They had an armed heli in the SDK but similair to shotguns, they probably found it too difficult to balance and gave up

Rising Storm 2 is balanced just fine and pilots flee in terror of a skilled RPG user because it has realistic muzzle velocities and it doesn't take much effort to RPG a chopper when the rocket flies faster than lol DICE speed
and squad is lacking destruction, nothings perfect.
it'll be dead before you know it. A mod for an 11 year old game that relies on high player count lobbies is not going to have a long life, no matter how good it actually is.
Squad is already out and has an established player base, this mod is a proof of concept at best.

its alright. its not much like insurgency, its got huge open maps where as insurgency is more narrow, and has vehicles. gunplay is slower and has more recoil/kick, less dependent on twitch shooting ability than insurgency. its for the most part not a milsim autism game like people pretend, no one will yell orders at you or force you to respect rank or stick together.

Hell Let Loose might be up to your liking. It's not as autism-heavy as Squad but still hardcore enough to distant itself from games like Battlefield. It's still a good idea to get a microphone because these type of games thrive on cooperation.

All the good PR devs are now making money making Squad. It's that simple.

I'm friends with several of the dev team IRL. They're doing fine. Not sure what makes you think they're barely staying afloat. Squad's continued to grow.

Good on the team for making the mod, but there seems to be a lot of core problems.
It's releasing on BF3, which is super dead. You need to own the game and all DLCs which are all still very expensive. They are working on Frostshite, which will certainly limit their abilities to tweak the game, completely unlike the original PR devs that hacked Refractor 2 inside and out. To add onto that, it will take decades to reach maturity and content parity with other contenders like PR, Squad, INS, ARMA, etc.
I'm not a huge fan of Squad. It's got some cool content but some of the gameplay changes and the barely functioning morons that play it make it unbearable. PR has treated me well over the years, and hopefully has a few more to squeeze some content out.
