Eh I always lump them with symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, Delain and Within Temptation. Evanescence was always the gateway band into that genre for most people even if their music was not quite the same

Fricking this. I'm into bands like Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Katatonia now but that all started for me with Evanescence. I'm pretty nostalgic about it all now, though again it's nice to get a remaster that makes the rock instrumentation sound less wimpy so listening for the nostalgia isn't so tainted with weak mixing choices anymore. Now I can pretend to be 15 again without caveats, how fun.
