and Tails.
The only characters to get any kind of ship bait are
, since they're ones who get special poses when paired up, pairing other characters (like Luigi and Shadow for example) and you won't get any special pose.
I honestly wouldn’t mind this being a couple, they look like they’d be happy together
Amy is a child, Mario is an adult.
>sega cucks their mascot with their oldest rival
Don't even have words.
Daisy openly flirts with Luigi in two tennis games.
define "canonical" by Mario standards. Does it need to be something that appears in a game or anything official by Nintendo? Is any spinoff acceptable or only specific ones?
Behold. The only queen in the Mario universe
>implying

DEEPEST NON-CANON LORE
>shorter by a head
> mario shrinks by a head when he goes from big to little mario
DEEPEST LORE?
I ment humanoid like daisy, peach, shokora all tend to be princess but admittedly I did forget about that rotund beautiful bee
Ahem~
That's a bean.
IT'S HIP
Wow, is this was the honey queen’s actual design, a lot more people would like her
>skinny
GROSS
THAT'S NOT MY R-R-R-R-R-R-R-OTUND GODDESS.
Mario had his own run of comics in the German equivalent of Nintendo Power
Reading that comic for the first time is a wild fricking ride
Want that The one where Mario teams up with Eminem to defeat Cthulhu?
show me
das rayciss
Isn’t TT in Diddy Kong Racing or am I so old now my brain has melted?
Yes, the German comics often included characters from other games.
yep
T.T. does actually exist in the Mario world because Diddy Kong does too right?
Wario Facts from various sources
>he claims that the reason for his immortality is purely because he doesn't feel like dying
Wario the absolute CHAD
He actually washes his clothes more often than I thought
>The 1986 Japanese choose-your-own-adventure book "Another Romance of Super Mario Bros." is unique in that a license was obtained only for Mario himself, but not for any other elements of the franchise; leading to him starring in a story with original medieval fantasy characters.
I also read Supper Mario Broth.
Magazine exclusive lore.
Cute!
He also met Plok too, right?
Yes, a lot of the German comics included crossovers or other oddities that would probably need to pass some sort of copyright to get made in North America.
I believe it. I mean didn't dragon ball z have a crossover with Hitler at some point?
Fusion Reborn
Goten & Trunks meet Hitler.
>I believe it.
Seeing is believing and there's no way to not believe this when it actually happened.
>Tickling Chun
>Not barefoot

>Uses SMRPG characters and locations despite being released in 2006
>Has an OC, a sorceress named Cybele, who is never illustrated or used again
>Comes with stickers; one of which is a Bob-Omb render that was never used elsewhere
I remember this book, I took the stickers and made my own story book with them
Yo! I have a copy of that somewhere still if I'm not mistaken, I bought it from a book fair
That Mario and Luigi are twins besides a lot of people still believing Luigi is way younger.
Unused enemy from Super Mario Odyssey
Luigi is the younger twin.
Yes, but not younger like John Leguizemo to Bob Hoskins.
Weren't those guys in Captain Toad?
They were.
Have some actual Odyssey concept art as a mistake apology. It's my understanding that the game went though many revisions before becoming what it is.
cute
When the Mario enemy is sus.
Luigi being the younger twin is a reference to him being a palette swap created 2 years later
Every twin has someone who was born out first and after, but a lot of the mainstream media still believe they have different ages.
I get that but Luigi's has a meta reasoning behind it
Super Mario RPG had plush toys created for it, including one for Mallow and Boshi. No Geno though.
And there's only two Mallow plushies that were found (as opposed to the tons of Mario, Boshi and item plushies) so what most people believe is that he was just a prototype and never actually released.
Mario is also the last name.
The full name of the Mario brothers are Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
Mario and Luigi are plumbers.
So what's the chances we would have seen Banjo show up in more Mario and Donkey Kong games if Microsoft didn't buy Rare?
Probably extremely likely. They probably would've been seen as one big world like how DKC, Wario Land, Yoshi, etc. are all seen as in the Mario universe.
>all of these characters are playable in Smash Bros.
>except HE
How big is Wario's mannschaft?
Canonically, big enough to impress Peach while Mario's is small enough to embarass her. Wario chads win again
>Canonically
The manga is very obviously not canon, anon.
>n-not canon!
>Wariogays are too moronic to convert image formats
Whatever makes you happier dude.
