Troll Warlord alone can hard-dispel himself using his ultimate (because of a level 25 talent) and shove someone out of ghostly invincibility (that was supposed to be his counter) using Scepter-upgraded axes. Crystal Maiden's shard upgrade allows her to move at a far slower speed while using her ultimate, meaning she can Blink right into the enemy team.
Yeah but it's like the opposite of Riot's approach. They power creep champion kits and keep the rest of the game sort of low power. Dota says FRICK IT, slams on the gas, and fires everything to 11. It's actually comical how much added power has been added to dota 2 heroes since it came out.

I always thought of it as as like, take a snapshot of a game at release.
As the game progresses, be it items, mechanics, animation (like speeding them up or something), damage, amount of utility etc just continues to go up and up and up, and they have to constantly scramble to keep up with the increasing power/stats/speed etc. Power literally just slowly creeps upwards.
I don't think it necessarily needs to have to be a "better version" of something, even though that often happens, but I could be wrong
Best measure for me was always compare the early champs in a class to the latest ones. Sivir comes to mind as she does frick all except a slight movement boost and guzzle mana while other ADs have a shit ton of passives on top of passives to mow everything down.

No, otherwise power creep wouldnt be a thing as that is super easy to avoid. Powercreep is the slowly increasing power of new releases to make things fresh and interesting. After many generations of power creep you might find that a new addition has a much more overloaded kit compared to early champions (league) or that a strategy can achieve something faster than a previous strategy (card games).
Immune to being killed by anything but Axe's ultimate, lifesteal out the ass and extra attack speed makes it a really good ultimate, on top of being able to root the target indefinitely with enough attack speed on melee stance. Second earliest Roshan killer before Ursa the moment he buys Morbid Mask and has enough points in Fervor.

Riot claimed that Bel'Veth actually wasn't this year's monster champ. They claimed (backed up by her original concept arts) that she was intended to be far more humanoid than she ended up being, and there's another monster champ on the docket.
Original Bel'Veth concepts made her more human, it's why her art focuses on her human aspects, she's not the monster champ that was promised, she was made more monster in development

He is the pinnacle of ASSgay hero design where his mechanics and flavor not only blend seemlessly but are near perfectly balanced such that he's received barely a handful of small changes and is still perfectly viable if not great for the current meta. He is interestingly alien with just enough mystery to leave you wanting to see more but not so much that you can't understand his basic motivations.
And his VA knocked that shit out of the park.

Very strong thematic identity that blends in with his kit. From that first cinematic reveal he made a strong impact and turned out to be fun to play.
lillia is a jungler with a lotta positioning requirements to her abilities, is pretty fun to play. she can go sonic speed late game when her q passive gives stacking move speed, though her personality as a meek deer who gets startled easily means her voice lines can be a bit shrill in your ear.

A fat Yuumi. You have the same impact on the bot lane. You provide nothing in the lane itself so you just wander off and, if good, win the other lanes which in turn usually wins the game. But you completely spoil the game for the ADC who queued into you because they now get to play sit under the tower 1v2 for 20 minutes, eating the occasional jungle dive gank and doing 500 total hero damage in the game.
God I miss when character design was cool and unique. What happened to such interesting ideas like dude with sword, big dude with sword, dude with big sword, girl with sword, girl with bow, mage, and big dude with axe?

It's such a waste. She basically needed to have half a character rework the day she released and they never touched her because despite her being pointlessly punishing like no other champ in the game and sometimes unfun to play in several ways, they just left her where she is because her winrate is positive, mainly because she has that one big gamer move in teamfights.
It's a shame. When you get her to work, she's fun as hell. But it's such an unbalanced experience.
I haven't played since season 3 ended, are they still releasing broken champs with 10 trillion mobility tools and an overloaded kit on top ? That was basically my biggest gripe with champ design, versatility creep. Later champs could do everything, and often do it better than old ones
The Ruined King finally being a champion was a cool subversion. Felt like it had a lot less impact than it would have cause he gets blended in with the dozen other pretty champs released next to him.
There have been essays written on how the Ruined King got shafted and the entire Ruination ruined because of Riots utterly incompetent writers wanting to keep everything super safe.

Bel'veth - not terrible, not great. I'll take a void champ any day. Didn't play her yet, but design is okay.
Renata - absolute best of the lot. Fits in the world they built, cool personality and overall a good champion.
Zeri - trash. With her dreamworks eyebrow thing going on, absolutely low effort design and no place to be in Zaun.
Vex - all yordles are quirky in some way so I came to expect that. She's fun, though too one note maybe.
Akshan - could have been cool. An aladin/prince of Persia look is a fun trope, but he suffers the samw fate as most of the other new champs. Too simple of a design and an overloaded kit. His passive alone has more text than some champs entire kits.
Gwen - very meh as well. Looks like a mobile game character mixed with low budget anime character. Like all things that came out of Ruination sans Vex, a disappointment.
Viego - master yi with a few tricks that are new. Not the worst champion but underwhelming for someone so much talked about in the game.
Rell - who? Zeri tier low effort trash.
Seraphine - this has to be a Sona skin that somehow got made into a champ. Universally hated and for a good reason.

