I really dislike it, I don't understand why they felt the need to change. I think it'd be one thing if they went for a different but still unique art style, but this looks so generic you could tell me it's from some no-name Korean dev and I'd believe it, except at least Korean devs universally go for the cute appeal.
I don't like it
the models are shockingly bad (or not? it's fricking pokémon, downgrades are the norm), but strangely the official art is OK at worst. only the protagonists have it truly bad in both fronts

Pokemon games on Switch have no consistent style. Literally every game looks different and are so disconnected...
I'll get used to it, its the monkey paw for them actually updating the pokemon models to not just be 3ds upscales.

pokemon have actual textures now. So they do mesh better this way. It would be weird if trainers looked 2d with plain colors and pokemons had realistic texture. /vp/ would have complained either way

But what really annoys me its the textures not the models. They feel like dolls.
And I like dolls, but for a game I prefer something more cartoony.
I absolutely hate them.
They remind me of those creepy 3D deviantart vore and foot fetish images.
The skin textures and individual strands of hair are what really bother me.
Which sucks, because I think the designs themselves are pretty good. The 3D models just ruin any appeal.

It's not great. I get that with character customization the base design is losing importance, but the MCs from Sword/Shield and especially these new MCs... the base design is just so terribly boring.
The uniforms just look plain bad. It's like they are doubling down on the sports outfit idea from SwSh but an even worse take.
