pretty comfy as a second device you can use to game with your friends at their house.
not so comfy as your main gaming device, desktop stays king
this is the right answer
I have a 14 in laptop that's comfy for playing visual novels or JRPGs on the couch and powerful enough to hook up to the TV to play most AAA games released up to last year on medium/high settings, which is good enough for me
I've got a 16' Lenovo Legion 7 with an i9 and 4070, it's more than good enough as a main gaming device
I can play it on my lap with a lapdesk, or plugged into my 4k OLED
Mah homie. I got my Lenovo with 50% discount because it was a display piece. I bet that the specs mog 90% of Gankers rigs
Nice anon I think I got roughly the same off mine too
>pretty comfy as a second device you can use to game with your friends at their house.
You know you can just grab your battlestation and bring it to your friend's house, right?
laptops are much more convenient, easier to bring, easier to set up, less power required, less space required. the last two points are the main kicker. nothing is worse than some prick lugging down a 4090TI loaded mega tower power hog that takes up half a fricking table to play some FRICKING QUAKE 3!!!.
>t. host monthy lan parties, laptop lads literally just plug and play and can just walk down with a back pack.
too expensive
laptops are for productivity. They are dogshit for gaming. They will always be dogshit for gaming. A flat folding thing doesn't ventilate well enough for gaming. A proper, well ventilated tower or a Steam Deck is all you need. A Deck will also likely perform better than a gaming laptop that costs twice as much and also weigh 1/3rd of the weight.
Go to gym, Gabe
If you're going to have just one computer, sacrifice mobility (it's not really an issue even if they tell you otherwise) and get a desktop. Comfier, quieter, more powerful, serviceable, upgradeable, cheaper, ...... The list goes on and on. Only get a laptop if you're going to move more once a week.
I think gaming laptops are the best choice for adult wagies that only have time to do light gaming. For neets that can play all day the desktop is far superior
It's actually the opposite.
Your electricity bill would be far less on a laptop if you game 12h/day
why is your keyboard gay anon?
It is a nightmare if you want to replace the termal paste and give it a clean (which you have to do every 2-3 years)
>Remove 4-5 screws on the bottom of a laptop
>Remove cooler
>Remove and replace thermal paste
vs
>Remove 2 thumb screws on a desktop case
>Remove cooler
>Remove and replace thermal paste
>Remove 4-5 screws on the bottom of a laptop
>Use plastic triangles to remove the bottom case without damage
>Remove the battery for safety, there are more screws
>Remove cooler
>Remove and replace thermal paste
vs
>Remove 2 thumb screws on a desktop case
>Remove cooler
>Remove and replace thermal paste
fix you shit laptophomosexual
Isn't the case on modern Legion laptops, the case just comes off when you take the bottom screws out - don't need to put plastic in to remove clips
It is better to use them to remove it well
The most recent high-end gayming laptops now have liquid metal, although you don't have to replace it as often as the thermal paste, if you have to do so you can easily screw up the laptop if you're careless.
This is what has fricked my laptop up. There's like a huge metal heatsink that I can't find any screws for to remove and I basically had to put thermal paste on swab it onto the cpu with a toothpick
I got a gaming laptop because I'll move to another country, and bringing a desktop computer would be cancer
it's okay but I definitely miss the extra power from a desktop pc so I don't think I'll get a laptop again, also it gets pretty hot and I don't know if it's okay to reach 90 degrees celcius so I underclocked the cpu a little
I game on an HP gaming laptop. Had it since 2021 and it's still kicking fine. I moved so many times in the past few years that I really do need the portability.
comfy
Would probably have a laptop anyways so nice not having a separate desktop
>b-but bad performance
No, I can play games just fine, probably better than you
too loud
Spilled sugary drink all over the keyboard on my lenovo legion while on holiday last week
Get a desktop. It's way better in every way. There's few reasons where I would ever prefer the alternative. Laptops get super hot, are super loud, only have one screen, their keyboards are cheap, often missing keys, the screen is always too low, your neck hurts, the coolers make so much noise when gaming ...
It's like having a BMW or a Cadillac and deciding that it's too big and too comfortable and well designed, and driving pic related instead
I have an all amd laptop, runs most everything I’ve tried at 1080p 60fps medium settings. I also have a Steam Deck connected to my 75” TV and stream my games to it. works for me
Got a console or desktop or anything? Or just your laptop and Deck?
just laptop and deck
Based, I might sell my PS5 for a Deck
The Deck is horrible. Don't fall for the meme. A lot of games aren't even playable on it or run like absolute unplayable shit. If playing games at 600p/20fps while feeling your hands burning up is your thing then be my guest.
nta but that’s exactly I just stream from my laptop to it and project it to my tv
Do all my gaming on a laptop with lap desk in bed. Comfy games in comfy places.
Do you use a cooling pad? How's the balance? Considering getting the same.
Not him but cooling pads are a meme apparently. I use a lapdesk (Belkin Cushdeck) and it's great for making sure the bottom fans aren't covered, and it's comfy to lie with on the bed/sofa
I find my cooling pad helps a lot. But yes circulation is the biggest thing you need.
I've been gaming on WASD so much it destroyed membranes so keys don't register inputs half the time now. Basically have to replace entire upper shell because you can't fix keyboard separately. Disposable machines which seem like a good value at first but then will cost you more in the long run.
Not buying another laptop unless I'm sure I can actually keep in on my fricking LAP. Gaming laptops definitely can't, and just feel like a stopgap for people too stupid to make a desktop.
>Erm just keep the desk on your lap
Get this bulky shit out of my sight.
Gayming laptops are bad, the good ones are the business ones, but cost a lot more.