>Yoshi getting turned into a Black person
>Wario making deals with Satan
>Luigi getting pissed on by dogs
>Mario gets bestowed the power to turn toilet scrubbers into zippers on him by fricking Eminem
>Mario knocks over the Twin Towers
>Kirby is covered in literal cowshit for half a comic
Club Nintendo comics were wild.
Extremely likely, DK Pilot was going to include Mario and BK characters plus Tooie straight up name dropping Mario.
The Blocks are people.
I wish Bowser used his black magic more often.
If Peach has the power to turn the bricks back to normal, then why are there still bricks everywhere?
They were people, I believe they've been retconned into just being regular blocks by now.
Only the ? blocks and hidden item blocks are Toads, the bricks are just bricks
they became their own species
>Only the ? blocks and hidden item blocks are Toads
They aren't anymore, that plot point has been completely dropped and has never come back again.
>He wasted so much time/money on perfecting the feeling of the controls
Oh that's why Sunshine sucks.
Mario has a medium-sized dick, around 14-15 cm aprox. I want to suck his dick so hard he will scream: "Mamma mia Anon!" While cumming in my fat, disgusting ashole.
This texture of a pineal gland is found in Super Mario 64. It is not known what it would have been used for.
>It's a painting texture
>Mario was going to travel into someone's mind's eye
what the frick is this even from since I remember seeing it on Ganker forever ago
it's not real so don't even worry about it.
The goyim must never know.
It's a stone. He didn't make it.
But he chiseled it?!
I need to make a chart, I've been thinking a lot about which Mario games are "real" and which ones are just an "act" ever since Mario 3 was confirmed to be a play
Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 and Odyssey are the only canon. All 2D games + World and Land are non-canon. That's how I see it.
No, it's more complicated than that. I believe here is the true, actual canon for "real" games.
>Donkey Kong
>Donkey Kong Junior
>Mario Brothers
>Super Mario Land 1 and 2
>Super Mario Brothers
>Super Mario World
>Super Mario 64
>Luigi's Mansion
and I'll write down my theory is to why
2 is a Dream
Mario is Missing is Canon.
From BS Super Mario USA:
>After the events of Super Mario Bros.
Okay it's another dimension like Magicant.
You convinced me.
So, for other games
>What about Mario Party/Kart/Sport?
Friendly gatherings with the "actors". The fact we have a Bowser that isn't actually trying to kill you, and instead get up to mischief means this is not the real King Koopa, but rather the Bowser actor in Mario 3.
>What about Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3?
Not developed by Nintendo. But nonetheless, nothing seems to directly contradict these ideas
>What about Super Mario Sunshine?
TV drama. The missions are instead called "episodes"
>What about NSMB?
Broadway musicals. The evidence for this is incredibly simple: Everything dances to the soundtrack
Go away MatPat.
What about Galaxy?
Galaxy is weird, I don't want to give an answer either way. Nothing seems wrong with the first game but 2 makes absolutely no sense to include. It would take place 100 years after Galaxy 1 since the Star Festival happens every 100 years. It's the Mario equivalent of Halley's comet
Couldn't find a pic with the Gamecube version showing the mansion
>mario characters are over 100 years old in galaxy 2
My theory is that since the universe got reset after galaxy 1, that also fricked with the star festival and galaxy 2 only takes place like a year later because the stardust got reset too or something, either that or stardust falls more often than a century in this new reset universe
isn't 2 an alternate universe to 1
What about Hotel Mario?
But pic is Mario Kart DS.
Mario Kart Double Dash shows Luigi got the A rank mansion, but Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon shows he got the D rank
Dark Moon treats Mario Kart as canon though since he gets the Poltergust 5000 in that game while the previous models were 3000 (Luigi's Mansion) and 4000 (Mario Kart DS)
Maybe luigi didn’t like having such a big house so he downsized
Throwing out some more evidence, King Boo also says in Super Mario 64 DS:
After being defeated by Luigi: "Eee hee hee! We ghosts always rise from the dead. I just love the look of terror on your face! In fact, I live for it! Eee hee hee! See you soon!"
>See you soon!
This might be a reference to when he later meets him in Luigi's Mansion, and SM64 is supposed to happen before that.
>Mario can't be born by the stork for a simple reason: His nipples. Nipples in men are entirely vestigial, and are a byproduct of how babies develop in utero.
He's a cartoon character moron, babies that get delivered by the stork still have nipples, go back to Game Theory, MatPat loves moronic theories like this.
