It, at the very least, has made me actually smile and chuckle a couple of times which is already more than I can say for a lot of other games right now. That and I'm ultimately have fun with the actual game part of it.
much like SMRPG before it, they had no random encounters and the battles had more engagement beyond just selecting an attack. obviously it was a winning formula. kinda surprised more turn-based jrpgs didn't learn anything from it.
>like SMRPG before it
I really wish they'd put this on NSO instead of remaking the game. I can always just get the ROM but still.
Different anon but I haven't even played any of the nuPM shit other than the first ~20% of sticker star
PM64 is okay but TTYD is superior in almost every aspect, I don't get what people like so much about 64

It's funny as shit with a unique artstyle and graphics gimmick that bled into gameplay, and Mario as a franchise was already old enough that it played on nostalgia.
The path to shooting star summit gets me every damn time. The song, the stars falling, the fade in for the music and day/night transition and all that. This ran on a Nintendo 64
If you ask Ganker, it's SOVL
If you ask someone with half a brain, it's because it has witty writing, charming characters, a fun world to explore, and a take on turn-based RPG combat that's simple, but engaging to pull off. TTYD is better. Yes I know the backtracking sucks, that's the one blemish. And don't act like Flower Fields isn't almost as bad.
It has a better hub world than 1KYD. That's it, that's why 64 paper mario is better than gamecubes paper mario. You spend a lot of time backtracking, and you won't notice it until you play the sequel.
I beat it last year and understood none of its popularity. It's just okay no matter how you look at it.

Let me guess, you think that TOK is "the best" of the nuPM trash as well. Get a clue already.

It's an animated popup storybook instead of a long meta joke about paper.
You mean you DON'T want a paper joke in over 75% of the conversations you have?

it's pure soul
shouldve been a snes game
there's literally nothing in paper mario that needed or used n64's capabilities
except for all the 3D and visual effects
lmao
donkey kong country had all that on the snes
Try harder next time
It's been years since I played it, I think it's time. So do all the emulators run it well these days?
I was playing on NSO, but I'm sure it runs fine on the main emulators.
Anon, emulators ran it just fine like 20 years ago. Yes, it runs well.
>Project64 ran just fine like 20 years ago
Lies
There's a real sense of adventure in this game and nice world building. Paper Mario 2 fumbled on this.

The I liked the Flower Fields chapter because it had a few cool songs that appear only once in the whole game.
spikes intro theme and the sun theme??
Sad sun was a banger but you forgot the Mortal Kombat style mole song.
Expect the same enemy types over and over again. "Oh, a gomba"
Wit, charm, and style.
it's out
Saw that in F3 today. There were actually a number of decent looking things this year IMO.