I have 2 and they micro stutter for no fricking reason. I have already reduced processes running in the background and cleaned them from the inside. The temps are fine, there isn't any kind of bottleneck and they have dual Chanel RAM. I spent more time twerking it than actually playing.
I don't know if it's because Lenovo laptops suck, or it's because of W11 shit
Does no one else remove the stickers?
Cool
Shit is too loud though
Don't they tend to burn themselves out after having them for like 18 months that's when you need a cooling pad because the shit has zero airflow
Get the warranty
They suck, they're designed to fail and they're non reusable.
I have a 4090 and the best i9 for a laptop
I get hard every time I turn it on
I will probably use until the 6090 drops
>his gaming laptop gets hot and loud because it has an i9 CPU and it has an RTX 4090 GPU
You're dumb.
my laptop is better than a lot of high end desktops. currently my CPU temp is 93c
>gaming laptop
I'm a streamer and I want the freedom to travel at some point, are there any laptops that can handle playing games, recording and streaming all at the same time well?
any of the high end ones with 4080/4090 and i7/9 will handle anything. modern top tier laptops are marginally worse than desktops tbh
good to know, thank you! I haven't really kept up with laptops in forever, I remember them being pretty awful a while back. lugging my streaming equipment everywhere will probably be the biggest issue.
the strix 16 is about 5lbs and you can get one with a 4080/90 and an i9.
It's pretty cheap compared to other models and the mini-led looks amazing.
>modern top tier laptops are marginally worse than desktops tbh
dont spread lies the performance is much worse
you cant fit a giant heatsink inside to disipate the heat and keep the cpu and gpu working at full power
I'm an onlyfans model and I want the freedom to show my breasts off everywhere I go.
I used to just use my phone but the quality is trash but using a powerful laptop lets me spread my legs anywhere when I'm short on cash.
But the camera on your phone is better than the one on a laptop.
I used to have a gaming laptop, never like them other than playing any game that was controller based cause keyboard and mouse was pretty comfortable. most of time I had it hooked onto a external peripherals including a monitor just to play KB/M on the desk comfortable. they are good if you want a living room device or something to bring if youre always out. which never was much a case for me, so I got a desktop again.
It's the worst of both worlds. Not as powerful as a desktop, not as comfortable or portable as a handheld PC.
I'm a seasonal worker, I'm often out of my country, or a neet, even lived on ships for a couple of years, I never had a choice.
bretty good.
I fall asleep asking god to torture the killers of his son every night.
forever
>have laptop folded up on my desk with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse plugged into it when i'm gaming or working
>unplug it and bring it into the living room if i want to relax
>put it on my entertainment stand and plug it into my t.v. if i want to game on big screen and controller
>bring it with me on trips
>extended 8 year warranty including the manufactures
The hate really is just coming from children who are coping they spent so much money on a big brick that sits in there little room they never leave. Can't grasp the concept that people have more than one place they spend their time.
its a meme. don't fricking get a gaming laptop. they overheat, and are heavy and annoying to use. Desktop + deck is the way to go.
>t. owned a predator helios 300 for 6 years
I grew up with laptops and I literally can't move to desktops because they're just so good for when I'm moving houses (I'm in foster care since about 2017) and I don't want to set my shit up all over again.
You can tell if someone has actually had a gaming laptop or is just lying
I've had mine for over 4 years and it emulates games really well
I think they're pretty great. I also think it's funny airflow still hasn't really been remedied and the best thing anyone with a laptop that runs hot can do is lift their laptop up by like an inch with a book or anything really. It's amazing what lifting it an inch does for it's lifespan.
it's a computer, it runs games, you can use it to play vidya. full scale PC with full voltage components and huge box with fans for efficient cooling will obviously be superior in the same price bracket, but laptop will play vidya just fine. Situation used to be trash in dx9 times, but nowadays mobile nvidia GPUs are not to far away from full power versions, and then latest and greatest demanding games are barely worth a playthrough, so i'd just pick whatever fits my needs more
I got one from MSI almost three years ago so I could game some when visiting my parents. It has a 3070 and a shitty i7 that goes to 95° no matter what you throw at it.
It's decent enough since it runs MHW and MH:Rise but I would never buy an MSI again. I had a macbook and a lenovo before and both mogged the shit out of the MSI quality wise. If I'd buy another gaming laptop I would probably go with Lenovo this time.
Yeah stick with Lenovo. I went from a Legion 5 Pro which was mainly plastic to my current Legion 7 Slim which is all metal, and the build quality is fantastic.
Strangely, the Legion 7 Pro is mostly metal but with plastic decorative parts around the rear fans.
Currently playing Starfield at matching Xbox Series X settings with DLSS on my 4070 model at 100+ FPS in New Atlantis.
They really are great. I still have a yoga 14 with a dedicated gpu from 2015, a 940M I think. That thing is still running reliably.
The Legion is good for bringing into work too. Basically looks like a thinkpad so nobody says anything.
Get a thin and light for indies, e sports, emulation. Dont get a gaming laptop, if you need muh graphix get a desktop.
Also frick the Steam Deck its a useless piece of shit for man children
What settings does everyone mostly play at? I have a HP that's a few years old and I run mostly everything at high, though occasionally have to turn somethings down to medium, at 1080p and usually can get 60fps without it getting hot.
People just don't have it properly ventilated. Laptops are designed to be run hot anyway. If you want to see something scary go look up operating temps of GPUs in general.
A lot of people still have old boomer ideas living in their heads about heat, lifespan, etc. when most of those are not an issue with new laptops
They also have this idea that a laptop doesn't have any ports on it so you can't hook up another monitor or use a mouse.
ok so where is this wonder-laptop that doesnt overheat?
>90C cpu
No thanks.