Donkey Kong Circus, Cement Factory, Bombs Away and some other G&W stuff would probably predate Donkey Kong.
Mario 3 is real, it just has stageplay visuals. Super Mario World directly references it with the crashed airship
Yeah it could just a retelling of the actual event.
considering that Mario Advance removes a lot of the stageplay aspects im convinced its real
Super Mario Advance 4 is just a port of the All-Stars remake of SMB3.
A porn parody of Mario was made, named "Super Hornio Bros"
Nintendo got so mad they bought the rights to that movie, and proceeded to purge it from existence
This means that there's an official, licensed porn movie about Mario
I remember the time Ganker streamed it over a decade ago
He run right, jump.
Mario is a Thalidomide baby.
MARIO IS A Black person!
MAN, I REALLY GOTTA DUMP ASS
Where do Galoombas fit into this? Aren't Galoombas the native goombas on Dinosaur Land (Where Yoshi's Island resides)?
Galoombas don't appear in any Yoshi's Island games. Without going into theory territory, the only thing we really know about them is that they work for Bowser. It could be possible that they were native to some unseen part of Dinosaur Land and were later drafted into Bowser's Army but there really is not much evidence going for or against it.
A Civil War?
Does it count as a civil war when they're working for an entirely different kingdom?
So xenophobia/racism?
What about all the friendly goombas in Paper Mario?
Betraying the betrayers.
I think there's only like 7 friendly goombas in the Paper Mario games actually?
Those ones just didn't betray the Mushroom Kingdom like their brethren.
Mario fought in 'nam
In this year I've learned that Luigi is Mario's TWIN brother!
I never thought they are twins but actually like 2 years apart or something. Sadly it's canon that they are twins but it pisses me off since I'm 36 and just learned it because of a question in The Chase
Never played Yoshi's island?
>fun facts
Vivian will never be a woman.
This is really cool, I wonder why it's only in the Korean build
Maybe localization got branched off before they did some final cleanup on the JP version versions
ive been holding on to this for ages and nobody seems to agree
but
>yoshi is female
i mean
she literally lays eggs like what the frick how come she is always referred to as male and everyone thinks of it as a he
Yoshi is a species bro
And it is implied even the male Yoshis lay eggs
i know there are multiple yoshis, where is it implied that the dudes lay eggs though, because that would mean yoshis are asexual beings fricking weird and gross to think about this shit because its just a whimsical vidya character
After giving it some thought, perhaps this means there are no male or female yoshis, there are simply yoshis. A sexless species, as you say.
This is pretty moronic and there's probably some official material that says otherwise, but it makes sense to me.
I honestly think Yoshi eggs are just a weird kind of poop.
they are all just herms you dumb twat.
My theory is that all Yoshi's can lay eggs as self defense (for throwing) but only females can lay eggs that have baby Yoshi's
Um males can give birth too, biggot.
It's 2022 not 1920s
Ever seen a male seahorse give birth?
In Mario Strikers, there are unused Medics who use the design of the Dull Bones from the Paper Mario series.
also, there are robots in every single strikers game
>super team playable in first one
>makes a cameo in charged's credits
>futbot in battle league
This is actually the first fact here I didn't know about
wonder what they woulda done.
I would like to imagine they carried badly injured players off the field. Imagine winning a match of Mario Strikers because no one is left on the opposing side.
Backgrounding?
That's actually pretty neat.
Had no idea about that.
Paper Mario The Origami King did a reverse situation of Mario Kart, usually Mario kart might occasionally reference Paper Mario, but here, Origami King has a bunch of levels based on Mario Kart thematics.
When has mario kart referenced paper mario?
Mario Kart Super Circuit had Bowser's Castle from Paper Mario in the background of its Rainbow Road
Mario Kart DS also had Goomba King/Goomboss appear as a boss fight in mission mode but that's because he was reused from SM64DS
Dry Dry Desert is in MKDD
ACKSHUALLY
Dry Dry Desert was originally a stage in Mario & Wario released in 1993
It returned in Mario Kart 64 but was called Kalimari Desert in the English releases and returned again in Paper Mario keeping its original name for the first time
This is actually a case of localization frickery. It's actually a name they have used often for many deserts in Mario games and they finally translated it correctly for Mario Kart Double Dash
to add to
here's all the "Dry Dry Deserts" of Mario:
>Mario & Wario (1993)
Karakara Sabaku (means Dry Dry Desert in Japanese)
>Mario Kart 64 (1996)
Kalimari Desert (Dry Dry Desert in Japanese)
>Paper Mario (2000)
Dry Dry Desert
>Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (2003)
Dry Dry Desert
>Paper Mario: Sticker Star (2012)
Drybake Desert (Dry Dry Desert in Japanese)
The Mario series is not know for reoccurring locations so their constant use of Dry Dry Desert is very interesting?