What bothers me the most is that a lot of these champs traits are overlapping, Akshan, Zeri and Samira are basically 3 champs with the exact same personality, that sort of young, wienery arrogance and I'm tired of it
I want a bit more weirdness, a bit of sociopathy, humor, eccentricity, fricking anything that's not the same fricking dreamworks smirking piece of shit champions
It's also made the champ releases significantly less interesting, that champs no longer have like intro pages or any of that shit that would give an additional glimpse into their themes and motivations

She's like a big bad or something, but none of that is really communicated through her kit or her appearance
She can raise armies of voidlings and shit, and "reveal her true form", but in game she's just a manta ray that flaps really fast

The new champ, Nilah is the sign of this gradual decilne kicking into full gear. The same, wienery personality is now also paired up with inexplicable mary sue shenanigans, and a completely uninteresting, uninventive kit that only exist to cater to ADHD "playmaker" morons
I don't know either of them since I haven't played in forever, but I saw a trailer of some new pajeet bootleg waterbender with 30000 dashes. Safe to say that these champs are probably just as cancerous as she appeared to be.
Appearance wise, it's shit like something from a cheap Chinese mobile game. Gameplay wise, I dunno. I stopped playing LoL around Fiddle's rework lol. If they're hyper mobility burst damage cancer then I'm glad I left.

That's Dota 2. Talents, shard and aghanim for everyone really fricked up the game. Troll Warlord alone can hard-dispel himself using his ultimate (because of a level 25 talent) and shove someone out of ghostly invincibility (that was supposed to be his counter) using Scepter-upgraded axes. Crystal Maiden's shard upgrade allows her to move at a far slower speed while using her ultimate, meaning she can Blink right into the enemy team.
Yeah but it's like the opposite of Riot's approach. They power creep champion kits and keep the rest of the game sort of low power. Dota says FRICK IT, slams on the gas, and fires everything to 11. It's actually comical how much added power has been added to dota 2 heroes since it came out.

I always thought of it as as like, take a snapshot of a game at release.
As the game progresses, be it items, mechanics, animation (like speeding them up or something), damage, amount of utility etc just continues to go up and up and up, and they have to constantly scramble to keep up with the increasing power/stats/speed etc. Power literally just slowly creeps upwards.
I don't think it necessarily needs to have to be a "better version" of something, even though that often happens, but I could be wrong
Power Creep is when the game slowly outpaces previous design with stronger design.
Best measure for me was always compare the early champs in a class to the latest ones. Sivir comes to mind as she does frick all except a slight movement boost and guzzle mana while other ADs have a shit ton of passives on top of passives to mow everything down.

No, otherwise power creep wouldnt be a thing as that is super easy to avoid. Powercreep is the slowly increasing power of new releases to make things fresh and interesting. After many generations of power creep you might find that a new addition has a much more overloaded kit compared to early champions (league) or that a strategy can achieve something faster than a previous strategy (card games).

I don't keep up with this shit game anymore but league players are tired of the anime shit and want good old fashioned monsters like Cho'Gath and Trundle and stuff, so Riot probably promised one every x number of releases. They've done it before with other archetypes.
When Gwen came out the NA/EU playerbase was tired of nothing but bug-eyed Lux variations and it spread across social media fairly heavily. Riot tried to quiet it down, but that just made it worse. A week later they posted an absurdly long overly-wordy blog about how they are going to "classify" Champ visual design going forward. The basics of it was that 2 out of 5 Champs will be Monsters. However they specified also, that "Monsters" by their definition is just "Non-human". So Bel'Veth and Vex are the "Monster" champs we're getting this year, by Riot's self-made arbitrary definition.
Riot claimed that Bel'Veth actually wasn't this year's monster champ. They claimed (backed up by her original concept arts) that she was intended to be far more humanoid than she ended up being, and there's another monster champ on the docket.
Original Bel'Veth concepts made her more human, it's why her art focuses on her human aspects, she's not the monster champ that was promised, she was made more monster in development

What made him so special?
His voice, mostly. That and he actually plays different than most ADCshit they drop, and isn't an obnoxious piece of shit like Zeri or Vayne.
Everything about him design-wise was perfect in comparison to a lot of champions at the time.
He is the pinnacle of ASSgay hero design where his mechanics and flavor not only blend seemlessly but are near perfectly balanced such that he's received barely a handful of small changes and is still perfectly viable if not great for the current meta. He is interestingly alien with just enough mystery to leave you wanting to see more but not so much that you can't understand his basic motivations.
And his VA knocked that shit out of the park.

lillia is a jungler with a lotta positioning requirements to her abilities, is pretty fun to play. she can go sonic speed late game when her q passive gives stacking move speed, though her personality as a meek deer who gets startled easily means her voice lines can be a bit shrill in your ear.

