It's actually about clinging to the past = BAD!
The spinoff offers new things and subverts some tired tropes which is why you see homosexuals whine about the games.
>having an actual competent assistant >having a clear overarching story with a clear character development for all characters >having a proper demonstration of how having peasants and npcs for the jury makes everything more a mess >subverts the mentor trope in all aspects >MC is a believable greenhorn and self-insertgays cannot self insert as him, not without injecting the harem delusion >Killing off a recurring character with some major truths >Handling the theme of death, guilt, unfortunate events, regrets, snowballing events, karma, grey morality very well >no cringe humor >Sherlock
But yeah it subverted nothing in your head because you are another moronic homosexual
GAA greatest strengths come from how it reuses familiar AA ideas >Rookie becoming Ace Attorney >Death of a Mentor >Prosecutor returning from the dead >Prosecutor is framed for murder, revealing a dark family mystery >Legendary Genius crime solver adopts girl >Corrupt Justice system covers up conspiracy
>competent assistant
Athena >complete story
AA3, AAI2. Also not a subversion >Jury system
Layton crossover >subverts mentor trope
Because he survives? Kind of superficial but ok. >MC is x
Phoenix did this, and did it better. Ryu can't remember things from literally 5 minutes prior. He isn't just a rookie, he's practically brain damaged at times. >Killing major character
Killing gregson was somewhat subversive, as was him being part of the conspiracy but they have done similar things with Godot and the Phantom. >themes

Eh, Takumi wanted something new and not gay. I can't blame him.
Continuity. The series tried to be both episodic and have an overarching narrative. You can't have both though and the story has to end sometime. Wright and Apollo are done, and Athena can't carry a game by herself.
Even then it can't go on forever, not even GAA despite how much Ganker loves it. It has to end eventually, that's the inherent limit of anything with an actual overarching narrative.
Personally, I think the mistake was making the protagonist of GAA Nick's ancestor. 'Cause now there's this bloodline shit going on and it sort of raises some degree of expectation. It's just too bad that Nick's only (adopted) kid has no interest in becoming an attorney herself. Ryunosuke probably should have been an unrelated individual who just happens to have some similarities with Nick.
Unironically, and sadly, your pic. Even if we like the series it was a dead loser in Japan, so as far as Capcom was concerned, two of the last three new AA games they made were failures so it's been backburner'd.
500,000 sales across all platforms for TGAAC worldwide. That still puts it behind the Ace Attorney Trilogy bundle (750,000 last time it was mentioned), but it's a damned sight better than the original 3DS releases, where last I'd heard neither reached 100,000 sold.
I made a graph some time ago. It looks like shit I know. Anyway:
Every quarter Capcom updates the sales numbers of their Platinum Titles, which are the games that sold more than 1 million units. If you use the Wayback Machine, you can see how the Phoenix Wright Trilogy sold over time.
PW Trilogy (PWT) released in early 2019. In the quarterly earnings ending December 2020, PWT broke 1 millions (publicy announced by Capcom). Since then we know every quarter how much PWT cumulative lifetime sales are. As you can see each quarter PWT sells 100K-200K units, which is insane for such an old game and a rerelease at that. PWT sells well because of good word of mouth and constant price cuts. Most recent numbers are from the quarter ending March 2022. PWT is as of March 2022 at 1.6 million. The finanlcial results for the quarter ending June 2022 will soon be published, usually by the end of July.
At the same time Capcom reports on the total sales of their most successful series. Again, with the Wayback Machine we know that the entire AA series sold 9.2 million units as of March 2022 (https://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/business/salesdata.html). Back in June 2021 they reported 8.2 million sales total for the series. So a 1 million increase in 9 months. We also know from their Platinum Titles reports that, PWT sold 400K in the last year since June 2021. That means there are 600K units in the AA series unaccounted for, which had to happen between June 2021 and March 2022. In those 9 months, Great Ace Attorney came out of course. So I attribute most of those 600K to GAA. We now know that back in April GAA indeed broke 500K sold officially as shared by Capcom on Twitter with the celebratory art. So the remaning 100K must be from other game sales that are not PWT or GAA.