Japanese:
カラカラ砂漠 (Mario & Wario/Sticker Star)
カラカラさばく (MK64/Paper Mario/Double Dash)
They also made sure to include a desert in Odyssey's depiction of the Mushroom Kingdom continent
>Beanbean Kingdom is technically on that landmass somewhere
Beanbean is probably a tiny bean shaped island somewhere on the western coast
Sarasaland, Yoshi's Island, Mario Land and Dinosaur Land are all nearby as well
I remember a long time ago this being brought up and someone posting beanbean and mushroom kingdoms not being connected by land, with the purple mountainy tutorial area that borders them all being floating in the air and not actually physically connecting the two lands.
The fact that the foreman spike character from wrecking crew is going to be in it leaves me with no doubt in my mind that they're going to go over the early games
> it leaves me with no doubt in my mind that they're going to go over the early games
I am very curious to what extent they’re going to dive into this aspect of the lore, the directors of the movie are known for doing obscure references in some of their other work, so I wonder how many references will Nintendo let them get away with…
Will Kirby appear to kick off the NCU?
That they are even removing locations near the Mushroom Kingdom and the perfect example was Delfino Isle and the other islands around it and can only be seen as an exploit in Odyssey so they are there just Nintendo wants you to forget them and only bring them up when it's convenient for them.
I think Isle Delfino and its nearby Islands are near Luncheon Kingdom.
Kinda like Lost Kindom is near Yoshi's Island from afar you can see it so it's a small island that has been forgotten since it barely shows up in the map and the massive mainland outshines it.
Yeah a lot of people think like that and go as "Sunshine DLC when?" non stop and then complain Nintendo cut off the DLC when that was never the intention. Well all the island are around it but as you said they are removed just so people don't ask them constantly about DLC.
>Kinda like Lost Kindom is near Yoshi's Island from afar you can see it
Got an image? I’m not finding anything on this.
I’ve come to a similar conclusion even if it’s a bit hard to justify. Just this feeling that Hyrule is a sort of ‘realm’ rather than a conventional world.
For whatever reason specific game references are mostly a nono for Mario characters in Smash, they try to keep them all pretty generalized unless referencing a mainline Mario platformer. Closest we have to any RPG reference is Peach using a parasol and frying pan, and those are pretty general if you aren’t specifically trying to find something RPG related.
the true reason why I think they removed Isle Delfino is probably because they didn't want people to think you could go there or be DLC. Didn't stop people, obviously, but it was likely to not make it seem like there is content that isn't there.
What does Sarasaland look like?
Near Bean Valley?
There isn't really a good aerial depiction of Sarasaland but personally I like to think it's shaped like Daisy's six-petal flower emblem
I almost certain the landmass underneath seaside kingdom on Odyssey's map is where Sarasaland is
>Seaside Kingdom is French Riviera.
So is Daisy Algerian?
none of the old game areas would be anywhere near the Odyssey continents because they don't have mushrooms
those biomes are all beautiful; I'm a sucker for the maple autumn styled levels personally.
I think itd be neat if they brought back super donkey one day, I’ve always thought that mr you and stanley the bugman should make a comeback
Does Mario even know about Stanley's existence?
The gif is cut off too short, the dust from the goombas shoe also fades out similarly
I really wish we knew more about Super Donkey
my theory is that had they kept the protagonist as Mario it would have been an origin story of Mario & DK's first encounter before Donkey Kong Arcade
That much seems obvious but I want to know if any more was planned for the story or what the main gameplay would be like beyond the rough prototype that was found
>the mario movie is just Super Donkey in 3d
Ever since this shit got leaked, I've been obsessed with this game.
Surely there had to be some connection here.
I never heard of this game before this thread. Amazing, thanks Ganker.
Probably because it was lost media for decades until Nintendo themselves fished a cabinet out of their personal company warehouse and ripped the original ROM
Are ROM images dumped or ripped?
