i always liked it because if you do a hop at the exact right time when going down the first big hill, you'll fly through the air for a bit.
only moronic kids and fat people did that
true chads pulled the hop off angled to the left perfectly to fly over to the other side and skip half the lap.
Why then are all obsessive speedrunners today fat and moronic kids grown up?
The best Mario Kart 64 speedrunner on earth is a skinny tall dude with a software engineering job.
Basically everyone is fat today.
yeeeeeeeeeeeee
it's funny how it feels perfect in F-Zero X
All of Mario Kart 64 is a slog.
This. Most of the tracks should've been shortened.
Mario/Luigi/Royal circuits are still the best MK tracks ever
Are you guys too stupid to drift boost or something?
I prefer the longer tracks and I wish they wouldn’t have made them shorter in later games where every race is over in less than 2 minutes. The longer tracks really make each race feel like an event.
Also, 64’s Rainbow Road is not only the best track in the game, but one of the best in the entire series.
Being longer is the appeal, specially when its the final race after playing the other ones with people.
allergic to sovl much? the track is about the atmosphere and being a fitting end track
Rainbow road is great
I don't mean to defend bad design, but I think Rainbow Road is meant to be a massive pain in the ass. It's the final track. Plus MK 64 has much worse tracks. The snow one is absolutely fricking egregious. Nintendo clearly spent one weekend on that piece of shit.
That snow level and those giant penguins can get fricked. Yoshi valley a complete fricking shitfest as well with the different paths and many pitfalls.
Skill issue.
They can definitely frick you up, but only rarely if you actually know how to play. Beginners get btfo by them.
the yoshi stage is the best, what is wrong with you anon?
The worst thing is they put the guard rail on.
This track is so fun, you gotta play the long game, or risk the jump of faith. OP is a homosexual as per usual.
I'm getting an N64 on wednesday and playing mario kart 64 for the first time bros
what am I in for?
The last Mario Kart that can rightfully be called great.
It was great at the time because of the novelty of 3d. It really isn't: all the characters are sprites and. Best tracks are Wario Stadium and Bowser's Castle. 4 player multiplayer sucks because they have to switch off the music as a compromise and all you hear is 4 buzzing karts. It's fun, but I like Double Dash and the DS one better.
>all the characters are sprites
How is this a bad thing?
Bowser's Castle sucks
>they have to switch off the music as a compromise
What? Is that some sort of bizarre technical limitation?
I suspect it was. There's probably less detail on the tracks in 4-player mode as well. Diddy Kong Racing and Snowboard Kids managed to keep the music on during 4 player mode, so Nintendo sucks at programming for their own console, basically.
Pretty sure DKR does the opposite and disables sound for other players in favor of keeping the music
Yes, unlike every other console before and since the N64 doesn't actually have dedicated sound hardware, so turning off the music leaves more CPU for game logic.
Disappointment, unless you're playing with friends.
One of the last mario kart games, they add motorcycles later. Shit
AI will cheat and always be on your ass regardless what you throw at them, and if you fall behind too much for some reason it becomes impossible to recover for that race.
I love Mario Kart 64 but understand that this is pure nostalgia on my part, going back to it won't be that great
Rubberbanding sucks. Most satisfying thing was using a lightning powerrub or some red shells on your direct opponent right before the big jump in Wario stadium. They'd falll in it and it would put them half a lap behind and lose them some points if you could do it in the final lap and finish quickly.
Why not just stick to time trials and multiplayer then? GP circuits are the least interesting part of the game.
This is definitely the best stage in the game, the music is killer too.
All they had to do was to remove the rail on a few parts for a bit of challenge.
Driving along this long ass completely flat track without any danger aside the occasional chain chomp is a bit unenthusing compared to other tracks. Some parts where you can fall down would have helped with this
I'LL MISS YOU AGAAAAAAAAIIIINNN UNCLEEEE3
More time to enjoy the beautiful visuals and most perfect song
