It would pay off for him in the end, having to struggle and see how hard work does pay off, to care about the little man, there's a line that malcolm says too something to the tune of
"If I had money, I could've bought my way into presidency" to which lois says "of course, but then you wouldn't be a good president", money and power corrupt, and you have to stay true to your ideals and values.
She did, in a misguided way, try to toughen him up, make him suffer just long enough to realize that the world is harsh, no one will try to elevate you, and seeking praise is worthless, but dragging yourself up by yourself and making your name will make everyone recognize you, even if they won't say it to your face, again she did it an awful way but ultimately did him a favor, reese ane dewey however...
Now with that said, in the days of every show getting a spin off, how come we never got to see adult malcolm trying to make it in the world, I would absolute believe he got some quirks from hal and lois, getting control crazy and occasionally doing something wacky like Hal... missed opportunity but it could be for the best too, woke shit could probably ruin it, force that LGHDTV shit even though he was friends with stevie and cynthia for "muh inclusivity"
She dumped the family's problems on him to fix without even giving him a say in the matter. And there's the fact that she constantly committed financial abuse against him. Confiscating his wages from his job, and stealing a credit card issued in his name to pay for a family vacation, which would probably wreak havoc on his finances for years to come. And let's not forget that the family's finances wouldn't be so fricked to begin with if Lois and Hal STOPPED HAVING SO MANY FRICKING KIDS. She wasn't trying to "toughen Malcolm up", she just wanted to ride on his coattails, milk him for what he's worth, and absolve herself of responsibility for her own bad choices.

The tl;dr is that Bryan Cranston is spearheading it but they all refuse to come back unless it's a good script and idea. Frankie Muniz is somewhat pushing it but he's also deferring to Bryan. Reese was always on board (and he's a CEO of some film company now), Francis has that mess going on with Hyde, Dewey is apparently quite private and doesn't really want to be seen in public (As evidenced by him not showing up to that one reunion) but is still in touch, Lois obviously did that alternate ending with Bryan in Breaking Bad so she's on board, and we don't know about anyone else.
Spangler may or may not have killed himself in the end since three years prior to his death he tried, Stevie is doing who knows what, Craig's in some random TV shows, and I don't know what anyone else is doing.
They also have to sort of get on this somewhat soon since in 2026 Bryan is going on temporary leave from acting to hang out with his wife for six months.

Watching the series again, the final episode is the one of the few times Lois fricks up.
Most episodes, Lois ends up being the better of the parents. You can also see why she’s constantly pissed off too with how her family treats you. Lois is one of those characters you appreciate more when you grow up and realize how their life actually is like.