>personal company warehouse
It was literally in the NoA break room
>Toad on the cake
Mariobros... Bowsersisters... explain this
Bowser’s brother served in the Great Ape War and was the one who shot and killed Donkey Kong Junior.
>Donkey Kong Junior.
Donkey Kong Jr is canonically DK from DK country, isnt he?
No, DK Jr is current DK's father
Yes.
& Cranky was the original.
>Yes.
Wrong.
Nope, Rare fricked that up. Donkey Kong Junior is current DK's father
And it makes me seethe
Junior became DK.
END OF DISCUSSION!
I think that Nintendo retconned that recently. I have no source, but some other anons in this thread seem to agree.
No are you fricking moronic?
>DK Jr. is the son of Donkey Kong from Arcade
>Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong Country is the grandson for Cranky Kong, who is said to be the original Donkey Kong
>ergo, current Donkey Kong is the son of DK Jr.
Read the Donkey Kong Country manual
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
No, as the other Anon said, DK Jr. is current DK’s father.
Dirty ~~*Kremling*~~ frick.
What did happen to Junior (II)?
The Great Ape War has NEVER been a thing, shut the frick up.
>Luigi is a coward because of his kidnapping in Yoshi's Island. This is why he didn't fight in Vietnam like Mario.
>Wario has a crossover with Bomberman.
I really want to know how this shit even came to be. It's not even a big change from the game it's based off, just a simple sprite swap with Wario.
wario sold better than bomberman. I'm assuming Nintendo and Hudson had a fairly decent relationship, so maybe they struck a deal.
if hudson secured the rights to make Super Mario Bros. Special, they had to be close
But what about TurboGrafx-16?
what about it?
It's a Hudson Soft console, competing with the Super NES, released after SMBS.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Hudson Soft is strange, I dunno.
In Super Mario World, a cut design for the Special World Koopas was to have big fake Lemmy Koopa heads.
>climb up the building DK is on and save Pauline
>long jump to Bowser's castle and save Peach
This would actually take less time than only climbing Bowser's castle.
Double Cherry.
unless the layout is the exact same one will just wind up dying
In Super Mario World's development files, Yoshi's House used to have a sign that said "DRAGON."
Also, there was an elderly blue Yoshi who has walking and talking sprites, which implies he would've been the NPC to tell you Yoshi had been captured by Bowser. In the final game, it's just a regular info box that tells you that.
This concept ended up making it into the final game, as the only dialogue from a character featured in the game besides Peach's HELP! text is from rescuing Yoshi for the first time.
Dinosaur and Dragon are very similar terms in Japanese so when translated are often interchangeable
Yeah, the Yoshi Coins were called Dragon Coins in the manual.
Someone tell me Nintendo's CURRENT stance on the whole Cranky, DK, and DK Jr. thing.
In some early files for Super Mario World, the game was going to use a completely different no-outline style. One of the test sprites is a huge buzzy beetle, who ended up not getting used at all.
Looks almost prerendered. I kinda like it.
mario if he sega
wow that looks really nice
In some of the Gigaleak files, there's sprites of a large building that is filled with Nintendo characters, which includes some things like a horny Bowser, Toad smoking, Mario naked, and Yoshi taking off his saddle.
This may have been used for something like an inhouse newsletter, similar to Sega Harmony.
Mario Party 4's Present Room is fun
Why did they shit on Luigi so much
DK room is wholesome
How and why did a Goomba build a table for Daisy?
https://voca.ro/1arSKE3VVOEO
Based on an unused voice clip, we know that Super Mario Advance was originally called "Super Mario Bros Deluxe 2"
So this confirmed SMBDX was the first of what eventually became the Mario Advance series. Which makes perfect sense as to why we got 2, 3, World, and "World 2" for Advance games but not 1 (and the original 2).
Peach looks asian as fuk
And then we got Super Mario 64 DS.
In Link's Awakening, there's a cut fish that looks like Yoshi.
The M on his cap stands for Mario
Isn't Peach's Gran a Toad?
Why does the hen have breasts? She's a chicken. Chickens don't have breasts.
Chicken Breast is a thing.
I didn't type breasts, I typed breasts. Learn to read.
>t. city kid that has never seen an actual hen bred for meat
she has ass too, don't know why people don't mention this since I find it equally amusing
Cranky Kong can't actually be the original Donkey Kong because not even in gorilla years does it make sense for him to be an old man while Mario and Pauline don't look any older. Rare puts zero thought into the stories of their games and that trait unfortunately carried over here.