Now you know how I got my graphs. Comparing them shows PWT selling very steadily, and GAA already starting to plateau
GAA has been out for less time as well. It is marketed as a spin off so it does not get added sales from the Phoenix Wright name. Half a million for that is still good.
>Has some of the worst cases in the franchise (AI-3/5) >Majority of cases drag on to ridiculous length >Story changes absolutely nothing about Edgeworth until AAI2 retroactively fixed this >Kay is fricking annoying >Majority of the game is a fricking flashback to the point by I-4 you are flashbacking in a flashback in a flashback

Because that game is such a step up from the literal dumpster fire that is AJ even if it is mediocre game itself. And I blame fujo for its mediocre cases with unfunny humor and moronic plot progression. As soon as they see the cheap emotional manipulation of muh tragic/sad things in muh game they think it's a masterpiece.
>I blame Fujos
Fujos were on the development team for the series, Fujos created the art for the series, Fujos were literally the target audience since day 1, i fail to see how people don't understand they are literally playing a fujobait franchise, and there is nothing wrong with playing one.

Contrarians don't have soul. They don't even have a functioning brain.
>one case >VR exclusive >that disparity between the 3D modeled main characters and the 2D witnesses
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing this with a bit more effort put into it, and not as a VR exclusive.
They kept writing themselves into a corner every game. In fact, aside from the logic of the games, the stories were pretty average to shit really. AAInvestigations was the closest it got to good writing and that ended itself with just 2 games.
bad writing, fujos, the inability to develop characters, and incompetence
GAAC was ok but it needed an editor badly, drawn out as frick and had the literal dumbest main character to date
imagine playing as Maya in the original trilogy, just an absolute joke
I feel for the devs because fujos are their primary demographic now, but they did that to themselves and are now hamstrung into writing sexless fujobait not quite homosexuals every game
I felt like his speech in AAI2-5 about detectives doing things for themselves and not just prosecutors was setting up a Gumshoe Investigations, but they just stopped the subseries hard after that. Until they address what happened with Gumshoe officially I'm going to continue assuming he was made police chief for his unflinching support of the Blue Badger, and when Ema gets b***hy because her chief called her a dumbass in 4-3 that's because the insult was coming from GUMSHOE.
Gumshoe is a nice guy but he's nearly moronic. Why would you ever want to play as him in an investigations game? How would he cross examine anyone? It'd either totally retcon his character or be incredibly frustrating.
Nothing. I'll keep buying the games as long as they release them. A good turnabout buttblasting some jackass into the next galaxy is always entertaining. They just HAVE to fricking produce them is all.
The insistence with keeping Phoenix around. Apollo Justice might have been a good game if they hadn't shoehorned Phoenix in and made everything about him.
Pussying out and giving Apollo’s trilogy to Phoenix and adding in a third main character for some stupid reason. Honestly even including Phoenix in AA5 was a mistake. Should have had a new character play that role and bring Phoenix back for the final game. It’s not like Phoenix was even bad in that game though, especially once you get to play as him at the end and you realize from his inner monologue that he’s still the same old Phoenix putting up a front. The fans were just being b***hes over nothing.
The steep decline in writing of everything. Serenade. The apologists are all fujos and contrarians that disregard common sense to justify its terrible quality.
Serenade was filled with so many plot holes it's almost like the writers noticed the trend of the showbiz cases being disliked and decided to intentionally write the worst one possible.
its mostly just a very rushed game that isn't even good as a standalone due to the poor individual case quality.
thats not getting into how the game does its best to ignore the previous games, while also trying to cater to older fans with a cynical jaded version of the previous series main character, i'm sure this sounds familiar to you in one way or the other.
The serenade is the one valid complaint and every modern version fixes it so it doesn’t even matter now.
I doubt the modern version fixes the shotty writing of the case even if it removes all the flashbacks you have during it.
>Phoenix and Maya's wedding
They could make the best game in the series if they actually went ahead with this. But they just don't have the balls. Cowards
The new writers obsessed with making the new BIG CASE and Nick and team solving a BIG CRISIS!!!