There are quite a lot of infinitely scaling champions nowadays beyond those two unless you mean purely the damage.
I haven't played any of them but I like Vex, Samira, Akshan and Gwen based on when I've fought them. Yone meanwhile I hate with a passion.

A fat Yuumi. You have the same impact on the bot lane. You provide nothing in the lane itself so you just wander off and, if good, win the other lanes which in turn usually wins the game. But you completely spoil the game for the ADC who queued into you because they now get to play sit under the tower 1v2 for 20 minutes, eating the occasional jungle dive gank and doing 500 total hero damage in the game.

It's such a waste. She basically needed to have half a character rework the day she released and they never touched her because despite her being pointlessly punishing like no other champ in the game and sometimes unfun to play in several ways, they just left her where she is because her winrate is positive, mainly because she has that one big gamer move in teamfights.
It's a shame. When you get her to work, she's fun as hell. But it's such an unbalanced experience.

I haven't played since season 3 ended, are they still releasing broken champs with 10 trillion mobility tools and an overloaded kit on top ? That was basically my biggest gripe with champ design, versatility creep. Later champs could do everything, and often do it better than old ones

The Ruined King finally being a champion was a cool subversion. Felt like it had a lot less impact than it would have cause he gets blended in with the dozen other pretty champs released next to him.
There have been essays written on how the Ruined King got shafted and the entire Ruination ruined because of Riots utterly incompetent writers wanting to keep everything super safe.
They also used Covid as an excute as to why there's literally 4 different versions of the event, all because

Bel'veth - not terrible, not great. I'll take a void champ any day. Didn't play her yet, but design is okay.
Renata - absolute best of the lot. Fits in the world they built, cool personality and overall a good champion.
Zeri - trash. With her dreamworks eyebrow thing going on, absolutely low effort design and no place to be in Zaun.
Vex - all yordles are quirky in some way so I came to expect that. She's fun, though too one note maybe.
Akshan - could have been cool. An aladin/prince of Persia look is a fun trope, but he suffers the samw fate as most of the other new champs. Too simple of a design and an overloaded kit. His passive alone has more text than some champs entire kits.
Gwen - very meh as well. Looks like a mobile game character mixed with low budget anime character. Like all things that came out of Ruination sans Vex, a disappointment.
Viego - master yi with a few tricks that are new. Not the worst champion but underwhelming for someone so much talked about in the game.
Rell - who? Zeri tier low effort trash.
Seraphine - this has to be a Sona skin that somehow got made into a champ. Universally hated and for a good reason.
Samira - also one of the better releases of the newer champs. Too overloaded in gameplay but she's okay.
Yone - yasuo but not. I don't have much of a problem with him though.
Lillia - only goos thing about this abomination is the accent that makes me diamonds. One more champ that really doesn't fit the setting.
All in all, riot has been subpar with champs in the last two years

What bothers me the most is that a lot of these champs traits are overlapping, Akshan, Zeri and Samira are basically 3 champs with the exact same personality, that sort of young, wienery arrogance and I'm tired of it
I want a bit more weirdness, a bit of sociopathy, humor, eccentricity, fricking anything that's not the same fricking dreamworks smirking piece of shit champions
It's also made the champ releases significantly less interesting, that champs no longer have like intro pages or any of that shit that would give an additional glimpse into their themes and motivations
I still don't know shit about Bel'veth, and to be honest, I don't really care
She's like a big bad or something, but none of that is really communicated through her kit or her appearance
She can raise armies of voidlings and shit, and "reveal her true form", but in game she's just a manta ray that flaps really fast
the translation of her lore into gameplay has been terrible, because they tossed aside the unique and central themes to her character in favor of zoomershit gameplay
The new champ, Nilah is the sign of this gradual decilne kicking into full gear. The same, wienery personality is now also paired up with inexplicable mary sue shenanigans, and a completely uninteresting, uninventive kit that only exist to cater to ADHD "playmaker" morons
I don't know either of them since I haven't played in forever, but I saw a trailer of some new pajeet bootleg waterbender with 30000 dashes. Safe to say that these champs are probably just as cancerous as she appeared to be.
Appearance wise, it's shit like something from a cheap Chinese mobile game. Gameplay wise, I dunno. I stopped playing LoL around Fiddle's rework lol. If they're hyper mobility burst damage cancer then I'm glad I left.