The mushrooms of the mushroom kingdom keep everyone looking youthful.
He's not a gorilla, he's a Kong, and also it's a fictional video game, it doesn't have to make sense.
Rare games are not canon. Only Nintendo made games are canon. Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong.
>Rare games are not canon.
Yoshi's Island still sucks.
The games were developed by Rare and published by Nintendo.
You can convert the image.
Published by means nothing. Nintendo publishes a lot of things.
And?
And Rare games are not canon.
Yes they are.
Don't be arbitrary.
If it wasnt canon, Nintendo would not have stopped using the old DK design, last seen in Donkey Kong gameboy, and started using the modern Rare DK design pretty much forever forward. Current DK design is not Nintendos, its still the biggest piece of Rare legacy still with the company.
Yeah but then an anon will just report the post for having a cartoon dick in it, jannies have been hungry lately
What do you expect from a SFW board?
>this moron again
Gonna reference Smash bros again?
Do you ever get embarrassed about being a fricking moron who believes in Kong Wars and Cranky Kong is the same age as Mario?
homie use your fricking eyes
Why is it grayscale?
Because nobody in their right mind would emulate virtual boy games with the original red filter.
Apolitical red scare.
No. NSMB starts a new series.
Every animal needs to defecate.
In Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe), there is a reference to Kung Fu Panda, whose main star will also voice Bowser in the upcoming movie.
There was an official Waluigi toenail clipping game that is now lost media.
god foot gays are the fricking worst
I didn't know Dan Schneider had worked on Nintendo.
>ghosts
to be more technical the original japanese manual calls them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obake
Often translated as ghosts in English but in JP seems to be slightly distinct.
What if thwomps are toads that couldn't be turned back from bricks or some shit
Mario couldn't save them so they grew bitter toward him
There is an official Weegee version of Peach.
Wonder if the movie will start like this, or if peach will already be kidnapped by the time the bros get there?
I want it to start in Brooklyn.
the NDC counterpart of Brooklyn*
I think that it would make sense for Peach to meet the bros (or at least Mario) before she gets kidnapped, it would certainly give Mario motivation to go and save her. Heck, this is something that the 1986 movie did.
Daisy riding the firebreathing Spynx boss should have been her final smash in smoosh bro.
So what should be Peach's Final Smash then?
One of her moves from Super Mario RPG, mood swing blitz attack from super princess peach, pull out a huge turnip from mario advance and toss it or just fricking have her get possesed by the Shadow Queen and go psycho on the stage.
Just Like Young Link should have called the Moon down on everyone and Toon Link should have flooded the entire stage while riding on KoR. Also Mario should have a wave a viruses infect everyone.
Dr. Mario*
what does a yoshi taste like
stretchy chicken
It's probably common knowledge by now, but Daisy has a 3rd eye on her trophy in Melee. What might not be common knowledge, is that in one cutscene of Sunshine, Peach's earing are replaced with her eye texture.
They're evil eyes.
>eyeball earrings
jesus christ how horrifying
wow, didn't know the eye thing in Sunshine. Probably gonna ruin this scene in the future for me.
>It is well known that Daisy's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee has an eye hidden at the back of her head. The eye texture is actually tiled across the entirety of her head, and the developers made the copies invisible, missing one in the back. Below, all eyes are made visible.
I want a Mario RPG with daisy as a playable hero who can unlock a psychic "Third Eye Opening" meditation attack, just as a moronic reference to this.
I always thought that the Mushroom Kingdom and Hyrule were 2 different continents of the same world until Super Mario Odyssey. There's no many references and cameos between the 2 games.
Different IPs.
I know, but there were hidden pictures of Mario and Friends in Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, Link ape eared in Mario RPG and Mario Kart. Plus a bunch of other small details made me think they live on the same world.
So Ganon is Morgoth?
Kewl.
Not even close. Morgoth eats Ganons for breakfast.
There is absolutely zero evidence Hyrule's world is flat. If anything, some of the traits it borrows from our world probably prove it's round.
Doesn't the Wind Waker prove that Hyrule exists on a world? Islands appear and disappear over the horizon. This wouldn't be possible on a flat realm
Until the 1.1.0 version, "someone would swear" when a race starts in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of Super Mario Sunshine due to an emulation issue.
Everything is connected.