The team fricking overthrowing a monarch is too much for me. Cases like 3-5 work because they're not really that big for the larger world. They're big for the characters. The new writers don't seem to get that.
Wanna go at the first Ace Attorney trlogy, is the supreme way of playing it on the DS or PC/3DS?
I'm more into the sprites but i heard there are many translation "fixes": are those actual typos and errors or just pozzed trash?
Both versions are fine, though I personally prefer the original sprites
There's only one "bad" part in the HD translation, which has references to the Harlem Shake and that Fergie Milkshake song. But that's just in one case, everything else was fine from what I remember.
Both those references where in the 2007 release of Trials and Tribulations on the DS. The Harlem Shake reference is therefore not in reference to the 2013 meme
I dig more the sprite style, thanks mate i'll go at the DS version
There's basically three main versions of the original trilogy. There's the originals on the GBA, with sprites. There's a second version on the DS, which used DS features and added a case to the first game that's pretty good. The iOS/Switch/3DS/PC/whatever version is the DS games but with a filter applied to make the games look hand-drawn instead of pixel art. Other than that, I don't think there's any new retranslations.
Also if someone complains about the Harlem Shake that was a reference to something else entirely than the 201x trend, so they're morons who don't know shit.
has there even been an official GBA translation or it's fanmade?
>has there even been an official GBA translation or it's fanmade?
Yeah, they've all been released officially in English. Roms at all the usual places and all that.

I love how the DS sprites look but going with that version means losing the ability to advance text before it ends which can be a deal breaker.
At the same time PC version (which looks like the switch one on the video below) is just disgusting looking. You lose the iconic pixel art due to the smoothed out edges. I would go with the 3DS version as it looks similiar to the DS one while being able to advance text at your pace.
Not if you are starting from a fresh file. I just opened up Desmume to check it and it is impossible. I would make a webm of me spamming the advance button if I knew how.
I will download a 3ds cia just to check this. Don't move.

The end of the 3DS killed Ace Attorney. Capcom is now forced to up the budget to release the game on contemporary HD/4K consoles and PC. In the past they could get away with something smaller budget. The series is too niche to justify that higher budget, so they have likely been trying to figure out how to bring the series to modern devices. The worst thing they could do is what Level 5 did with Lady Layton on Switch, which is practically identical to the very first DS Layton.
The cases do get better after 5-2 but the removal of investigating is apprent throughout all cases except the DLC case and one segment in the 4th case.
I strongly believe they remove examining mechanics because if you had it in 5-2 the case would have been solved very quickly even for an average IQ player

Not really. Capcom reportedly expected 300k lifetime sales, and it already exceeded that number in less than a year.
How long did it take to reach that amount though? Because GAA did half a million in less than a year.

There's nothing shitty or lazy about RE Engine.
Monster Hunter
still pretty weird the only Ace Attorney games for Switch are remasters.

i think a story of wright tutoring athena would still work if handled properly.
I feel like this is the only good way forward if they insist on wanting to keep Phoenix around and not make a new cast.
>I blame Fujos
Fujos were on the development team for the series, Fujos created the art for the series, Fujos were literally the target audience since day 1, i fail to see how people don't understand they are literally playing a fujobait franchise, and there is nothing wrong with playing one.
>DD
Because that game is such a step up from the literal dumpster fire that is AJ even if it is mediocre game itself. And I blame fujo for its mediocre cases with unfunny humor and moronic plot progression. As soon as they see the cheap emotional manipulation of muh tragic/sad things in muh game they think it's a masterpiece.
DD is a step down in literally every way from the DS games.
Read properly. That post only mentioned DD is better than AJ.
Did I stutter? I said it’s a step down from the DS games, and I meant ALL of them.
> game adds one (1) cool character
Ok. Still not as good as the DS games.
Clumping the OG trilogy and AA4 won't make that dogshit game any better than AA5 dumb b***h. Last (you) from me.
I’m not clumping them together like AJ belongs with the original trilogy, they’re all just better games that came out before DD.
>the game with blackquill in it as a prosecutor is somehow a step down from the game with klavier as a prosecutor
also reading comprehension pal, look it up.
