If you're too much of a b***h to handle it get out of the way for someone who is.
>if you are
>get out of the way for someone who is
hurr durr
As far as I could tell, most of the complaints were just people saying they didn't like it. They weren't asking him to change it or being that mean.
Disagreement is hate speech.
Apparently. I didn't screencap it, but there were so many people telling others to just shut up and not say anything at all if they didn't like it.
>devs and companies try to act buddy buddy with random people online
>surprised when some people criticize what they post
I'm very tired of this social media shit and yearn for the days when devs would just shut the frick up and make a game in secrecy instead of arguing with people on the internet like 13 year olds and posting about politics or whatever flavor of avocado toast they shoved up their ass this morning.
this is why self critique is important if you're going to refrain from sharing the development process before the product is finished
There's too many developers who love going to Twitter to cry about what people think of their shit games and then they cry even more when people are brutally honest.
But it didn't look very good. People asking for return to pixel-art style were ridiculous, since the mainline Monkey Island series always was at the cutting edge of visuals of games, though the remakes and new releases went in different direction.
It should've been good looking 3D or hand-drawn 2D like Curse. What they went with just looks weird, Gyubrush is barely identifiable.
Here's the "personal attack" that made Ron Gilbert stop posting.
This is a bit brutal for the soft and sensitive western game developer of 2022, but it's very clearly articulated and helpful feedback that if taken seriously could turn this turd into a diamond. Sadly the straight-out-of-college onions devs of today have never faced true criticism and therefore don't have the maturity to put their feelings aside and improve themselves or their product.
>Sadly the straight-out-of-college onions devs of today
Ron Gilbert is like 60 years old. He's one of those supposed "good" old school devs and not a "nu-dev". Except there's no such thing. They're all fricking homosexuals and always were.
That only makes him more pathetic. By the time a man is half the age of Ron Gilbert he ought to be well familiar with criticism. Guy should go see a psychologist and get his shit together.
>seeing these game journalists call out the gamers for being toxic and entitled
They never learn, do they?
They're still getting paid under the table by these companies, so no.
There were no personal attacks and the game looks horrible.
Good. Social media was a mistake and consumers talking to developers is proof that I'm right
Every time a dev is bullied into suicide is good
-social media was a mistake
-giving third worlders access to the internet was a mistake
-americans and chinks should get nuked
This is one of the few times I actually do support the angry gamers. The art style was genuinely fricking hideous. They needed to be told that. I cannot even fathom how someone could ever look at it and think "This looks good." It's not like they didn't have the means to produce something nice. There's some genuine insanity going on here and it needs to be called out.
Overblown. There are unhinged morons on every corner of the internet that will tell you that whatever you produce is shit and you should have a nice day over it. In this case, out of 100 people who said the game looks like shit, 2 were those unhinged morons. This of course was snapped up by Salon, Kotaku, and every other "news' site that has a grind about people having a non-approved opinion, and presented as evidence that any criticism towards the game can be marginalized. A mountain out of a molehill, and it all made of bullshit.
Nail on the head, anon.
Dont forget how it gave devgays like Druckmann and Barlow a chance to virtue signal and wag their finger at the people they believe to be their lessors.
I hate them so much its unreal.
True enough. The one that bothered me the most was Dominic Armato making up phrases like "Retro-Facists" when defending the game. I liked the guy, but I guess he eats the bugs like the rest of them.
The most hilarious thing is that this has been his dream art style for the game since 2009. If he had made it like this in maybe 2015 or so, it would have been fine. It's only because people are so burned out on the style that he has gotten so much negative feedback.
This art style can work in a game (see: Tearaway) but it just looks so awful here. It looks flat, lifeless, unorganized, and the characters all look pasted in the environment. Maybe it is a low budget thing (Tearaway was made with Sony money) but it just looks so ugly.
I showed the Monkey Island trailer to someone who wasn't a fan, and they said "It reminds me of James and the Giant Peach." When I told them about the artificial controversy that followed, he said "So it doesn't look like what I think Monkey Island should look like, but the trailer opened with a scrapbook, so I thought they were just going for a scrapbook look."
>NOOOO, YOU CAN'T JUST VOICE YOUR OPINION ABOUT SOMETHING ON AN OPEN FORUM!!!!
