there were a few rough points in the game. First time fighting mac/crocco could be pretty rough. Johnny and Yardrovich could be pretty problematic on a first play through because you just did not prepare for or expect the 1/1, disable, or aoe attacks. Axems were another difficulty point because youve never fought that many strong enemies at once before. Smithy I didnt really ever find particularly hard, just a really long fight. The main thing that fricks people up with that fight is not being aware of or expecting the 1hit kill moves in phase 2. If you went in without peach or only a handful of pickmeups you could just get whittled down really quickly.
If you give peach the lazy shell and the rarescarf though its actually impossible to lose.
its the tradeoff for the armor and peach is the only one it makes sense for. In some ways i think it was the devs way of putting in a god mode. Granted i never really played around too much with stat stuff when i was younger, but i dont remember any combination of anything making peach do big dick damage ever.

Apparently there’s some order to the bonuses you get from level ups that is consistent for every character and do you just do whatever you will get a bonus for that level. Not sure if it still works this way in remake
It's the same way but I still do magic on everyone except Bowser every time (except one boosted HP level on Peach early) because even a weaker level up in Magic is still better than a boosted level in anything else.

Bowser will end up with slightly more physical defense by the end, but both him and Geno have higher physical defense than the other three characters. Geno is the better choice due to his magic skills but the game is easy enough to where you could still use Bowser.

Bowser has really good stats when he joins, but meh growths, and terrible equipment so he falls off over the course of the game. His final armor only provides like 9 defense over work pants. His new final weapon had to add 27 attack over his old one just to catch up to Mario/Geno/Peach, while Geno's new weapon only adds 5 to give you an indication of how poorly Bowser used to fair.
I still used Geno and Bowser for most of the game, but Mallow probably would've been straight up better for regular enemies, and the moment Peach gets the frying pan Bowser loses on single target too.
Geno and Peach are still broken as shit. But Mallow and Bowser do feel better. I think more enemies are weak to their spells and being that you can switch them in during battle they aren't permanent bench warmers anymore. (They have the best triple move too.)

I have SMRPG on my actual SNES and I've wanted both Geno and Mallow in Smash for a long time
So I see someone saw Doobus Foobus or whatever the fricks tweet. Geno was the punching bag after Ultimate just like Ridley before him. You all were so sure Geno was an easy target to hate on and troll with when suddenly the Mario RPG remaster came out of nowhere and fricked it all up. Considering that when you unlock the move you’re lucky to hit over 100 damage in a single attack, it’s really cool that a character could do something that strong.

Geno is hypercompetent, knows everything and is from space and has a badass cape, a gun for an arm, and can shoot lasers and do 9999 damage at level 11.

Back in the day if you were playing casually Mallow was not only not very appealing at all but get's benched when Bowser and Peach show up.