Agreed, I think we need a soft reboot or a new cast altogether.
This. Phoenix/Edgeworth/Apollo's stories are done.
You say it as if Great Ace Attorney wasn't exactly that already
while GAA was something that was created before SoJ, I get what you mean, they already made an attempt with it once and it flopped in japan, only doing well AFTER packaging both games into one more then half a decade later.
In fairness, they released half a game and expected it to fly without releasing the other half
true, I don't think any of us Ganker anons would've done something so moronic, but i could be wrong.
Some actually think AJ is a good game here so yes I expect they can be that moronic.
I had more fun with AJ than DD.
When (you) have a small brain it can be a blessing in disguise.
Everything post AJ is actual shit tho.
Nah, AJ is the lowest. Everything after it is an improvement by default.
It takes having a soul to appreciate AJ
Contrarians don't have soul. They don't even have a functioning brain.
Everything got delayed by at least a year because of the plandemic.
i just want aa4-6 and aai pack on steam
AA7 direct by Takumi?? oh frick please
hoping he ditch every shit in 5,6 and start anew
NANI
>one case
>VR exclusive
>that disparity between the 3D modeled main characters and the 2D witnesses
Still, I wouldn't mind seeing this with a bit more effort put into it, and not as a VR exclusive.
Nothing.
Great series.
AI the somnium files
I kneel btw
troony game.
Clussy.
lack of susato sex scenes.
GAA did.
Uh oh the butthurt roastie is here
All I want from AA7 is being able to move around 3D spaces while investigating
Yeah, when I first played Somnium Files, in the investigation segments all I could think was: This is what AA should be by now
They kept writing themselves into a corner every game. In fact, aside from the logic of the games, the stories were pretty average to shit really. AAInvestigations was the closest it got to good writing and that ended itself with just 2 games.
>lumping the shit-ass mess that was AAI with AAI2
1st game was fricking garbage. They got lucky with the 2nd
All of them suck after the first one besides Trials
Apollo
I'm Fine!
I'm also trans btw!
now this is a real tournabout
Post the image, you know the one.
bad writing, fujos, the inability to develop characters, and incompetence
GAAC was ok but it needed an editor badly, drawn out as frick and had the literal dumbest main character to date
imagine playing as Maya in the original trilogy, just an absolute joke
I feel for the devs because fujos are their primary demographic now, but they did that to themselves and are now hamstrung into writing sexless fujobait not quite homosexuals every game
>fujos are their primary demographic now
>now
Yes, now. As in currently. Just because the one concept artist was a fujo doesn't mean the series had to pander to them perpetually.
I stopped playing when they murdered my husband.
dick gumshoe investigations when
>playing as THE literal dumbass detective
You already have real life for that. Just start your detective business m8
play great ace attorney if you want to be investigating crime scenes as a literal mongoloid
It'd either totally retcon his character or be incredibly frustrating.
imagine the growth arc
Edgeworth is for Franziska von Karma only.
Nothing. I'll keep buying the games as long as they release them. A good turnabout buttblasting some jackass into the next galaxy is always entertaining. They just HAVE to fricking produce them is all.
Anyone relate to this fr?
>plastic love
replace it with kate bush, but also frick you its a good song
Unironically Yakuza 0
someone should add Helltaker and Bowsette in this
based blind moron
then add Helltaker
Don’t know too much about these games
Why is Apollo Justice so hated aside from being pushed?
Change scares boomers.
The steep decline in writing of everything. Serenade. The apologists are all fujos and contrarians that disregard common sense to justify its terrible quality.
The serenade is the one valid complaint and every modern version fixes it so it doesn’t even matter now.
Of course a moronic b***h like you would never see the problem of that entire case itself.
Serenade was filled with so many plot holes it's almost like the writers noticed the trend of the showbiz cases being disliked and decided to intentionally write the worst one possible.
It's a bad game. There is just an undeniable drop in quality after the trilogy. You can play them all and see it for yourself.
its mostly just a very rushed game that isn't even good as a standalone due to the poor individual case quality.
thats not getting into how the game does its best to ignore the previous games, while also trying to cater to older fans with a cynical jaded version of the previous series main character, i'm sure this sounds familiar to you in one way or the other.
