Thoughts on Castlevania Bloodlines?
Do you perfer to play as John Morris or Eric Lecarde?
Which stage was your favorite and why?
Do you think this game holds up better than Super Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood?

It was shitty on release and it's still shitty now.
When we said it was shitty it wasn't a reverse psychology trick for zoomers. It's right at the bottom of the Castlevania barrel.
Cool Spot had better platforming than this mess. Yes, the game with the 7up mascot was better.
Cringe. Kill youself.
I was closer to killing myself after I bought Bloodlines in 95 than after reading your comment.
filtered you hard huh and it still hurts
esl?
you might be if u dont understand that sentence lol
It's a super fun game, one of my favorites of the classicvania games. I personally enjoyed playing as Eric because he had that funny crouching jump where you could go really high up. I'd put this game somwhere above SCIV but below Rondo.
I feel like the people who play Eric are missing out on how fun it is to play as John. Swing Kicking enemies is seriously fun and satisfying. Sure you need a good ceiling to be able to swing, but you get probably one of the best mechanics from SCV4 ramped up to 11.
based
I would play this as my parents had mind-scarring fights through the walls to the point of it affecting me to this day and hearing the music gives me terrifying flashbacks.
John was best.
thanks for the memories
Good game but has the same problem as SCIV where there are a bunch of bosses and stages that are just tech demos and not good design
also the FM instruments sounds like shit but the compositions themselves are fantastic
Same composer as SotN, good shit.
I like this game a lot, but something about the level design is kind of annoying. It has less platforming than I would like.
Dracula X > IV > Bloodlines
Simple as
IV is more appealing to speedrunners, but Bloodlines is better for casuals
>Simple
good description of yourself. its IV > blood > X.
>a poor redo of rondo is better than a glitchy fricking snes hardware showcase is better than castlevania easy mode
What
Rondo > Super > Bloodlines >>>>>>>> Chinese bootleg of Rondo.
great game
i like eric because of his super jump thingy.
it's definitely better than super castlevania. maybe better than rondo too just because it's more creative. really i guess it's the good parts of both games
It’s great. Main John Morris. I play it regularly and enjoy it more each time. The first level is best honestly.
was this the proto Umihara Kawase?
In order to even do that, you'd have to get through the entire stage with the special weapon and collect enough ammo to spam it over and over like that.
bump
>What are /vr/'s thoughts on Castlevania Bloodlines?
Solid title, as usual with 90s Konami.
>Do you perfer to play as John Morris or Eric Lecarde?
Morris. I don't like having to stop to use Eric's diagonal attacks. You still have to stop to use Morris' diagonal whip but I guess the jumping gives it a bit more dynamism, plus also the classic whip castlevania weapon I guess I prefer over the spear.
>Which stage was your favorite and why?
Design-wise, I think germany? Aesthetics-wise, Versailles by far.
>Do you think this game holds up better than Super Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood?
Not precisely, wasn't a fan of a lot of the level design and mini-bosses in this game, but it's still above average many other action-platformers of the era so it's still high tier in that regard.
As a kid Eric but John now. I think Eric is easier because of pole vault iframes and other shenanigans. Honestly level 1 is best for me I think.
>As a kid Eric but John now
Same.
>Which stage was your favorite and why?
The last stage. The music and the gimmicks(screen staggering&upside down section) hyped me up so much.
>Do you think this game holds up better than Super Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood?
Haven't played RoB but I do enjoy it more than IV although I grew up with Bloodlines so nostalgia plays a big part. IV does have better atmosphere I'll give it that.
I'm playing through SOTN as my first Castlevania. I think I'm about halfway through but I can't be sure
Anyways any of the other games have rpg elements and great level design like SOTN??
>Anyways any of the other games have rpg elements and great level design like SOTN??
not really...
maybe dawn of sorrow on DS
Check Aria of Sorrow and the DS games. Also please give the classic titles a chance dude, they're pretty fun. Go Bloodlines or 4 if you feel the NES titles are too frustrating
Castlevania 64 is a good game, change my mind.
I find it to be infinitely superior to Super Castlevania IV but I fricking hate how little it really has to do with Castlevania when you're just going through random real life locations (and a factory that's not actually a factory but a poor man's Clock Tower I guess). Also it has the shittiest final area aesthetic wise, the entire area leading up to Drac's room looks like ass.
General Castlevania thread now. Thoughts on Portrait of Ruin?
not retro
One of my favorites, Hard Mode Lv 1 does a lot to change your strategy from just sticking to whatever weapon hits hardest with highest stat gear to picking something that fits the situation, like using the otherwise weak medusa whip for that Slogra moving and hitting like a fricking truck. Unless you're playing Richter mode, where you just kind of have to start appreciating the game's general mechanics, also Maria can run around with Grand Cross if you summon and then immediately tbhmmon Richter in the middle of it.
Amiga sux.
Like the prostitute you call mother
It's a solid CV game but I like Rondo and CV3 better. I think the graphics are kinda weird and some stages feel too gimmicky, but I like the concept and it moves really fast and never feels like a chore. Only ever played as Eric, just because I like to use the non-Belmont if I get a choice.
Maybe the factory level mostly because of the music, but I guess overall Atlantis and the Leaning Tower are both cool concepts.
Rondo of Blood is much better. Haven't played SCIV yet but I'd say I probably like Bloodlines better than CV1 at least.
Great game but too easy.
Way too hard, I couldn’t even beat the first level, so now i just save after every section. Cool art and music but just too intense, its almost as bad as Contra Hard Corps. I prefer castlevania 64.
I hope this is bait.
castlevania 64 is much harder than this so yes
Between Bloodlines, X68000, and Rondo, it's hard to pick a favourite.
Both SNES iterations are terrible though.
It's good, but Castlevania 4 is better.
Better at being shit
Good game with great soundtrack (as usual).
I always found the whip swing to be unreliable because of lack of low ceilings and short whip length, thus making eric more versatile.