I doubt the modern version fixes the shotty writing of the case even if it removes all the flashbacks you have during it.
AA7 final case is in regards to a death at Phoenix and Maya's wedding. It is a former named character beloved by fans.
2023 Summer
No... they can't kill off the Blue Badger, Badgerbros... it's not right...
>Phoenix and Maya's wedding
They could make the best game in the series if they actually went ahead with this. But they just don't have the balls. Cowards
It stopped being funny, AI Somnium got it right.
BRING HER BACK
She wasn't a good character, her entire country is poorly written trash.
Apollo wank
I do not care about this character.
Stop fricking shilling him.
Capcom meddling.
Prehistoric Ace Attorney spinoff when???
Apollo Justice was the beginning of the end.
HD version
Those references are in the DS games too.
Really? Guess I missed them when I first played through
Both those references where in the 2007 release of Trials and Tribulations on the DS. The Harlem Shake reference is therefore not in reference to the 2013 meme
I dig more the sprite style, thanks mate i'll go at the DS version
has there even been an official GBA translation or it's fanmade?
>has there even been an official GBA translation or it's fanmade?
Yeah, they've all been released officially in English. Roms at all the usual places and all that.
I love how the DS sprites look but going with that version means losing the ability to advance text before it ends which can be a deal breaker.
At the same time PC version (which looks like the switch one on the video below) is just disgusting looking. You lose the iconic pixel art due to the smoothed out edges. I would go with the 3DS version as it looks similiar to the DS one while being able to advance text at your pace.
isn't the one you get on PC the same as on the 3DS but upscaled?
You can compare this with the video yourself. The game looks slightly different.
You can only advance text you already seen before, that applies to every version of every game in this series.
Actually not true.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AceAttorney/comments/bch3hm/text_skip_on_the_ace_attorney_trilogy_hd_is_flawed/
>inb4 reddit
>the ability to advance text before it ends
I pirated the DS versions and I could do this idiot.
Not if you are starting from a fresh file. I just opened up Desmume to check it and it is impossible. I would make a webm of me spamming the advance button if I knew how.
Now try doing the exact same thing in any other game, even the HD trilogy.
I will download a 3ds cia just to check this. Don't move.
I've started a new game in Ace Attorney 1 on 3DS an are able to freely skip text just like I said in
.
>this guy makes Ganker shit themselves
Poor guy got sidelined in his own game.
That's not what being sidelined means. He was the blandest lawcuck in his debut game.
>buzzword
Maya and Phoenix not boning.
Does DD get any better? I'm on 5-2. I can't fricking believe they removed examining
Last two cases are kinda hype and the DLC case is fantastic.
5-2 is possibly the lowest point of DD. It's the worst case of that game for me.
I liked case 4 very much, and case 5 was good until the end where it just kinda turns into a wet fart.
The cases do get better after 5-2 but the removal of investigating is apprent throughout all cases except the DLC case and one segment in the 4th case.
I strongly believe they remove examining mechanics because if you had it in 5-2 the case would have been solved very quickly even for an average IQ player
It doesn't. 5-3 is awful and the last case is more moronic more you think about it
I thought 5-3 was pretty good
5-3 is honestly pretty fun unless you can't into anime school stuff.
I think they overdid it with the moronic fake ass tomboy. No offense but I hate her for some reason when normally I like the tomboys and genki girls.
Yeah, her quirk where she spelled stuff out like T-H-I-S was annoying
She was a bit over the top, I agree.
F-A-G-G-O-T-S
>liking a girl looking like a literal dude
>liking a girl being a genuine insufferable moron
I mean I know homosexuals have literal shit taste but they aren't being this denial lmao
>case full of waifus
>best character is the dude
many such cases
Too many sequels.
Kamiya was right.
More would be gained from moving on from franchises like Ace Attorney. That could be said of Capcom as a whole.
Like many fandoms, shippers.
Killed? GAA is amazing, all they gotta do is make GAA3, frick AA7
